  1. No soapbox here Dave, just backed up what another person said because I agreed with them. A third person validated my opinion after that, so clearly I am not the only person that has been taken back by a few comments. Sorry if you feel differently, we all can have different opinions, which is one of the reasons I enjoy coming to this site so much. Saying someone should be sent back to the county they came from, in certain situations is not a bad thing. What I should have said is that when people use stereotypes or say things like "he should go back to Japan" from a point of anger or hate, then it becomes offensive (at least to me). I am sorry if you don't agree with that, and I can assure you that I am not simply spouting off random nonsensical issues just to get attention. I have had personal experiences where people have told me to "go back to my country" and seeing it on here made me remember how terrible I felt at the time.
  2. Is he the biggest problem we have right now? No. Do we have a multitude of improvements that are needed to become relevant again? Yes. Is this a conspiracy by the front office to focus fans attention on Nishi and not our other more important needs? NO... Does anyone realistically believe that the Twins would bring up a guy like this to cloud over the other deficiencies that we have? Why would any major league baseball team want to completely embarrase itself on a national stage, just to cover up their personnel issues? Since Nishi has been called up, there has been a lot of attention on him, but the people that actually know anything about this team have not forgot about what our most important problems are. Starting Pitching, better MI defense/offense, and a deeper farm system with young high upside players. You have been watching too much TV and Movies Thrylos, please come back to reality...
  3. Thank you for taking a moment to recognize that he is a human being like the rest of us. I will not say that I haven't been critical of him, and at times made jokes about his terrible play (i.e. Rhomba vacuum cleaner with a glove > Nishi) ... because like everyone else, I feel he needs to go. But stereotypes and comments about his race are completely unnecessary and at times can be pretty offensive. Shouldn't someone be monitoring these boards for that type of language? I am sure that there are a variety of different ethnicity's between the people posting/reading comments on here. Are we the only two that have felt it is going too far?
  4. The Ramos trade was pretty bad, but I don't think it really matters at this point. I know when we called him up, he really showed that he could hit... but much of that has caught up to him since. Mauer clearly isn't going to be an everyday catcher anymore, and I think between Doumit and Drew, we have very good depth at the catcher position right now. Sure Drew's bat isn't all that great, but he is a + defensive catcher with outstanding ability to handle a pitching staff.
  5. I tend to agree with you on this. TR has never been a guy that sugar coats things. I don't doubt that he may have signed off on calling up Nishi based on the reports from AAA... but I can't imagine after the last three games that TR would keep him around any longer unless the higher ups were forcing him to do so. Maybe the people above TR want to try and rake in some extra revenue from the international markets to try and make up some of the money they have put into this guy... Just a thought.
  6. Thanks for the post Seth... Nothing too telling in this article, Nishi still stinks, he is still on the team, yada yada yada.... I did think it was somewhat interesting to see TR's response to Reusse's question of why Gardy said Nishi was "here to play". IMO, him saying it's up to Gardy to make the lineup with the 25 players available, is a big cop out. Of course Gardy has to make a lineup with his available players, TR did nothing to explain why Nishi is one of those 25 men. This has the stink of FO pressure all over it.
  7. Olympic "Blade Runner" Guy...with amputated hands too > Nishi
  8. It has been three games... he is 0-fer, barely making contact, and has 3 (what should be 4) errors in a matter of 3 days. "Buh-Bye"
  9. It is more what he "didn't" do today.... I was also working but caught the main error on lunch. High fly ball hit to Nishi in short right field, he looked up as if he was tracking the ball and at the last minute just left it fall behind him. According to Gladden, instead of running to pick up the ball, Nishi just turned his back to it in disgust and walked back towards the infield. Players are going to lose a ball from time to time, that is totally acceptable. What isn't is walking away from the ball and making Revere sprint in from right field and make the throw.
  10. Putting a Rhomba (robotic vacuum) at 2nd base > Nishi
  11. Whoa Whoa Whoa.... Way too far. Let's not completely demoralize the guy.
  12. New guy Pineda also went 3/5 with a stolen base.
  13. I understand what you're thought process is here, but I don't think this is a good idea because it is not keeping in mind the big picture. What type of message does that send to Dozier if we send him down to AAA and give his spot to Nishioka? Dozier is a long term prospect for us that needs to stay up and continue to build up his ability at this level. Nishi is an after thought and a mistake, that we are never going to pursue long term and will likely be gone by next year. Sending Dozier down right now, with September right around the corner makes no sense at all... ESPECIALLY if we are going to fill his spot with this dud of a player. Not to mention that one of the main reasons we called up Nishi in the first place is to give Escobar full time play at AAA for the rest of the season.
  14. In the case of Berrios, the numbers don't lie and it really sounds like he deserved this. Not sure if you all remember when we drafted him, but he is a hell of an athlete, and I have very high hopes for him. Buxton's numbers don't necessarily show it, but this is another good move. He came off the hamstring injury great, and I think it is smart to keep giving him challenges. Very exciting and cool news for the farm system!!!
