  1. Am a fan of a great college pitcher. High school pitcher would be next. Twins have several catchers that could make it and probably will still be looking at a high draft pick in 2018. Prefer college if possible because next window may start in 2018 - 2019 and a college pitcher could help by then. The number 1 prospect seems interesting if he can keep it up this year.
  2. McLeod and let him pick the GM. Though Piccolo is the last of my out of organization candidates.
  3. Most of bullpen from this year can be gone. Expect Rogers and Shaggy to stay around. Would use Wimmers as a long man to start and Duffey here is you want him in the pen. Rest is audition time for most of the AA and AAA relievers. Perkins will be a lock if he has anything left.
  4. You are looking for improvement. That involves some risk. I look at two factors 1. Will Dozier likely be part of the next good Twins team - answer no 2. Can he bring some pitchers who might well be part of the next Twins good team - Almost certainly yes. FInd the right pitchers and pull the trigger. I have just suggested the Dodgers and they need a 2nd baseman and have plenty of young pitching to offer. Utley is not the answer and they probably will be willing to deal. Other factor is that Dozier is cheap as players with his skillset go, Dodger do not have payroll issues, but money saved could be used elsewhere. They also have (Kershaw, Madea. Kazmir, McCarthey, Ryu and several other pitchers under contract for next year. That is the makings of a deal.
  5. Santana is the only name in the rotation I would write in ink. I would start Berrios in long mop in the pen and let him work his way into the rotation. May I would move back to starter and probably start in Rochester to increase his workload. Duffey also to the pen, that leaves me with Santiago and Santana. It also leave Mejia as a possible along with any signings and trades. Gibson I do not know what to do, non tender seems to be an option, since he is already late 20's and will probably not be here 2 years from now or possibly trade with another bad team for an A to A+ pitcher with some upside. Maybe Gonsalves is able to start here, would give him the chance in spring training to convince me. That would also leave probably Wimmers, Chagois, Rogers, Pressley in the pen also with the other 2 pitchers and leave only 1 lefty to be found. This would be written in pencil with hopes some of the other AA pen could force there way here.
  6. Outside of Brett Anderson, I believe all of the Dodger starters are under contract for next year. If you want the deal why not aim high and go for Urias and not Deleon(I do not believe in him enough). Dozier's contract the next 2 years is not excessive so he should be able to bring a very good return. If you don't get it this year hang onto him and hope he has another great year and trade him for a bucketful at midseason.
  7. Great article, agree with almost all of it. Final record no longer matters, only player evaluation and most of that should be done this week against teams that still care. Next week will be tryout week for all and most likely results to either team will not make much of a difference.
  8. Would love to see the current major league staffs pitcher rankings. That would tell the whole tale. Would also love to see this by year with the emphasis of checking on 2016
  9. Best for the Twins would be to have Mauer decide he is no longer capable of playing at a level he wants and to negotiate a retirement settlement. As it is why would you pay anything for Vargas when you probably will be able to get him for free next spring. His best position is American league very part time 1B and DH. There are not many of those spots open in the major leagues. Maybe you can add him as a sweetener to a deal, but would not like to give away assets. Good for Vargas if he could sustain the WAR rate over a year, unlikely but look at David Ortiz. Maybe a better question is the success that Chad Allen has working with young players compared to Bruno. This does not say Bruno does not work hard, but times are it is the messenger.
  10. Point that is missed. Minor league fields are worse than major league fields and major league first basemen save many more errant throws than their minor league counterparts. You are comparing apples to oranges.
  11. What do all of these managers have in common. They have a core of veteran 30+ year old players. The Twins do not have that. That is why I feel they need a younger manager who can relate better to them.
  12. I also feel you need a younger manager(late 30's early 40's) to relate to the younger players. Using fifty somethings is not working. Molitor is also going back to the Gardy thing of throwing younger players under the bus. How are you going to want them to play here if that is the reaction.
  13. If not Gordon, Vielma could man the position for a year or two. Your other choice would make Sano a DH until Mauer retired and force trades or release of both Vargas and Park. Maybe you try and find a way to get Mauer to retire, that would also open up the possilbility of make Jake Mauer the manager.
  14. Mismanaging the pitching staff. Overusing relievers, getting relievers up multiple times without using them. Using relievers 3 - 4 days in a row. Having relievers get up even if he does not bring them in. This is on Molitor.
  15. I still would like to see the Twins name McLeod to the top job. Then let him pick the GM under him. McLeod has the background of finding talent, that is something that cannot be overestimated. Any of the rest would be fine for GM(maybe not Antony). This would be promotions for all.
  16. Cherington and AA would both have know TR and maybe have access to him. Maybe they reached out to TR and found issues they did not know existed and backed out of the interview process early.
  17. That would depend on the age of the children. Would think it would be harder on the 8-12 range as all they know are family and friends. Teenagers would only be if they are in sports and good. I went through some of it as a youngster and only found a teacher in my senior year who started new activities and helped.
  18. It could well be some of these did not want the situation and some did not want to move or seem disloyal to their current organization, so replacement process would start if they did not get the job.
  19. Great list. I would give Granite a shot in spring training to make the club. He could start by replacing Grossman and makebe Romero after a period of time. Exactly the type of hitter major league clubs need. Hope Sano can stay at third, after looking at this list some of these players will be inline for DH next year. Guess we will have to trade Vargas this winter to make room(or trade either Palka or Walker).
  20. Hitting is not that bad, last I saw we ranked about 6th. Pitching we are dead last in everything and except for Santana pitching has regressed as the season went on. That could be both talent and mismanagement, overuse and getting pitchers up a lot early this year is a big factor in the decline of the bullpen. You can make a case for most of the current starters being here next year, Duffey might be in the pen or Rochester until he can get a third pitch. Bullpen except for the youngsters should be mostly gone.
  21. Other candidates are dropping like flies. According to baseball trade rumors there have been more than 2 that have declined to interview. That is a problem.
  22. I agree, thought he should have been fired in May. Clueless.
  23. That is what I am afraid of. Kim might agree to stipulations that would stop her from cleaning house and letting people go, if she felt it was correct, just to get the job. Would prefer a candidate who would not be as bound and would not come if not given control. That is what the new job is supposed to be.
  24. Ng has worked in front offices before, just not in the last few years. That should not be a disqualification. I just think there are better candidates. More concerning is the withdrawal of 2 prior full GM's. May be message on how much power the new hire will have.
