  1. Good call, on the right track.... I'd go 45/45/10. If a LF is signed, it's 70/30/0. (When was the last time they had a guy go north w/o mastering AA?)
  2. Yeah, no facts.... besides the fact that Pohlad made it very public that the purse strings were now open, that all offseason- to the end with Ervin Santana, that they were actually going for four SP signings, not three, and the fact that the Twins had never done anything like this ever before, shattering all previous offseason records, in terms of FA signing amounts.... yeah, besides those... "not based on any facts..."
  3. And how many times has that happened? With Hughes and Nolasco, TR had to drawn be into the signing hunt by Pohlad kicking and screaming. Bringing in Tomas would be a bold master stroke, but I'm not holding my breath about it happening. They've already promised us a heaping helping of Hunter.
  4. I bet Terry could give you 5 reasons... http://media.gazettextra.com/img/photos/2010/06/10/ParkerGrad6_t500.jpg?21bf6915bb019ee8470ac50ab6ce308e04d7a184
  5. Bonifacio... a minor purchase, indeed, and he could have been a colorful minor character reminiscent of a Shakesperean drama or as it turned out, absurdist farce--> given the Twins decided that a clown show in CF was a better choice than the perfect opportunity thrown in their lap to pick him up, and his 2014 2.1 fWAR, off of unconditional waivers, if they had acted quickly and decisively rather than like Hamlet. But as short-sighted as that wound was, it was a "Waiting for Buck Godot" sideshow, a mere Bartlett/Gardy pinprick, hardly "the unkindest cut of all." AS we all recall, Abreu DID become available, and unlike Bonifacio, the Twins had plenty of time, "perchance to dream", of what he might bring to the club, and if they truly wanted "to be or not to be" contenders sooner. Many of us begged the Twins to get involved, particularly after the big boys begged out of the sweepstakes- it turned out that "to be or not to be WASN'T the question." Sure, they had a ready-made excuse with Mauer and Vargas, but then, as Abreu has proven, that "strategy" was a fail , to no avail. As it turned out, to Terry, it was both "nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune... AND to take arms against a sea of troubles." With apologies to Hamlet, heed his message this time, TR... "To play the game well is the thing, King Terry."
  6. River, you must admit... 'tis a far more quixotic journey on our part than pining for Bonifacio last offseason.
  7. Nah, Chief said he has a hunch, based on your time stamp, Bark, you just missed lunch. And if the Twins would somehow mirculously pull this off, it would sure put the Phillie Phanatic's feathers in a bunch. Unfortunately, the Giants or A's will probably beat the Twins to the punch.
  8. Rosario sure got a heap of love on MLB.com, and he had a nice set of AFL splits in his SSS, nice jump-off to 2015. Here's just a sample that closed out the article:
  9. Send him to AA. The spring weather is much better in the Southern League, which in turn will be more conducive to getting him ready to get the call to Minnesota, and besides, that's where all of the impact position prospects are likely to be to start out the season.
  10. And realist spycake bursts a few more illusory bubbles of hope.
  11. My inner subliminal-man take on your comment.
  12. Isn't it safe to say, that with all of the hiring evidence after 21 years at or around the top of the organization, that TR doesn't have many "little bolder moves" in his personal General Managing arsenal and comfort zone? Honestly, his general anathema to reaching out beyond that comfort zone resembles a kind of social anxiety disorder. I am editing this to add this quote which I just discovered on another thread... I wholly concur with Nicksaviking's well-thought-out take that gets to the psychological heart of this situation:
  13. Ryan said much of this the day of the Brunansky announcement, I know that I for one, quoted him on TD to precisely that issue.
  14. Typo on my part, should have been "steal", nice turn of a phrase, T.W.O., well-played! The Cards did get Diaz at chopped liver prices.
  15. According to Forbes, the Illitch family is worth $4.2B, with the wife, 81, still active in the business as Vice Chairman and avid supporter of both the Wings and Tigers, and 48 year old son, Chris, is the CEO and President of Illitch Holdings. I don't think too much is going to change when it comes time for the changing of the guard- but there are 7 Illitch children in all when it comes time to divide the estate. By contrast, it's eash to see why the MN Twins can't compete, they only have one sports franchise to worry about, not two, and the Pohlad's are "only" worth sooo much less money-- $3.6B. /sarc
  16. Should be available on the cheap. Velocity on both FB and SL dropped by 3 MPH. Contact rate soared, K% and SwStrk% rate plummeted. Assuming ihis bad year is attriburtable to arm problems or mechanical issues (in which case, he'd be crazy to turn down a Pirate offer), I don't see how he ressurects his career as a Starter with the Twins, but he definitely has the potential to offer a low-downside, cheap upgrade to the pen for a couple years (not a FA til 2017).
