  1. If there is any doubt that this statement is not true, one only need look at last season. A lost season coming out of the chute, stocked with journeyman, has-been and never-will-be pitchers, and ridiculous minor league and major league FA signings and a parade of "promotions" to the big club of the washed-up and/or familiar names variety, as well as the AAAA variety.- Has another team ever had that many bad and never-were players over 30 in one season? Meanwhile, Santana was only promoted out of sheer panic and desperation, and out of position, when the club completely bumbled the CF situation. Vargas wasn't promoted in May while demonstrating mastery of AA- in favor of signing a clearly rusty and out of shape Morales. May and Meyer weren't promoted in May in favor of a litany of SP arms of awfulness, many of whom are now out of baseball or mired in the minors. Pinto never getting a shot at regular PAs due to Gardy's theories on catchers.
  2. Your last sentence is directly contradicted by the previous one, which is a contradiction of itself. The question is- Why? Why wasn't Burdi invited to ST? Because he was blocked.
  3. Fernanadez has certainly started out like a ball of fire at the plate in CR (5-9 w. 3 doubles). He's listed at 6'3" 188 #s. Is that still accurate or is he a man-child in the making?
  4. The split-fingered FB looked intriguing today, the regular FB, not so much. If he can effectively mix the two (and better locate the FB to avoid those gopher balls), he could be a decent one-inning guy. But his days as a starter should be shortly coming to an end for good. Seriously, is there any team in baseball that has shown this much patience for this much mediocrity?
  5. Uhh, if Steamer and ZIPS project FIPs of 4.31 and 4.53, respectively, and you also think that that is about what he could accomplish, then the only "appropriate" place for Berrios is in the Twins rotation. ERA-wise, that 4.50 would be second-best among all Twins 2014 starters. And FIP-wise, he'd be close to 3rd best among 2014 SPs still on the 2015 staff. "Factual?" Dem's da' facts. And some wonder why some other fans are frustrated by the promotion rate........ I can see holding off to gain the extra year of control, but if a guy is clearly the best option- then once that 7th year is attained, then promotion is the only approprate option.
  6. Ask me again about three hours from now...
  7. I'm wondering how both will do against teams that aren't in team-wide batting slumps like the Whities. Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciated Milone's brilliant "stepping-into-the-breach" performance yesterday, but it wasn't exactly like he was shutting down the Tigers- the Sox have been sputtering from opening day. I expect the Shark to amp it up today- in his "hometown" debut. Hopefully Pelfrey can come close to matching him for at least 6 innings. The word is that Fien might be out again with shoulder troubles- time for some folks in the pen to step it up, as well.
  8. I thought he was: http://www.movieactors.com/photos-stars/patrick-mcgoohan-theprisoner-2.jpg
  9. Max is not listed on the Lookouts roster, still on the Miracle roster: http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?sid=t509 And he isn't in either lineup, either today or opening day. I hope not more injury issues?
  10. He should have been pulled sooner, his somewhat violent motion is indicative of an injury future.
  11. Idle time.... thinking of new nicknames for our new stopper... Anybody....? OK, I'll start... Tommy "Smoke and Mirrors" Milone
  12. Great, now we have to put up with another Moanin' LIsa...
  13. Escobar in the lineup?
  14. Reportedly, the Mets and unnamed others kicked the tires and turned their noses. Was Terry asking too much in return? Meanwhile, today we've apparently found both our Team Igniter in the field as well as our Stopper on the Mound.
  15. Playoffs or not, I'd still like to have 2.5 Aces... plus another possible college arm Ace soon on the way.
  16. Nope, according to Berardino, anyway-
  17. Not by the TD "realists", or the national experts, or most importantly, Vegas.
  18. But will any of them be earned runs? The Twins are currently on a 37.1 consecutive innings string without scoring an earned run. It better happen today, what with Shark and Sale starting Saturday and Sunday.
  19. I think we knew they'd all start games sooner or later, but the Twins are now in uncharted waters- breaking their own previous records for earliest starting date for utter PItching Staff Implosion.
  20. Arcia appears to be Delmon-in-the-making in LF. And he hasn't won a lot of supporters from the new coaching staff this spring. I still love his power potential with the hitting tool, but he could very well be out of the organization by next year if they decide they need a place for Plouffe, Rosario and/or Escobar to play.
  21. Nothing personal and wish nothing horrible to happen with Nolasco, but with May now coming up this weekend, it seems to be close to a given that Nolasco will go on the DL for at least 15 days. But... if it's the difference between May staying up or not, I would prefer the 60 day DL for Ricky.
  22. Glass half full projections (yes, granted, you are the resident Twins optimist), and you still would fall short of 80 wins in 2016 if the Twins finish around 70 wins, which is pretty much where Vegas and the experts see the Twins in 2015.
  23. More like a philosophical shortcoming.
  24. That's a start, perhaps pitching against Sale on Sunday? The next step is to 60-day Nolasco.
  25. And yet the Cardinals and Red Sox regularly finished as high or higher in the standings and kept refilling their coffers with back-end draft picks ready to play in their early 20s. We don't yet know about Sano and Buxton, who both turn 22 this year and haven't demonstrated anything close to mastery at AA yet. And we know how much more deliberative the Twins are on promoting prime pitching prospects- mid 2016, when Berrios will already be 22 seems hopefully optimistic.
