  1. ".....We only know the show must go on....!"
  2. Rare form today, Chief! Truly a new LOL level of DROLL....
  3. Yeah, Leaning on the wall might work.
  4. It's always a good day when Gardy has his "Twins Way" hand forced.
  5. I saw him play last year in Cedar Rapids and I tend to agree with you, but since the "new normal" standards for SS have now included some semblance of hitting ability and Nunez apparently qualifies in this regard, I thought I'd throw his name in the hopper,
  6. And here we were all convinced that Butera and Hicks would set records for futility that would never be broken.....
  7. How can we leave out the prospect of a youthful infusion of Doug Bernier?
  8. Awesome....and I don't even like Tom Petty.
  9. SS Polanco has the highest wOBA in the Florida State League....and a heckuva athlete....
  10. Speaking of the universes not imploding, what's happened to rabble-rouser Powers and his many minions who just a couple days go were ready to breach the barricades armed with pitchforks over the state of Twins starting pitching?
  11. Only because we only have last year to compare him to..and more importantly...no one waiting in the wings that offers an upgrade. How about twice a week with Mastro, now that both Arcia and Willingham are DL'd?
  12. I heard he's already familiar with Sabbath.... But how can you have two back to back players in the order at this level of futility? But Hicks has to stay on the roster simply because the Twins know they can't go with Clete Mastroianni on a daily basis, soo,,,Flo has to Go.
  13. A day off tomorrow....is this P-Flo's "Black Sabbath"? Every time he comes to the plate I'm thinking this music for Pedro, Circa 1970: What is this that stands before me? Figure in black which points at me Turn around quick, and start to run Find out I'm the chosen one Oh No...NO..please.....NOOO! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t24PsZxohY
  14. Question: "Does the official scorer drink more when it's hot outside or when it's cold?" Answer: "Yes"
  15. Which part of the Tweet gave it away for you?: A) CT scan reveals hairline fracture on Willingham's wrist; visiting hand specialists; C) no surgery; D) Twins hope 15-day DL suffices for recovery I vote "D"
  16. I've been Gibson's biggest proponent for a year now. But until this thread, I hadn't seen anyone compare him to a Hall of Famer, and as positive as the results have been for his first 2 starts this year, that was my objection for coming to sweeping conclusions on a player's career from 2 good, but shaky starts. Let me go out on a limb yet again and predict that Gibson won't average 215 an innings per year & average a 3.50 ERA over the next 20 years- even if he gets the same alleged advantage that Maddux and Glavine had. In looking at the F/X data from Kyle's first 2 starts, I'm not sure what you're seeing this year ( I know you wrote about Gibson getting screwed by the umps in 2013), but it's actually been the tale of two pitchers- Game 1- he had a tendency to wild high, with 4 out of zone/borderline strikes called with 6 in-zone balls called. http://pitchfx.texasleaguers.com/pitcher/502043/?batters=A&count=AA&pitches=AA&from=4%2F5%2F2014&to=4%2F5%2F2014 Game 2- most of his pitches were down in the zone and his wildness was low, with one out of zone strike called and 3 in-zone balls called. http://pitchfx.texasleaguers.com/pitcher/502043/?batters=A&count=AA&pitches=AA&from=4%2F11%2F2014&to=4%2F11%2F2014
  17. Since we've all experienced the horror of Nishi at SS..... and given the horror stories being written about Nunez's defense in advance of his arrival, the only way that expectations for Nunez's fielding can go is up- so I don't think your first comparison fits. The Twins desperately need some resemblance of a leadoff man, it's likely that Nunez won't be great in that regard, but again, such a low bar has been set for those expectations, as well.
  18. Grow 2 inches and lose 30 pounds?
  19. I eat my heart out every day I look at the box scores (and I hope Terry Ryan is, too- they probably could have gotten Bonifacio for Sulbaran, instead of Nunez). He's already started at 2 positions, played at 4, and leads the major leagues in stolen bases with 7 and has a current OBP of .480- how much more explosive would this offense be with a real leadoff hitter? Here's hoping that Nunez can overcome the odds and hit the ground running in the next few days or weeks.
  20. http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/roster/_/name/min/minnesota-twins I'm not sure if I understand your post, at all. If you scroll down to the bottom of the 40 man list, there he is. The Twins arranged a trade to be certain Nunez wouldn't be claimed from underneath them. Every beat reporter has been receiving inside information that Nunez is being given every chance to claim the major league job. As I predicted in my post, he started at SS yesterday for the Wings. From the Twins website: The Twins optioned Nunez because he had an option left. He is in Rochester to get his timing down and to demonstrate that he's major league ready.
  21. I'm liking what your dishin' RB. 6 is just about the right spot for Dozier. I'm wondering about Arcia's wrist situation, he may have a more extended stay on the DL- perhaps coupled with a rehab stint. A lineup where Pinto is batting 8th....this proposed batting order suddenly looks far more formidable than it did just a couple weeks ago. A couple things that stand out in your post, you've evidently gone 180 degrees in one direction on Plouffie, and 180 degrees opposite on Florimon?
  22. Thanks for the on-site update, Thry and the encouraging Nunez news. I'd love to see Nunez hit the ground running and on a mission to prove he belongs in the bigs. The Wings did play Nunez at 3rd and Santana at SS a day ago, so they do have that configuration option, as well. Would you qualify all of Nunez's AB over the DHer as "major league-ready" or is he still a little rusty? I have to think that the call-up is going to be sooner rather than later- and then the Red Wings will have the playing time dilemma for Santana and Florimon (or does one of them go to New Britain, instead?). Regarding CF.....is there a surplus position from which the Twins can make a minor league deal for some depth at the position (SP, for starters). Please provide an on-site update tomorrow, if you have the chance. I'm anxious to hear if Kris Johnson is worthy of knocking on the ML SP door or not.
  23. What? Go back and check his 2013 numbers. 3 straight shutouts, one of which was a near-no hitter. 2.92 ERA/3.10 FIP (5th best in IL)/1.16 WHIP.
  24. Nothing wrong with numbers similar to Chris Davis at the same age. Good start in a pitcher's league and he's got an ISO now well over .300....and his other batting-related numbers will improve as his BABIP normalizes. I don't think anyone should count this kid out strictly based on his K%, he's now got a manager who knew how to take good ABs in his day.
