  1. And you didn't mention a very significant factor. Virtually unlimited ceiling. Pitching was this kid's second priority in high school to football. No arm over-use issues and he appears ready to hit the ground running without any pitching mechanics issues.
  2. He looked a lot better than he did at the Big Ten championships. Very encouraging about his strong finish. Can we hire the Big Unit as a special consultant?
  3. FWIW, Rob St. Antony was on 1500 tonight after personally watching Sano's first games at New Britain. He wasn't concerned about his slow start at the plate at all. He did emphasize repeatedly that Sano has made extraordinary progress over at 3B. He mentioned how he went through a grueling session of defensive reps of hot smashes and slow hit dinks and never missed one ball or throw to first. He made it sound as if this was something he had never done before. The writing is on the wall. I hope both the Twins and Trevor are wide open to the concept of him becoming the super-utility guy. It seems like the best way to utilize him, given the facts you stated so well. His approach at the plate is still on the upswing, and he showed in that amazing month last year that there is something still untapped towards realizing his full potential.
  4. If the Twins don't want to keep him, I'm sure the Orioles would love to trade for him in a super-utility role.
  5. Your responses really demonstrate the fact that you really don't understand the nature of the business that is Major League Baseball. FYI, it is an oligopoly, with an exemption from the federal antitrust laws. I'm guessing your business doesn't resemble this business model.
  6. Cameron would garner more credibility if he had said this over the winter, as many of us actually did right here on TD.
  7. Any fan over the age of 14 should agree with you and your take only...? Got it. Condescension is the key to winning an argument. I'll be sure to write that down. You somehow failed to answer any of my points, so sure that only if I write down your bromide, that I will somehow have encapsulated Preusser's Secret Formula for "correct" baseball success. Specifically, with the Twins it is demonstrably evident that they haven't tried to "be as good a team as they can" since the end of 2011. And sorry, the Twins do owe the community something. If they fail to live up to their promises leading up to the stadium debut, it will (& already has) come back to bite them where it hurts. That's the nature of being a good corporate citizen that follows up on its public commitments, and, baseball. Any fan over 14 who has an understanding of how a local business that, in particular- focuses its financial interests on mass-participation-revenue-generating sports entertainment, builds and retains good will based on that social contract- should have a pretty good grasp on that.
  8. Conspiracy Nut:s-instagib: Stop it with all the fact-finding already, just trying to confuse those who want to be taken seriously.
  9. That seems to be the case with many on the roster.
  10. Lowly Aaron Hicks is actually more productive at Runs w/MOB @ 13.3% (13 out of 98).
  11. LSU has been eliminated, yesterday.
  12. Yup. That well is poisoned by both sides. How about Francisco Liriano? The Pirates appear to have a Comeback Player of the Year on their hands, at the cost of only $1M, plus a team-friendly team option year in 2014. The Twins and Liriano apparently poisoned that well, too.
  13. Right. It's foolish to dismiss out of hand that guys like Slowey don't offer low-cost, low-risk, value-added options to GMs in need of arms at only a $750,000 salary to find out the answer. Guys that appear to have the chance to turn it around health-wise is right up Terry Ryan's basic MO. Only he generally goes for guys recovering from even worse injury calamities.
  14. Many in the "patience" camp are already beginning to write off 2015, as well, beginning to look like a pattern....Hmmm....Must be nostalgic for the post-WS 90s Twins.
  15. And a pretty renowned and educated guess, at that. Definitely inside the ballpark. Of course, since the Twins themselves, are on record for stating that they would tend to follow that formula for their business model and used that as an assurance to the public to get TF up and operational, the onus is on the Twins to assure that this is, in fact, what they're doing.
  16. Show me again, where is "fiscal responsibility" listed in the standings? The $40M the Twins didn't spend this year is not gong to be put back into the payroll next year or any other year, it goes to executive bonuses and the "excess earnings paid out" ledger. You spend money to improve your situational prospects, improving your situational prospects affords you the chance to make even more money. These baseball clubs are actually baubles more than businesses. Two teams, the Rangers and Dodgers are currently in financial clover, despite being declared bankrupt, or on the brink of bankruptcy, in just the last 4 years. That's the MLB "business model." When the Twins made business agreements with local governing bodies, they were, in effect, making a pact and partnership with the greater community with their public agreement to make that bauble more shiny and keep it shiny--- not to make the owners of the business more money to the detriment of that bauble's potential shininess.
  17. In his last 5 starts, Correia's ERA is 5.14/ FIP is 5.48/OBA .325/OPS .891. And that was with ducking Detroit on the road in a scheduled Saturday start to face instead, the reeling Milwaukee Brewers, the following Monday. The long-term trend is not KC's friend, notwithstanding his 2 most recent pretty decent starts. I am holding out hope that he hangs in there long enough into July that some team is willing to pull the trigger and take him off our hands for a reasonable return.
  18. You might have a point, except that my eyes are wide open, I don't hate anyone in the organization, and I presented and documented factually the pretty clear case against the organization and its recent and current ossified thinking and miserly state of affairs.
  19. Based on our discussions on our expectations in the offseason, it sounds like much, much more "disappointment" is headed your way then, Bird.
  20. How could you possibly have reached that conclusion? The FO had made it "clear" if you read ALL of their quotes in their entirety through the verbal PR smokescreens- and- in their actions taken regarding personnel, starting in-season in 2011, that the payroll would be continually pared back in phases over the next few seasons.
  21. Wait a minute... I've been told repeatedly that it was axiomatic that a baseball manager makes virtually no difference in the W-L column... And yet, the Twins' "plan" is to have a guy manage the team without a contract- or even a verbal long-term commitment to, fighting for his professional life, on a squad put together that from the onset, clearly was a punt for the 2013 season, and is supposed to be in rebuilding phase, where wins are supposed to be secondary concerns, and has their best pitcher, still untested at the major league level.
  22. Man this guy is good at keeping a bit going.... Carry on...
  23. You're not actually buying into this bit, are you?
  24. This most certainly is not the thread to "honestly address the original post"....
  25. Not only are these habits, there seems to be a pattern of continual self-inflicted wounds. For some reason they have have a penchant for ostracizing guys (internally and through their reliable media stooges) who aren't completely "Twins Way robots" and/or they end up selling them when they're at rock-bottom value (Garza, Lohse, Hardy.....). It would be nice if just once they could deal a JJ Hardy the year after he hits 30 HR and OPS's @ .801 instead of after he hits 6 HR with a .714 OPS (Josh Willingham also fits). Or Liriano, when he had an ERA+ of 112 in 2010 instead of last year when his ERA+ was 76 (FYI, his current ERA+ with the Pirates is 149).
