  1. I don't think anyone is over-reacting, a few more starts is fine. He's definitely figuring things out pretty quickly, and May is also a good story, building on his success from the AFL. Meyer has the less experience factor and the 6'9" inconsistent mechanics factor going against him. To me, Meyer should still be called up first, his stuff is already proven to be elite major league level, his biggest hurdles going forward can best be managed by being in a major league environment, not more "figuring it out" in Rochester.
  2. He had exactly 100 pitches this game. And I was watching the Gamecast last night....FWIW....the home plate ump wasn't giving him the outside lower corner strike, or his K totals could have been even more dominant. Something really clicked last night, against a good AAA team, hopefully this was the "light swtching to on"- for good.
  3. When Parm, Bernier and Farris show the talent to be game-changers, they should get promoted, too. They don't, Meyer does. His stuff is more than great, though, it's elite. Yes, maybe more than 4 starts might be needed, but at this point, he may as well learn some of the finer points on the job with the Twins. As was pointed out in the article, 2 of his teammates made a simple pitching suggestion to add a 3 finger change-up- which he quickly employed in making it a dominant pitch. Imagine what kind of "tips" and other pitching advice he could get from major league teammates..
  4. I kind-of liked Fuld in that #9 spot last night in front of Dozier and Mauer, but having 2 defensive OFers out there with Colabello has to make Nolasco happy. Meanwhile, Escobar and his "powerful" .608 OPS in the #8 spot was also refreshing, too bad it was just a one-day deal, back to 2 automatic outs at the bottom of the order- it's amazing the Twins offense is as productive as it is, with those 2 in the lineup, plus Mauer struggling to this point.
  5. Super 2 could very well not factor in here. If Meyer performs to the level we all expect and hope to see, his arb years will be bought out during or after his second major league year.
  6. You were posting while I was writing....but exactly this. As I stated in my previous post, even Gardy and his neanderthalic tendencies recognized the potential value that Meyer would have to the team in a bullpen role back in March.
  7. August? Really? I can't understand why it is somehow acceptable to hold back your potentially best options to improve your team- both in 2014, and going forward from this season. Baltimore didn't do it with their best pitchers, and they were trying to win. Miami didn't do it, and they had/have no hope of winning. Once multi-million dollar arbitration considerations have been dealt with prudently, it's inexcusable not to heed Middlebrooks' admonitions with regards to Meyer. Even Gardy wondered aloud in Spring Training on how foolish it would be not to have some kind of role for Meyer with the Twins, starter or not, if he continued performing as well as he did in March. I'm less certain on May, but this is the year to get these 2 established in their major league careers going forward. And I'm not impressed with the argument that says that they should only be called up when it's certain that they will stick. Bouncing back and forth between the 2 levels is the norm, not the exception- it's simply a part of the maturation process. Health-wise, there should always be caution. But I don't see how he has much left to prove in AAA. His health and pitching mechanics can be best managed with the major league club. His learning curve will also improve more efficiently while pitching in the major league setting. He can always go back to Rochester and work out his adjustments, if needed. Let's get his best and freshest (possibly limited) innings with the big club, maybe after just a few more starts in Rochester.
  8. Excellent find, Twinsfan! What an awesomely great line by Middlebrooks! In addition to his 3 Ks on Middlebrooks, he also struck out just-demoted major leaguer, Ryan Roberts, twice. And the PawSox have other good prospects in their lineup, as well. Sorry, this was not the 3rd best performance in the Twins organization on Wednesday, this was the best, hands down- and we only need take Will Middlebrooks' word for it. Next up?.....most assuredly will now come "The Great Debate" on Meyer's current lack of, and need for, more "Consistency" before he possibly can be considered for promotion to the Twins. It is ridiculous to hold Meyer back beyond the arb cutoff date.
  9. Alex Meyer is currently on a: 6 shutout inning/1 hit/10K game with Rochester (3Ks on Middlebrooks, 2K on Roberts). The arb cutoff date can't come soon enough.
  10. Even if he goes 4-4 tonight, I don't see how he sticks around for long. Willingham, Arcia and Nunez should soon be supplanting Hermann, RP/SP (Tonkin? Pelfrey?) and Florimon.
  11. No need to panic. I've had a short sale in on PFLO for about a week now. I give full thanks and credit Gardy for getting all of the info out and making it public so there's no SEC investigation when I profitably cover my short. (But I think there will be an investigation into the official scorekeeper in St Petersburg, re: Tampa Rays player batting averages- have fielding errors been banned in Tropicana?)
  12. Unless something's changed radically, there's no "(supposedly)" about Nunez having the better bat. And if you watched the game today, coupled with the absurd presumption that Bartlett was once the backup CFer, the Twins previous strategy of throwing a middle infielder out to join the likes of Arcia, Willingham, Colabello and Kubel is going to cause mass revolt among the Twins pitching corps. Mastro can probably fill in for a 15-day DL stint, but what if Hicks is incapacitated longer than that?- I never want to relive "The Year of Clete" again- yet that's what we're looking at. FWIW, Gardy said that Nunez plays OF like an IFer.
  13. Absolutely Nunez should be getting reps in CF if they presume him for the Super-Util role. You basically have 2 Clete Thomas-lite guys in Farris and Rahl. Of the two, only Rahl has any significant minor league time in CF and both have little or no major league time logged over their 9 year professional careers. Then there's Mastro, less his 2012 speed, which would be a continued disaster at the plate should Hicks get hurt or need a demotion to fix his swing and/or approach. Here's the Gardy take on Nunez going to the OF:
  14. The plot thickens. Only one quote from the Twins regarding Rosario's return....per the article cited above: "'His weight has never fluctuated,' Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said." That's all that he'd give you, Mike Berardino? Really?
  15. Since we have an automobile reference- In the immortal words of Mackenzie Phillips...."Your car is uglier than I am...!...OOPS, that didn't come out right..." At 1:49-
  16. And Bert went on the record officially today, for being all in favor of possibly injuring an opponent (and former teammate to current Astro players) in "retaliation" for employing a common sense strategy against a defensive shift (and still in the 1st inning of a game). Clowns to the left, jokers to the right.....
  17. More bunting will solve everything.
  18. No reason to be so modest, Chief....Your own pregame reverse-jinxin' deserves its share of the credit, too!
  19. Would love to see Bartlett join the organization in that capacity.
  20. Yup. He'll stick if he has finally figured out his niche...walks and bunts.
  21. I really didn't want to say Gardy is a genius, but dang, does that guy know his statistically significant SSS (er, is that actually SSSSS), or what?
  22. Ask and I shall receive, just popped up in the last hour: http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/04/19/twinsights-eddie-rosario-serving-suspension-has-reported-to-extended-spring-training/
  23. Does no one find this odd that the sports media has not reported on this development? Is there some kind of "hands off" handshake agreement to leave the kid alone for now?
  24. It's a lot more significant when it's player-on-player specfic.
  25. It's always baffling when something so obvious is not in some way better addressed. Given that they didn't call him up in September, his refusal to play winter ball, and their pursuit of Rajai Davis, I honestly don't think they care enough about him to make him give up switch hitting. IMO, they would have been just as happy to open the season with Alex Presley- before his horrible spring. Davis signed for 2yrs./$10M with the Tigers, the Twins probably offered him $7-9M over a similar contract length- and failing at their attempt at getting him, it appears they didn't really care who ended up playing the position.
