  1. Couldn't disagree more, the big difference being that what it doesn't have in the modern bells and whistles, it makes up for in the historical aspects of the game... and the ivy... and the streetside urban ballpark on Clark St.
  2. AJ rejected them early on, and then they went after Salty.
  3. I admire Bernier as much as any Twins fan for hanging in there all of these years and playing a quality defensive infielder, but I would hope the vast majority understand that this is not the time or place for Doug to be on a major league roster.
  4. Barring injury, the Twins usually don't have a player join them in the middle of a road trip, and in the case of Arcia, I think there's a very strong chance he's going to need a rehab assignment before he is activated. Vargas hits from both sides of the plate, he is clearly the best bet over the next 5 games, I do question the decision-making here. It seems possible that there's something we don't know about that precipitated this move.
  5. As you can see from whom I responsed to, my query was directed at Jorgen, not you.
  6. There were better RP options if the price was destined to be Ramos. At the time, I thought that what "it goes without saying" was that you don't trade a can't-miss position player, especially a catcher, for a questionable relief pitcher.
  7. You (and Molitor, and Ryan) still haven't made the case for why Bernier should still be on the 25-man roster.... over anybody at this point with Nunez back... what magical mystery move you speak of is in the offing?
  8. Yep, and Loria barely beat out Terry Ryan for Salty's services.
  9. Let's revisit Boyer and Thompson at the end of the season. Regarding Vargas, the Twins are in a NL park the next two games, and then face the now red-hot White Sox in Chicago. The Sox have won 5 straight, and 9 of 12 since getting swept by the Twins. Funny, but I don't see Bernier's glove being as much of a difference maker over the next 5 games like Vargas' bat could be. There is no way in defending this, it's a dumb move to reward Bernier with a service medal.
  10. If they believe this, then they are mistaken, if only they check the "meaningless" stats, the answer is right there in front of them...
  11. If anything, using the full rehab time for Arcia in Rochester is the way to go. Every time he goes down to the minors, he comes back smoking hot and with his bad habits cured (at least temporarily). Which leaves a spot for Vargas... hello, Twins? There is a LOT more pinch hitting in NL parks... Bernier ain't the guy for that assignment .
  12. I'll see your 2011, and raise you Butera-Twins-2012.... I am of course, referring to: The Golden Age of Drew- (.198/.270/.279/ (Mr. .550!) and on the mound- 1 IP 1 K 0 BB 0 ER 0.00 ERA
  13. After today, why wasn't Deuce immediately placed on the 60-day DL? The way he looked after he was removed, it's a good thing there weren't any sharp objects in the dugout.
  14. Gotta keep the affiliates happy.... signing Ryan Wheeler to Rochester apparently wasn't enough to keep the howling dogs at bay in the wake of the big club raiding the team of practically all its major league talent.
  15. Are you saying we shouldn't give more time to letting the "Chris Hermann experiment" play out? (Current slash of .156/.206/.250.... Butera would be taunting Chris if he were still around)
  16. No doubt, true. But given the history with the Twins and proximity of Miami to Ft Myers, it sure would be a good move to make overtures to Red-Dog for this year, with the promise of a big league spot in 2016 on the Twins staff.
  17. How about the Ft Myers manager's job?
  18. I hope the Twins look into hiring Redmond in some capacity.
  19. Except exceptional range isn't really a top priority for a 3rd baseman, especially with a rangy, strong-armed SS. The play he made the error on was hit right at him, and very easy. He did make a throw from foul territory and throw his man out on one play, and FWIW, he did cover a lot of ground in catching two pop fouls last Sunday.... but I acknowledge that I didn't get the chance to see him charge a bunt.
  20. Regarding the value of fielding percentage as the definitive defensive indicator, may I refer you to Baseball Reference and Fangraphs:
  21. I only saw him play one game, which happened to be last Sunday, but what I witnessed sounds generally reminiscent of his recent play at the position. Through the first 5 or so innings, he made three plays involving long throws, a couple after tough stops on hard-hit grounders, his throws on all three were very strong and true. He also made a nice play on a low-spinning pop foul that required good reaction time and an athletic response to a tough chance. At all times, he was the take-charge guy in the infield. And then inexplicably, he booted an easy two-hopper. So, it's possibly a mental concentration inability to sustain focus rather than a physical inability to play the position. In any case, the Twins do need to find a place to utilize that cannon arm and leadership qualities.
  22. From the GM's mouth, to the Asst. GM's lips... to God's ears... Heard the Asst GM on the radio in the last half hour. When quizzed on Buxton and Sano, he kept coming back to how much they like Rosario for now, and that both of the top prospects "still have a lot of work to do" , "Sano's current strikeout rate won't translate at the major league level", "both are still shaking a lot of rust off" etc., etc..... translation..... it doesn't sound like either will be called up any time soon. Interestingly, Antony may have let a little cat out of the bag on Sano. When asked about his throwing arm, Antony said he was still working on getting his throws down in the OF, no comment about his play at 3rd base, which seemed to strongly imply that the Twins are not thinking about displacing Plouffe at 3B any time soon. ON the pitching front, when Wolfson quizzed Antony on any possible pitching target upgrades via trade from the groups of teams that will be sellers, Antony pretty much said that promoting pitching from within is the best route for the Twins at this time, and fairest to those within the system who earn the promotion.
  23. Chalk it up to a bad BABIP-related week, with a BABIP of .048 during this slump- his K% actually was 14%, lower than his season average around 18%.. And it looks like he's already begun to solve this mini-slump this evening, going 3-5 with a triple, double and single.
  24. Yep... I too hoped he'd quickly adapt to becoming proficient in the OF, now I'm not sure he'll ever make it to that level.
