  1. Thankyou, it's what Ive been saying for quite some time. Buck is a 20 year old freakishly athletic kid, who like all kids that age think they're indestructible. Obviously, he's not, and it behooves the Twins, what with their huge invesmtent in him, to convince him this season is proof that it's time to start playing smart, wrist injuries and concussions can lead to much-shortened careers.
  2. AJ Pettersen detailed Molitor's Tom Kelly-like passion for teaching the finer points of base running. Here's what was accomplished, under either a lot or a little of Molitor's tutelage (as copied from the other thread) Twins 2014 League Ranking per stat (VS. 2013 ranking stat in parentheses): BB% 2nd (7th) OBP% 2nd (20th) UBR 2nd (14th) BsR 3rd (21st) Runs 7th (25th) wRAA 8th (21st) Spd 8th (30th- LAST!) wSB 14th (29th) :
  3. As I detailed in the Parker H. thread, the club did improve greatly in some of the areas where Molitor had significant responsibility, like base running and on-base productivity. But I do generally concur in your overall conclusions, Pohlad has wanted Molitor for quite some time, and the writing was on the wall the day he was hired to work in the Twins dugout, or Molitor never would have taken the assignment. in the first place Not enough change for many of us, it will be quite interesting to see how much free reign Molly will have in hiring coaches from outside the organization.
  4. I think Dougie follows all of his guys to Chattanooga (and becomes manager-in-waiting) while Jeff Smith moves up to Roc.
  5. Petterson's testimony is affirmed by some of the statistical areas that Molitor is said to have had at least some responsibility and/or influence over, especially productivity on the basepaths. He sounds Tom Kelly-like when it comes to coaching zeal and approach about baserunning to his charges. And to be fair, Bruno certainly fits into a chunk of the credit for the at-the-plate numbers. Some pretty dramatic improvements in the following areas... Twins 2014 League Ranking per stat (VS. 2013 ranking stat in parentheses): BB% 2nd (7th) OBP% 2nd (20th) UBR 2nd (14th) BsR 3rd (21st) Runs 7th (25th) wRAA 8th (21st) Spd 8th (30th- LAST!) wSB 14th (29th)
  6. To be fair, Ryan hasn't exactly had a strong hand to leverage from since his return.
  7. Why is this a thing? Even Terry Ryan doesn't believe the nonsense being printed. No negotiation can ever happen until one side picks up the phone... and I would venture that Ryan has initiated as many conversations as he's taken from others.
  8. If Terry Ryan is true to his public reaction after Maddon came on the market, then, of course, the due diligence on Renteria should already be completed, and an interview invite is at the very least, obligatory- and hopefully has already transpired. Renteria is bilingual and would be an excellent candidate, as his credentials and qualifications match the other candidates.
  9. And really- though some fans can be in denial all they want- when it comes down to it, the Twins have demonstrated over recent times that these two undesirable traits aren't mutually exclusive of one another.
  10. And a belief that Theo Epstein will make all of that happen, including firing and eating the contract from the existing manager- who, come to think of it- due diligence and all, should also get a call from the Twins.
  11. Then I don't understand why you were disagreeing with me.
  12. Who has "pretended" anything like that? Who?
  13. Here's the money quote in question, from TWO anonymous sources: It sure plays more like the club trying to play catch-up after wiping the negative PR egg off of their faces.
  14. Credit and kudos to Ryan for doing more due diligence in Arizona- always good to get outside opinions from your colleagues.... although I would be surprised if the people he has reached out to down there didn't tell him he would be crazy not to at least try very hard to get an interview with Maddon.
  15. This line stands out to continue to cast doubt on the TD meme in some circles that the Rays wanted to get rid of Maddon:
  16. Pretty fair post, well-stated.
  17. And still, it's reported that at least 15 other clubs DID bother to make the phone call. Did Ryan know something no one else apparently knew? It seems more like what I surmised from the beginning, Ryan just has no interest or wherewithal in playing the game at this level.
  18. Generally, since an agent represents multiple people and is a professional, he acts professionally and treats every club with equal respect, and in that regard, is more than willing to entertain the prospect of an interview... and as I've stated before- it's still a win-win, even if a team isn't first on your list, meeting with said team can only help your leverage with other teams.
  19. And a week ago, Maddon wasn't yet available.
  20. Since I have virtually no respect for Reusse's version of "journalism"- 1) He's always demonstrated huge blind spots tin terms of balance as he tries to fit a story to his preconceived notions and/or intentions, and... 2) He's a genius at sensing when to lob a grenade into a story for maximum effect- I will have to pass on giving much consideration to his opinion on Maddon, I'll go with where the money goes, and where more professional journalists can offer more neutral assessments of Maddon's managerial acumen.
  21. Nonsense. Who said anything about false pretenses? There are 1000s of sit-down, no-specific-agenda meetings that happen each week that result in $1,000,000 returns, this is extremely professional- it's the nature of the beast. Mark Cuban has the right idea about this:
  22. The agent also said Maddon would welcome an inquiry from the Twins.
  23. I would posit that the "everyone on this board" have good reasons and reams of evidence to be impressed by Maddon- and can readily see how his talents easily translate to the Twins situation- and based on the huge interest from multiple clubs' GMs around the league- willing to put their money where their mouths are- -even with ZERO job openings confirms those good reasons held by the TD board. By contrast, for the one team with a manager opening, Ryan has virtually no reason for NOT being impressed by Maddon's abilities- and for all intents and purposes, he's even publicly admitted that Maddon is a huge talent.
  24. So much for the meme that was proffered on TD that the Rays didn't want Maddon back:
  25. Yes. And even in the small possibility that a deal has already been struck, Maddon- even as merely a professional "courtesy"- still should have been contacted for another prospective role in the organization (as Maddon has publicly stated he was also interested in pursuing). Some on this thread have said that Terry Ryan's MO has been to prefer dealing with clubs that call him first. If that's truly the position from which he prefers to negotiate, then contacting Maddon is precisely the way to attract MORE of those calls---> It can never hurt the organization in the long run when it's made known that they are always willing to pursue the most talented people in the sport. This was a golden opportunity to change forever a quote like Nerio's about the Twins perceived cheapness from ever being uttered again- and a sad failure from an organization that appears to lack the vigor and drive to leave ineptitude and re-join the ranks of the perennially competitive clubs... and a sense of urgency (the right kind, not panic) to do what must be done to staunch the outflow of season ticket holders refusing to renew.