  17. As things stand now, and the seeming unlikelihood that any major additions will be coming in from outside the organization, I am one that would be absolutely thrilled if the Twins hit around the .500 mark in 2015. It would mean that there would have had to be some combination of events: more of the rookies were called up and had immediate impact, sophs didn't regress, the OF situation miraculously stabilized, Mauer returned to career average, Plouffe and Escobar prove that 2014 wasn't a fluke, Hughes stopped his pattern of even-year-on/odd-year-off, Nolasco returned to career average. I'm not holding my breath that the majority of these items will have come about. Assuming they basically stand pat on the extended roster, the most optimistic take would be that the earliest they could hope to be tabbed as fringe, not perennial, contenders would be 2016. And then, going into 2017, either Hughes would have to be re-signed or another potential ace acquired, or the Twins have to draw to a perfect inside straight with May, Meyer and Berrios. Still seems like at least SEVEN years in the dark forest.
  18. Not sure what your point is here. The Cardinals have demonstrated enormous ability in drafting extremely well from the back end of the draft, and quickly moving their less-regarded talent to the majors and performing at a high level. The Twins in the same areas, not so much.... The Diaz signing really tends to hurt your argument, the Cardinals went outside their comfort zone parameter and got him at a steal rate. They're solid and deep at the position already, he then offers the chance for an excellent sweetener to another deal. The Twins miss the boat on a low-cost, low-risk deal, yet another FAIL.
  19. I'm not sure the point that you're trying to make here. The Rays are the epitome of a small market team, the Twins, in stark contrast, promoted themselves to mid-market status, made strong public statements for the new stadium rationale as exactly the reason for competing in niche markets like this. They have left a boatload of chips on the table over the last four years, including refusing to even consider posting a bid in this particular market.
  20. That's not how it sounds to me in your Post #40- yours seems to be an entirely different subset to which I infer he wasn't referring.
  21. Can't speak for Spycake, but could it be he's referring to the Cuban/Japanese/Korean major-league-ready international market?
  22. Absolutely right, Chattanooga projects to practically carry a potential starter at every position, plus perhaps half of a future bullpen, as well as at least two future SP mainstays. And for Dougie, a much easier flight connection to his home in Southern Florida.
  23. I just wish people weren't so unrealistically positive when "throwing out these five and six year numbers" when it comes to the Twins. Your math is off. We are now in the midst of the fourth off-season of the rebuild, not the third, 2011-2015, and the Twins have already sent signals about off-season moves and 2015 payroll projections that Year Five of non-competitiveness is all but assured. And sadly, that is highly reflective of the Twins history since the 70s of the typical rebuild being of at least five bad years, followed by a number of bad/mediocre years as they finally accept the need for more comprehensive roster turnover. Here are the positive+++ and negative--- cycles for the Twins since '62. +++ 1962-1970 Mostly strong years, two mediocre. 9 years. --- 1971-1986 Mediocre to bad SIXTEEN YEARS +++ 1987-1992 Mostly good years with one bad. 6 years --- 1993-2000 Bad, bad, bad EIGHT YEARS +++ 2001-2010 Very competitive, one season under .500. 10 years --- 2011-2014 Thank God for the Stros. FOUR YEARS & ??? The Twins have a few rookies dipping their toes in the major league water, but the projected impact prospects still have quite a ways to go before this team will be worthy of regaining the title "perennial legit contender." Hopefully, it can be before 2019.
  24. And Minnesota's first Mr Basketball back in 1975. Glynn is his own man, people might forget, the Red Wings were ready to dump the Twins, he turned the fortunes of a moribund Rochester franchise 180 degrees towards the positive. He's the perfect fit to be one of the top two guys who will be whispering in Molitor's ear as the voice of managing experience, as well as carrying out the manager's game plan on the basepaths.
