  1. How about "The Gemologist", Mr. Ice, A Girls Best Friend... lol
  2. 1) Denard (Denarded, Spanzy, Spandex) 2) Revere (The Patriot, The Rider (Paul Revere Reference)) 3) Mauer (Sideburns, The Kid, Mauerzy) 4) Willingham (Hamburgalur, Green Eggs and Ham, Home Run Hammer) 5) Morneau (I crush you, this Just-In, The Mortician) 6) Doumit (Doughnut, Bear Claw, Glazed with Sprinkles) 7) Dozier (Bull Dozier... I have to say I have posted about Dozier many times since he's been called up and usually refer to him as the Bull Dozier already, thanks for stealing my thunder asmus haha) 8) Ploufe (Ploufey, Ploufe Doggy Dog, The Magician) 9) Carrol (Weasel... because he resembles a weasel, gramps, Frosty the Snowman, Silver Bells, Silent Night, any other Christmas Carol)
  3. Very good point... I also think with the way the schedule is shaping up the next week or two, we were able to give him the break on the DL and not really shake up much in the rotation.
  4. Twins official website listed this as right shoulder inflamation... not that I am ever happy when a Twins player goes down with an injury, but I find it quite funny that last night on the broadcast right when the game began, Bert was eluding to how similar PJ is to Pavano when they are both healthy and pitching well... looks like they have the same injuries too
  5. I agree that he looked pretty angry (face even more red than usual), but my whole point, and I believe you are on the right track in your first paragraph, is when you have a young guy like PJ that is looking to establish himself and is hesitant to report any possible problems to the manager, it is the training staffs responsibility to keep Gardy in the loop. It is very likely, and probably correct that PJ did know he wasn't 100% before the game but said nothing to Gardy because he wants to prove himself... my issue is with the trainers not communicating this to Gardy even if Peej didn't want to.
  6. I think you are right in your first paragraph about sending out the pitching coach first normally that is the order of operations when a guy is struggling. Last night however, was not a situation where Anderson could/should have gone out first. They clearly were watching him from that first at bat, and as he threw an 86mph FASTBALL to Thome, it was obvious something was up. PJ did not need to get "settled down", he needed his manager to stare him in the eyes and directly ask WTF is going on, because he was not his normal self. I don't think that means Gardy knew anything before the game, I think it means that they recognized very early on in the first two at bats that he was not "right" from the get go, and they were preparing for the inevitable by warming up Manship.
  7. Thanks for the heads up SB... It was driving me nuts that I couldn't verify what I had read a few days ago. How did he get a bruised leg, was he hit by a line drive or something?
  8. I thought so too! I actually just went to mlb.com and the twins website to try and back up the fact that he is on the DL and couldn't find anything... do you know what happened to him?
  9. I actually believe Gardy on this one Thrylos... and while I see your point regarding the Nathan and Capps ordeal, wasn't the reason Nathan got removed is because he went to Gardy on his own and basically shut him self down? I believe that was the way it got reported last year. Nathan,,, after numerous issues with injuries and poor appearances, went to Gardy and said that he didn't have the "stuff" to be closing at the time and took himself out of that role. I do agree with you that somebody did him a major disservice last night, and from the last few starts prior to last night, I'd be willing to bet Walters had expressed his "shoulder stiffness" a while ago and it still went unreported. I mean cooooome on, my high school football trainer could have done a better job keeping these players healthy, and she doubled as a gym teacher!!! (no offense to Gym teachers out there )
  10. Who has the responsibility of holding this training staff accountable for their mistakes? The fact that Walters expressed his concerns before taking the mound and that no body on the staff felt it necessary to alert Gardy of this is not good. I would think that their main job is to listen to what the players are telling them and keep the Manager informed on all issues. They have the obligation to keep these guys healthy and somebody did Walters a GREAT disservice last night.
  11. You are all wrong... the "M" hats deserves all the credit for the recent success. Now all they need to do is start growing mullets, and big bushy mustaches circa 1987/91 and we will be back in business.
  12. I actually almost excluded him from this when I wrote it, and you are right he is probably not washed up like the others... just needed a change of scenery.
  13. Aahhhh yes. you are both right, I was thinking of the 09' game 163, which correct me if I'm wrong was the last regular season game at the dome right?
