  1. If Molitor had just done this to Vargas once and didn't make the same mistake twice, that would be one thing, but he has never done anything but ultimately hit the Destruct button on Vargas, even twice when he was in the midst of just about being the Twins' hottest hitter. And also, twice now he's been called up in September, seemingly the time when guys like Vargas are brought up to make their case for the following season and Molitor has barely barely let Vargas sniff the lineup- only to be replaced, as in each other demotion, by the same tired old options.
  2. AAAA glory has truly been revealed.
  3. Exactly what I thought.... with a new Ivy League brained sheriff in town quite soon, plus hopefully a new big Ivy League baseball brain serving as his boss as POBO, if the 2017 rotation doesn't look drastically different than 2016... then the Twins Search Committee probably failed miserably in their "Search" May I politely suggest that rather than "penciling in" a 2017 rotation at this point, the new management instead use a big, bold ink pen and completely blot out a bunch of these guys' names off the (glaring lack of) SP depth chart for good?
  4. Rarely have I seen such gut-shot, succinct brevity... well-played, Sir, but then, Kennys is your guy and most certainly not Paulie's guy.
  5. Park actually makes $2.75M in 2017, moving up to $3M in both 2018 and 2019. At this point, the Twins seem to be on the hook for all three years- I mean, how many teams would be willing to take on 3 years worth of potential liability for a 30+ year old minor league first baseman at the price?
  6. Anyone got the magic number on us "clinching" #1 (#30) over (under) the Braves?
  7. It is kind of mind-boggling that the only reason Vargas is getting any reps is because Plouffe, Sano, Park and Mauer are unavailable and in effect Vargas is currently sharing the 1st base duties tonight, just barely beating out James Beresford.
  8. I'm torn on this possibility. I've always hoped for the second coming of Papi from his days in Beloit- heck Papi is Kennys' idol and mentor, but it would sure hurt if he ends up blossoming for another club, ala Ortiz. Going through that mental ordeal over the last 15 years was enough.
  9. In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure Vargas knows he's a goner anyways...
  10. Perhaps Vargas knows something about a pending personnel move in the works and is getting an early start on making nice with the Latin superstar? (FWIW- I think I read that Cabrera, Ortiz and Vargas all have the same agent.)
  11. Yeah, the straw-grasping and ill-placed ray of hope love for obvious journeymen by our TV duo has reached loopy proportions here in September.
  12. Vargas was actually very good in May, 2015- he was by far the best Twins hitter for that month even as he was summarily, and curiously, demoted. He appeared to have made the necessary adjustments from his slow start in April, but it was pretty obvious that Molitor never wanted him in the first place, and wanted him out no matter what. Many of us said Park was a waste of money at the time of the signing, especially when those few available FA dollars needed to be directed towards actual, current, gaping, yawning needs elsewhere. And especially after the GM identified those needs as a top priority and then did just the opposite by signing yet another unproven, aging overseas player base on who knows whose say-so... and that needless addition had to be as yet another PR sop- signing a slugger who had played all of his career in bandbox stadiums against mostly suspect and/or AA level pitching. The Park signing really helped to seal Ryan's ultimate downfall.
  13. The Cubs bench and expanded roster is chock full of decent-to-very good MLB potential... they have an embarrassment of depth riches. Gotta go with Cubs wins over Twins losses (only the White Sox series to close the season gives the Twins much hope of a couple of wins).
  14. Which was exactly the point of the OP....
  15. Motto? Whose motto? Certainly not so much under the Twins under the expiring regime. As far as Vargas' value, it's been gradually dissipating, by design, for a couple years already. Signing Park in the offseason told every other team in the league that the Twins held Vargas in little, if any, regard.
  16. Well stated. For years during the transition to 1st base, there was hope that Mauer could aspire to a poor man's (or perhaps a bit better than that) Mark Grace level of production. Sadly, we didn't know that we would only for the most part get the Diamondbacks version of Grace before Grace finally called it a career.
  17. More misconception mania....? Has anyone said that WAR is gospel?- I even alluded to that with my comment about what is WAR good for, perhaps you missed that? Since Schmidt and his minions hang around Twins' management on a daily basis, isn't it likely that what they think of Vargas, and combining those inside sources public and private comments with how he's been used has likely sunken through to just about anybody who reports on the Twins on a daily basis? Incidentally, I have never advocated Vargas being moved, my drum beating is in noting quantifiable information about relative value, and the fact of how out of favor Vargas has been considered by Twins management for the last 2 years (demoted twice and benched, even when he was producing at a rate superior to the alternatives on the Twins' roster). In point of fact, I have been pointing out that the Twins pulled the plug on Vargas in May of 2015.
  18. Despite extremely limited playing time, Kennys Vargas has stealthily moved up the Twins position player fWAR rankings. After Sunday, he has just moved ever-so-slightly ahead of Joe Mauer, (despite Kennys only playing in 35 games and Mauer with 133 games played) and he also is within 1/10th of a point of the Twins #2 fWar ranking held by Miguel Sano- 1.2 vs 1.1. WAR. What is it good for? Well, Joe Schmidt had this comment in commentary response to Vargas' towering home run vs the Mets on Sunday..... "Well, perhaps he will make a nice trade chip in the offseason..." IOW-> "Hasta la vista, Vargy."
  19. Umpire Crew Chief Brian Gorman must bear some of the blame here- this crew collectively had more than it's fair share of Bucknor/West WTF moments this weekend.
  20. Wow, three minutes after I posted and that's the best you could come up with? I was expecting something more along the lines of Jurassic Park.
  21. By contrast, it took current management six years just to figure out that he was primarily a LOOGY-oriented RP, not an SP.
  22. The pending change in leadership might give Vargas a new lease on life as a Twin... but then if he stays, new management has to figure out what to do with Park...
  23. I believe he just passed Mauer in season WAR...
  24. And there is nothing to stop said established top tier managers whose contracts are expiring from becoming the next Twins manager- if the new POBO/GM and the contract offer are a satisfactory alternative.