  15. I also heard that Gardy said Nishi will likely stay around after Plouffe comes back from the DL. Last night was downright terrible, and honestly I was mad at first but eventually you just feel bad for the guy. He clearly has some major confidence issues and they are impacting his ability to play sound baseball. When you are booting easy ground balls and throws off the heal of your glove and flat out falling down as you throw a ten footer to first base, the issue comes back to what is going on in his own head. I say give him the rest of the series at second base, let him go back out tonight and make up for yesterday, and hopefully he can get more comfortable. He'll either sink or swim, but at least then we will know if he's a useful utility, or a complete head case that just needs to go away.
  16. I see this move more about the young middle infield players we have in the minors, and less about what Nishi has done to earn his call up. The Twins want Escobar to play everyday short stop in AAA, and with Nishi around that was not going to happen. He is also being paid a lot more, and the Twins didn't want to call up another young guy, have to increase their salary, and still end up paying for Nishi in AAA. I was always excited about what Nishi could do based on his play in Japan, however at this point in time I would be happy enough with a guy who can handle second base the rest of the season and try to get on base every once in a while.
  17. His concussion was not the problem at all this season. The team would not have even put him on the field if he had any fraction of a symptom still... His problem earlier this season is that he missed almost 2 full years of baseball, was not in shape, and his swing was completely out of whack. He was swinging off his heels trying to pull the ball and just flat out guessing against lefties. Look at his swing now. He is planting his feet, timing his front step and striding towards the pitcher when he swings instead of pulling off. Small sample size? Yes. Noticeable adjustments to his swing that have shown immediate success? YES! They also mentioned on the broadcast last night that Gardy recently said he had absolutely no concern whatsoever with Morny's health, and that he is feeling great. That is very good to hear, maybe the new baby gave him some extra confidence to have fun and enjoy playing the best game in the world!
  18. 1) Mauer did not catch last night because he deserved a rest. AND Drew "the pitcher whisperer" Butera has proven that he can handle guys with control issues very well. Look at what he did to help Liriano come back after his terrible start to the season. 2) Deduno is a joy to watch pitch right now. His emotion and competitive spirit is a huge refresher from what we are used to and I love it! As Gardy said last night in his post game interview, who cares about how many balls to strikes he threw last night. His performance was fantastic, and he shut out the Red Sox at Fenway, for the first time in 16 years for the Twins. No way should we second guess what he did or did not do. 2.1) Moving forward he will have to bring in the control just a bit on his fastball. But really only enough to keep the hitters off his breaking stuff as they get used to it. His recipe for success is to stay outside of the strike zone to keep hitters chasing the ball and either making terrible contact or striking out.
  19. I have brought up this notion in the past as well and think it is something the Twins should seriously consider in September. I wonder if the main reason he was moved to OF in the minors was because of his speed? Quickness and footwork in the middle infield is critical, but a guy like Mastro can just flat out run, and I bet many MLB organizations would be tempted to me him to the outfield. If anything it would add to his versatility as a big league player and make him a better tool for the club. Sadly, like many hopes and dreams we all have on here, I am sure the Twins will do the exact opposite.
  20. being left without power in India right now > Jeff Gray
  21. Probably not... he is for sure a loved non-Twin, but not the most. What about guys like Thome, Cuddy, and Hunter? I'd argue that they are all more loved than good ole' Lew.
  22. Diddo... let's just chalk this up to bad journalism, and another example of the 24/7 news world we live in where some reporters think they have to have a new break story every time you turn around. Overall I would agree though that the part that I mostly cared about what was Perez had to say about Valencia's efforts to get better.
  23. The Twins don't have the 12.5M to give up in payroll next season for one player. Read the article by John Bonnes about Twins future payroll and the potential or more cuts. Basically Bonnes claims that with the current team they will go into next year around $78Million. Attendance isn't going anywhere but down, and the team will more than likely have to cut payroll again to compensate. Unless they do some major cuts, unfortunately it just does not look very good for being able to afford Frankie.
  24. I would also add that a common critique of Plouffe is his inconsistency in his foot work at SS. When you play short, you make throws from all over the diamond, constantly from different angles. If your foot work is not sound, your entire body is out of whack on your throws. Moving him to third greatly increases his ability to make throws from a consistent position on the field and allows him to get his feet set almost always before he throws. He hasn't been perfect at 3B either... however it is very obvious just to the naked eye that the position change is working to his advantage.
  25. Leave Plouffe at third... he has earned that spot and nobody can make a case right now to be a better fit. What has Valencia done to deserve the starting job back? Guy is hitting .244 with an OBP of .281 in 213 AB's in AAA... not to mention he his k/bb is 34/11
