  1. So you're arguing the opposite?- that Hermann is "solidly" ready to contribute at the major league level? If true, please cite your evidence that this is, in fact the case.
  2. "Solid"? I gotta think the Twins are banking on Herrmann to have a breakthrough season, get plenty of AAA experience, and in the process, look less lost than he did last September and this spring before they move him up again. He certainly won't make any improvements rotting on the bench at the major league level.
  3. How about Morneau (back) and Deduno? And what about the major Pelfrey setback today? Methinks it's soon time to start a pool on when Pelf goes on the Shelf...what say you?
  4. Agreed. Let's get a couple.
  5. Even given the murky nature of WAR for catchers, Butera had a terrible CS rate (23%), virtually the same as Doumit's (21%), but significantly better than Mauer's (14%). In passed balls, Butera had 4 in 292 innings, Doumit 2 in 492 and Mauer 1 in 628. Time for the mythologists to begin the spinning of Butera's alleged defensive prowess, I can't see how WAR gives Butera the benefit of the doubt, at least for 2012, anyway.
  6. Sadly, if there is some truth to the point that past is only prologue, Drew will be back to accumulating days for his major league pension very soon, indeed- probably the first extra inning game without Gardy's security blanket will spur the call to Roc.
  7. I prefer the condensed version.
  8. (In a loud internet-board voice): "Paging ClearBlueSky....!"
  9. Haven't seen the metrics, but it appeared that Revere got good coaching and made adjustments to improve his OF efficiency to offset some of his arm-weakness deficiencies, he actually had a few OF assists, as well.
  10. Not to resume rubbing salt in old wounds from past battles, but you called for my banning (and other colorful adjectives, as well), when I pointed out this very thing, ie, the Twins extreme lack of quality depth at the position and seeming indifference at improving the situation at a level at least one step above the likes of Eric Fryer. To reiterate, Mauer is going to need a new position at some point and Doumit won't be around much longer, they have to do something better than the current, status quo (lack of) depth chart.
  11. Straw men don't get built on their own accord...
  12. Absolutely. As I've stated before, I'd even give Parmelee a chance at #2 if Gardy is so deadset against moving up Mauer, although I noticed today that Mauer has been moved up to #2 and Dozier moved down to #8, so maybe there is hope that Gardy is finally getting it?
  13. The 2-hole has never produced a .350 OBP hitting rate in the Gardy era. The closest was in 2006, with an OBP of .349, which happened to be career years for LNP and Castillo. Regarding the AL East's favorite stat in the 2-hole, OPS- that year was also the highest for the Twins for OPS in the 2-hole- a lowly .726. Only 2 other times in 11 years was the OPS greater than .700 (07 & 08). Besides that OBP out-year of 2006, the Twins #2-hole OBP has never been above .326 and (maybe not so?) incredibly, 4 times in 11 years the OBP was actually below .300.
  14. Absolutely this. I'll believe that the Twins will draft a projected-over-slot SP when I see it.
  15. The only surprise here was that given for how long the Twins questionably remained enamored with Burnett and his failures to raise his floor, that they finally figured it out and designated him to walk the DFA plank. While there might be fears of another Breslau or Balfour in this move for some (not me), it's the right move for the Twins to finally decide to start cutting bait with the players, like in this case, that aren't progressing and merely taking up valuable roster space.
  16. Certainly not in the AL East, where the "unwritten rule" is now that the #2 guy should NOT bunt and sacrifice. For that matter, the AL has only a few disciples left who join Gardy in their neanderthal-ic thinking about the relative value of wasting multiple valuable "outs" at the top of the order each game by placing clearly inferior hitters who, although they might demonstrate the ability to "battle their tails off" and "keep getting after it", should clearly be at the bottom of the order.
  17. 2 years with a team option (especially instead of Correia) would have been just about the right way to go. Pelfrey's first year performance coming out of TJ has to be the biggest question mark of the Rotation. Usually the 2nd year back is the good one.
  18. Oh really? Mets aim for Shaun Marcum to pitch 6th game of season | Boston Herald Reciting statistics rather than just making stuff up out of whole cloth usually gives one a better chance of being right. No one's arguing that all 4 players don't involve a set of risks, of course we don't know for sure how this plays out. But the upside in taking Marcum and McCarthy over who the Twins signed instead is pretty obvious to (almost) everyone.
  19. World? Color? Sky?
  20. There were 53 FA Starting Pitchers in the offseason that signed contracts. Of them 40 signed one-year deals 8 signed two-year deals 2 signed three-year deals That's 50 of 53 Only 3 of 53 Starting Pitcher Free Agents signed "anchors down the line".
  21. Huh? Marcum Average WAR/yr last 3 years: 2.63 Dollars committed: $4M/1yr McCarthy Average WAR/yr last 3 years: 3.15 Dollars committed: $15.5M/2yrs Combined projected WAR/yr 5.78 Total cost layout: $19.5M Correia Average WAR/yr last 3 years: 0.1 Dollars committed: $10M/2yrs Pelfrey Average WAR/yr last 3 years: 1.23 Dollars committed: $4M/1yr Combined projected WAR/yr last 3 years: 1.24 Dollars committed: $14M This is $5.5M more, picking up 4.5 wins, and actually, it's amortized over 2 years, it means only $2.75M more per year in payroll cost, leaving $17.25M dollars of the mythical $20M to upgrade a further 5-10 wins that would put the Twins in serious contention.
  22. The first time Wally Pipp sat was innocuous enough, but doubtful that Parm is Iron Horse 2.
