  1. I agree that references to aids and Sandusky go too far, but when you make $4.75M and pitch the way he has, there's nothing wrong with letting the fans vent their frustration with some heckling. That goes with the territory of being a big-leaguer.
  2. Dental work without anesthetic.
  3. Josh Willingham in the post-game interview: "We didn't get the best out of Blackie; he's better than that." Well, half right.
  4. Look out, folks! We're only 1-1/2 back of Kansas City.
  5. Too bad you can't name a group of people to be our all-star representative - if anybody has earned it this year, it's the bullpen as a group.
  6. So if I had told you, before the series started, that in the first two games the Twins starter would be chased early, and the Twins would win both games - would you have believed me?
  7. C'mon, we've heard that before. Gardy likes having one person in the job, whether he admits it or not. Personally, I might have leaned toward Burton - Perkins has had a tendency to "make things interesting" this year.
  8. Interesting. I admit I hadn't been thinking about him, but looking at his numbers they're pretty good. Low opponent avg, decent GO/AO ratio. At this point, why not? He last pitched yesterday, and he looks to be stretched out from his injury - he could be ready for Sunday.
  9. So Blackburn's next start [insert laugh here] would normally be on Sunday, just before the all-star break. Does he make it? Will Walters be ready in time (he pitched 4 innings in Rochester on Sunday)?
  10. It looked like the fielder had a chance to catch it, so he had to hover near second until it dropped.
  11. Bases loaded, no one out, and they get one run. **sigh**
  12. He did earlier in the game, but I think they talked to him in the dugout about it afterward.
  13. He can't. Willingham has to hit one first, then it's Plouffe's turn again.
  14. So Bert Blyleven is not doing the telecasts for the next couple of weeks. They say it is because of duties connected with the hall of fame induction this year. I have another theory. Perhaps the Twins have talked him out of retirement and he's getting ready to join the rotation.
  15. Agreed he's pretty much useless right now, but who do we have to replace him? Do we leave Duensing in the rotation permanently? The only reason he's still pitching now is that there aren't many alternatives.
  16. Watching Blackburn pitch almost makes me wish we had Marquis back.
  17. I wonder how long they leave Blackburn out there. Gardy's gotta be worried about depleting the bullpen, especially with Duensing pitching tomorrow. He might let Blackie take one for the team and pitch a couple more, even if he gets hit hard - kind of a sacrificial goat.
  18. 1. Chicago White Sox, with a 85-77 record. 2. Twins finish 5th, at 73-89, after a July tease followed by an August swoon. 3. This is a tough one: the only one I'm confident about is Capps. Possibly also Liriano or Pavano (if he's healthy), but not both. 4. In a rematch of last year, Texas will beat St. Louis, who will cap a late run by peaking at just the right time.
  19. He had 3 good innings yesterday - 1,2,4. The 3rd inning, though, was the same as the 5th - throwing scared to the top of the order. He managed to get out of it with only a run scored in the 3rd, but it was still ugly to watch. The 5th it finally bit him. He was not going to win the game - he was on the verge of losing it, and I'm glad they pulled him when they did. I think this may be a case of trying to bridge the gap between Triple-A and MLB. You're right, he has nothing left to prove in Triple-A. At the same time, he has shown that he is not quite ready for MLB. I guess the question is where best to continue to prepare or improve. In MLB, like Dozier, or in Rochester, where there isn't quite so much scrutiny and he can concentrate more on pitch location. From what I hear he is an intelligent young man and understands the theory and art of pitching (mixing up his pitches, setting up batters, finding their weak spots, etc). He just may need a touch more work on the mechanics.
  20. Hendriks has to stop being afraid of letting the ball get hit - I noticed last night when he faced the front part of the lineup, especially the 2nd & 3rd time through, he was afraid to put it into the strike zone. Problem is, if you throw it where the batter can't reach it, it's a ball. In AAA maybe the batters will chase those pitches, but not in MLB. He is still young and has decent upside. He'll never be the starter on opening day, but he can develop into a back-of-the-rotation guy.
  21. As per Twins website, Cole DeVries has been recalled from Rochester and Liam Hendriks has been optioned back to Triple-A. As if it makes any difference.
  22. We can schedule it for tomorrow night - have barbecues all across America, with hot dogs and apple pie.
  23. I love it when we chase the starter after only 4 innings!
  24. Well, that could have been ugly. One run is the least he could expect to get away with. Hendriks has pitched 2 good innings, but this last one made me cringe.
