  1. But my wish list for Bourn formed in December, waaay before he signed in mid-February. Remember when poor Bourn and Lohse were Borastically-pitiful-orphans-in-the-storm? Good times. Would Boras have taken a one-year $14-15M deal earlier during the FA poker game? He's done it in the past. As previously noted (frequently), I'm a big fan of signing actual talent in FA, short-term- solves short-term problems and gives you more quality options.
  2. Do you think Kemp's near-beaning was intentional?
  3. A lot of the challenges were self-imposed. I haven't seen Heyward bat this year, but I don't see how it's possible that he has worse at bats than Aaron has suffered through thus far. I know it's puzzling to us at the level of ineptitude exhibited, but the Twins organization has plenty of experience with Hicks and helping his demonstrated slow adjustment to each incremental increase in level of play- they'll likely do with him what's worked with him in the past. We are in general agreement about the situation, I just disagree about the Twins being "ready to punt" the season away, the offseason proved they already punted on 2nd down.
  4. I know it's just me, but if you're going to rest someone on the lefty-lefty matchup tonight, I'd vote to keep your hottest hitter on the field, Parmelee, starting at First (.412 in his last 7 games), who has hit .333 versus lefties so far in 2013, and give Morneau the break- he's 0 for 8 against lefties and batting just over .200 over the last 7 days.
  5. Roofs are great if you like playing in mausoleums like Milwaukee. I'll go with a combination of $$$ and aesthetics.
  6. Uhh, I already stated that the Twins should have pursued Bourn on a one-year deal. Bargain bin options with at least some MLB experience were plentiful, as well. Andres Torres and Nyjer Morgan would have been better than adequate placeholder options should Plan A have to be temporarily shelved (as now appears apparent). Pods is still waiting for a call and would likely play for the veteran minimum. It's not that difficult...really...
  7. Boggs is most certainly not better than Borbon. He can't play CF, he's 3 years older than Borbon, the Rangers had both Boggs and Borbon at the same time, Borbon was starting, Boggs wasn't, and then they got rid of Boggs- this was 3 years ago! and he's had all of 22 PAs since then. Borbon's been slowed by ankle surgery since 2011, but the reports in Texas are that he can still play- and the Rangers stuck with him until now, when they ran into a numbers game with 2 better options in CF and a pitcher they needed to activate.
  8. Christy- just to reiterate and to be fair to you as I don't think you were around at the time, we had lengthy debates on TD in the offseason after the big trades were made, and what a devastating impact they would have on the top of the order, no heirs apparent, whether or not they would move Mauer up, and who could possibly lead off for this team and if/who the Twins should acquire who could lead off ( FYI- I suggested signing and later trading Bourn at the deadline or keep him for a year and regain the lost pick after the presumed-declined QO), should Hicks not be ready. So your second paragraph is way off the mark here.
  9. I don't pick easy targets, just obvious ones, which on this team are frequently low-hanging fruit. Plenty of fallback veteran options were available (most weren't great, but better than the current situation- which soon may prove to be untenable).
  10. Emphasis on the word "was". No one is complaining about the deal for Revere- I'm certanly not advocating that it was a mistake. The mistake lies in the lack of a legit Plan B. Hicks's history strongly suggested that he would initially struggle on his adjustment going to the next level. Expecting him to be your starting CF jumping from AA is one thing. Expecting him to be THE leadoff man- with no viable alternatives should he falter- is completely on Ryan. Mastro is what he is, a 4th OF. And nothing in Benson's recent health and performance history suggested that he should have been seriously considered ready to be a viable third option.
  11. So, mark you down as one of the antagonized homers, then?
  12. Yup, to all of the above. I like him too. And maybe not all for naught, if the Twins also claim Borbon then there is a chance to work out a deal, right?
  13. Winning? How about just surviving with a workable Plan B? Hurting Hick's confidence? The .057 BA and 43% K-rate probably have sunk that ship already. I don't think anyone's given up yet, just that the "lost boy" is in desperate need of a change in his current situation- bottom of the order or a short-term trip to Rochester.
  14. 1) As usual, with this operation, no Plan B is ever conceived necessary. 2) They could get an early jump on "sell mode" and move the usual suspects for prospects. Butera and Swarzak might even net you a C+ prospect to the right team in need on trade waivers. Beyond that, Ramirez, Thielbar, Robertson and Wood would seem the most likely candidates.
  15. Not to worry....until the FO starts sandwiching the adjectives "bilateral" & "weakness" around his eyesight as excuses concerning his recent inability to locate the baseball at the plate- and behind it. Seriously though, what with Puckett's early onset glaucoma seemingly coming out of nowhere... I hope the Twins take the proper precautions for their players' vision health.
  16. If you mean: "Has his manager physically written his name there in the lineup?" Then, yes....
  17. His physical "bobbing and weaving" during the TV interview was definitely "erratic", too. I don't know about Gardy having a death wish, but the ultimate kiss of death for Hicks? When referring to him, Gardy didn't even call him "Hicksie".
  18. The game had all the feel of the Old Met back in the 70s on cold September weeknights, when each fan had his own personal Grain Belt vendor. One difference, the cameraman- who seemed to revel in endless shots of the vast sea of empty seats at Kaufman- will never do the same if/when it happens at Target Field.
  19. Actually, it has everything to do with this thread. If this is all it takes for you to feel "antagonized", welcome to Twins Daily, home of a solid minority of easily-offended homer sensibilities.
  20. The Clete Thomas renaissance bandwagon- coming soon- to a stadium near you!
  21. Anyone who put up with the performance in KC is probably entitled...
  22. Somebody who clearly knows his way from the descent to "petty bickering"
  23. A, B, C, 4??? I'd like to add (E) or (5). [Take your pick.] If anyone saved the Gardy postgame interview last night, check it out! It appears that not only is Gardy "napping in the dugout", he also might be nipping in the dugout. First off, it was obvious that DicknBert never got the memo about the "Taking Hicks to the Woodshed for not gettin' after it the Twins Way" meme. Secondly, while he spoke with a clear voice, even if the Hicks thing seemingly came out of Left Field, what was discomfiting and disturbing was Ron's incessant back-and-forth swaying throughout the interview. I know you have to find ways to stay warm on a raw night with about 800 rowdy and drunken fans in attendance, but still....
  24. I concur, and understand what the Twins are trying to accomplish. It's just too much based more on wishes and hope than on rational analysis. It seems to come down to 3 projected UTIL INF on a long-term MLB tryout for one roster spot (assuming Rosario and Santana wind up being deemed the starters at some point in 2014 and/or 15). Since Keppinger was available for just a small premium (per annum) over what the Twins are paying Carroll this year, it seems that there could have been a better, more team-competive and more cost-effective way to begin re-tooling for 2015. I've never been sold on Florimon.... and Dozier has all of a half-year of success at AA as his ONLY supposed "certified-major-league-ready" resume-imprimatur to being the starting Second Basemen. How much more competitive would the team be with Carroll, Keppinger and Escobar manning the middle infield, with Dozier and Florimon honing their games... working on their weaknesses...building their confidence... and waiting in the wings while doing full-time duty at Rochester? Certainly, the 2 veterans could have been traded before the deadline with promotions (if deserved) to follow.
  25. Why do I feel a Clete Thomas renaissance in the making? Gardy was not happy with the Hicks duck walk into 2B in the 7th. Rookies tend to not like Gardy's doghouse.