  14. I couldn't believe that when I saw it last night on TV! I wonder why they didn't get him a new jersey, or maybe he had no idea of the mistake?! Either way it made for a good laugh!
  15. Who would you replace him with? Either from our current system, or going out and getting somebody? I'm not sure where our middle infield depth is at in the farm system and really am tired of seeing the revolving door of "veteran" FA infielders each and every year... We just should have kept O-dog and had him play short until Dozier was ready.
  16. I am with you on this one Shane... sometime's I wish I could be a fly on the wall of the meeting room when these choices are made, because this one is puzzling. Yes, Parm is tearing the cover off the ball, but the sample size is still relatively small. This also stumps me because it looks like Justin is starting to come around, and has been pretty frontal about his preference to play 1b vs. DH. GOOD to see Cole go down and not just get DFA'd entirely, he earned that and should be proud about what he did while he was up... Who takes his spot now? Swarzack, Manship, or do we make another move and bring up Hendricks? I would like to see the latter.
  17. My point about him being a starter was relative to the teams current situation... Of course his career numbers make him a better fit as a utility type guy, and his clutch hitting I would argue make him especially a better bench player. Right now, who else do we have that could be an everyday starter on the big club or in the farm system, that you think legitimately should get a shot over Alexi? That's a serious question too...
  18. Is that scout even employed by the Twins anymore? I don't even know why we are wasting quality at bats and everyday playing time with him and holding back other prospects that can actually take coaching and improve their game...
  19. I don't think playing 2nd is a bad idea either... but something is clearly stopping Gardy from putting Casilla at short on an everyday basis. Who knows, Casilla may have told him that he would rather play second... HEY Remember that "All-Star" "MVP" caliber Japanese second basemen we scouted and paid something like $15million to??? Yeah, me neither...
  20. The team that started at the beginning of the season had so many different factors contributing to their problems, that was for sure NOT who this team really is. So many new faces, lack of respectable starting pitching, and the big boys slumping early really put the Twins behind the 8-ball. As long as our starting pitchers keep putting the ball over the plate and giving our team a chance to win every game, I feel we will continue this recent trend. Maybe this is just my optimism getting the best of me but in 2006 on June 7th the Twins were 25-33, had just released washed up veterans like Tony Bautista, Juan Castro, Kyle Loshe, and called on the young guns from the Red Wings to fill the void. They went 9-1 in the next 10 games and went through a month of dominating inter league play with a 16-2 record.... This was all a set up for one of the most memorable games I have ever been to for the Twins (game 163).
  21. The Bull "Dozier" as I like to call him is going to be a good everyday player but I have a hard time believing he can be All Star caliber. I think when you look at how he started out it proves that he can hit the fast and straight stuff... once the reports went out he struggled. It looks like his adjustments at the plate are starting to pay off again, and hopefully he can keep driving the ball. Defensively I am not overly impressed (that missed routine play he made behind second base last night was BAD)... I think Dozier will keep hitting well and boost his confidence, which will in turn allow him to loosen up and make more plays in the field.
  22. The real reason Willingham is in left is A. He is most comfortable defensively there, B. His defensive liability is less of a risk in left over right and center. Willingham DH'd last night because we needed to get Jamey back in the lineup at 3rd, Ploufey still needs to play everyday with his bat starting to pick up, and Mauerzy sat because of his thumb so you insert Doumit at C instead of RF.
  23. I actually agree with your take... looking back at my original lineup I think Ben's speed is best used in CF, then you take care of the runners advancing 1st to 3rd on singles issue because his throw is the most direct to 2nd from CF.
  24. I am not a "Stat guy" but I would be curious to see just what the scoring rate is when a man is on 2nd base for Ben compared to any other major league outfielder... singles with a man on 2nd usually end up in a run, as long as the base runner isn't Jim Thome out there. To your point however, going 1st to 3rd on a single is a concern and something that Ben will need to work on. The nice thing about arm strength is that you can build it, and from what I can see in Revere, he is a hard worker and a pretty athletic individual. I am confident this is something he will work to improve upon (maybe even more so than his bunting) and even though it may always bee his greatest weakness, it won't be such a great point of debate like it is today.
