  1. How many separate personas are allowed on TD/URL?
  2. I'm not setting any expectations, I just want to find better answers in the pen than the current status quo, ASAP.
  3. Or how about if instead of comparing him to others specifically, consider the point I actually made- adding him to the roster would be a net upgrade when considering all of the other options.
  4. When arguably your 2nd best pitcher has only been allowed to come into 3 low leverage situations? That question isn't too tough to answer- that's Graham-like limbo.
  5. Yep. I think that describes virtually every Twins fan. And he's not in on this decision on the handling of the rotation alone. Just because no one expects perfection from the manager, doesn't mean that decisions made should be immune from scrutiny. FWIW, I tracked May's pitches from yesterday, he threw 19 strikes in 24 pitches. Of 14 FBs, 2 pitches were at 96 MPH, 10 were at 94-95 and 2 more at 93 (his season average on his FB is 92.3). The predicted uptick has occrred. In his 3 relief appearances, with all of the accepted acknowledgements of minimal data from which to draw from, he's forcing a lot of soft contact (67% increase), LD% is a paltry 6.5%, and his pull rate has dropped from 42% to 25%. To be sure, he isn't striking alot of guys out yet, but he hasn't walked anyone either. His strike rate is 75%, vs. 65% as a starter. He's clearly a work in progress out of the pen, but all signs are that it could work. Particularly impressive was his effort on Friday night, bearing down and getting 3 pop-ups (including two vs. the Martinez's) after giving up consecutive hits- all of his FBs that night were 94-95.
  6. Except of the reason I posted it. His bat, particularly from the left side where the Twins are sorely lacking, can potentially be of significant help in the second half. And he's clearly mashing at AAA in the same way he did the previous two years, and followed that up after he was called up. And Joe Mauer hasn't been a catcher for a couple years now, and is still near the bottom of all 1st baseman in offensive production.
  7. I'd prefer either one to his current limbo role.
  8. Yes, it's just 65 PAs for Arcia, but not completely irrelevant like Pelf. More curious numbers, the first two of which on this list have made many Twins fans downright giddy, of late. MN Twins 2015 OPS rates: 1) Mauer .723 2) Hicks .720 3) Arcia .718
  9. There's this: Twins' prospect Max Kepler goes on disabled list And this: Sadly, injuries have been one of the main defining points of Kepler's career. Hopefully, this is the last one and he can pick up right where he left off. .
  10. Just a rather curious and confounding tidbit: MN Twins leaders in OBP 1) Arcia .338 2) Mauer .336 3) Hicks .333 4) Nunez .330 5) Dozier .328 6) Plouffe .320 7) Hunter .312 8) Rosaio .310
  11. And Terry Ryan gladly signed off on the high-bid contract offer to get him here. The Morneau-Mauer stuff from the past evidently carried ZERO weight. in the decision to bring him back. I'm also thinking there's a good chance they ran it past Mauer, and he signed off on it, as well.
  12. That's the best example on TD of a spell-check nightmare I've ever seen in real time.
  13. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that there is virtually zero chance that Plouffe is traded in the middle of a tight pennant race: 1) Too disruptive to the team, both on the field and in the clubhouse 2) Too unlikely to get enough in return on trade 3) Too unlikely that highly slump-prone Arcia can be relied on for consistent production OTOH, Sano to OF on a part-time basis is a distinct possibility.
  14. http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2013/06/7179278.jpg Miguel Sano says: "Huh?"
  15. Yep. The wild card format is a crazy gimmick, heavily reliant on luck and a shut down ace- just to get to the next round where the odds are stacked against you, and now you've used up nope of your best pitcher's starts just to get to that round. The Twins are now in a position to make a decent and respectable run at the whole thing, why not maximize the chances of getting there?
  16. 1st or 2nd best records at the moment are nice, but pretty meaningless in the big picture. Come late Septemer in a close playoff race, if the Twins either barely miss the playoffs, barely miss the AL Central title, or- barely miss gaining home advantage by one, or a few games... I have a feeling certain people won't be doing much whooping, or mocking others who understand the reasons for maximizing the use of the talent at hand... they'll be crying , gnashing their teeth, and pointing fickle fingers of blame. Kind of surprising how forgetful people are of how important home field advantage was to the Twins in their World Series runs.
  17. I trust that this was not damning with faint praise. Boyer shouldn't be the No. 1, 2 or 3 late-inning option on a contending team- strictly a bridge guy to the 8th inning RP. The Twins still need to find a top set-up guy if they want to stay serious about their post-season possibilities.
  18. Except how would they have known whether or not their hand would, or would not, be forced? Selective recall- and- FAIL at attempted mockery. You seem to feel that good fortune and luck are you all you need to rely on over 162 games. Any way you try to slice or minimize it, this was poor contingency planning. (And there were two losses this week that failed to enter into your recall short-term-memory banks- where May could have come in and made a difference in potentially turning those losses into wins- and against the top 2 division rivals).
  19. I don't think anyone expects May to be "immediately ready to throw in 15 pitches" or "on back-to-back days." But having known of just the current set of circumstances in place as being a strong probability for more than 3 months now.... then arguably your 2nd best overall pitcher needed to be physically and mentally prepared to throw up to 3 times per week (depending on the amount of innings per game) in late-inning tie games.... this was not an unreasonable expectation.
  20. Nice call, you've nailed the Twins strategic sweet spot. Nice call on the edit, too. Hunter is still a critical component in this pennant run. Great call, again. I'd completely forgotten about that option. Huge benefit, especially if some of Dozier's "off days" could keep his bat in the lineup @ DH, and yet another way to get Arcia a couple more starts. I wonder if Rosario has been taking regular infield gb's and reps?
  21. No need for snark. And there's no need for Buxton to use AAA, except for his rehab ABs. (News flash---- The pitching in fact, isn't really tougher at AAA vs. AA, give a healthy Buxton a week or two's worth or so of the typical AAA journeyman junkballers and their heavy doses of offspeed stuff... and then get your game-changing defender and speed merchant, and your most athletic player back up to help the Twins in the midst of trying to win a pennant.) I love what Sano's doing since his call-up, but Buxton would have fared better than his first frustrating results had he hit against the same caliber of pitcher that Sano has faced thus far.

    Hicks

Whoa.... Hold on there. How soon we forget the disaster-zone that was Hicks first experience at the top of the order. While I agree that Hicks has made a quantum leap in his development, he is easily still short two quantums before anyone should seriously consider returning Hicks to a leadoff role. Brock, you've been the biggest proponent of not messing with guys who have established themselves into a comfortably productive niche. That's where Hicks is currently residing, moving him to the top of the order prematurely might disrupt that delicate balance. The top of the order is unconventional, but it's working. If anything, Mauer, with the highest OBP, is also the best at working the count, and would benefit by flipping the two, and having Dozier hitting right behind Mauer in the order- just move those two up in your order and leave Hicks down in the lineup for now. I do agree on Arcia though, another LH power bat is sorely needed, and inserting his bat the middle of the order, particularly against RHSP, is just the ticket to generate some more offense, with a very flinty, mostly L/R/L/R configuration from 1-7 (w/ Arcia playing some in LF, RF and DH): 1) Mauer 2) Dozier 3) Sano 4) Arcia/Plouffe 5) Plouffe/Hunter/Arcia 6) Rosario/Arcia/Hunter 7) Hicks
  23. All fine and good... Except for the fact that Molitor revealed this bit of internal turmoil, or uncertainty, that you have casually cast aside: I prefer him in the rotation too, but at the moment, he's a man waiting for someone to slip on a banana peel- or get a ticket out of town, and woefully underutilized in this curious process.
