  1. Nice to see some of the pitching is coming. Now for the next 2-3 years, we still need help there. Be interesting to see who is taken in the draft. SS does not seem so bad now, and Florimon and Escobar seem to be OK there.
  2. He is likely not to make it here. Maybe he needs to get to a real bad team with no pressure to work things out.
  3. Dozier has about another year to prove himself. Hicks I think will stay, needs to walk and hit a little better. Parmelee is the question, he needs to hit and is not. He may already be on the way out.
  4. Agreed. He has about a month, or the Twins will seriously have to consider extending Morneau and cutting Parmelee or seeing if another player can provide production at first base if Morneau is traded.
  5. Do not know if that is the case, though I gave up on Hendriks long ago. Worley I expect to be back at some point, Gibson will be up around July 1 and the rest, who knows. Walters pitched a very good game against the Tigers and may be a hope for a while
  6. Far too risky a move for me. Would rather take Stewart on a flyer, may be able to get him for slightly under slot, and still work on getting a better pick later
  7. I would also like the Twins to take a chance on Stewart if the top 3 are gone. We need swing and miss pitching and this kid could be special.
  8. One point has not been noted in this tread. Can you waive an injured player on your 40 man roster. Do not know for sure the rule on this, but do not think you can. Twins have many outfielders coming. Benson unless he played better was just blocking playing time for the younger player. He could also read the reports and was probably pressing. Fresh start will be good for him.
  9. If you are down on Oliveres, why did you not drop Wimmers from the list. A probable pitch to contact guy in the majors with TJ surgery does not seem to be a good risk.
  10. Roberts may be a little low, but has not played much this year due to injuries. Always have good feelings about onbase machines.
  11. Little pessimistic if you ask me. Revere is being labeled a bust in Philly and Span has helped the Nationals, but you still have to take chances in finding front line starters.
  12. Good for him. If he can hit his spots, he can be a major league pitcher with average stuff. Maybe backend, but all teams need those. Hope he does well in AA.
  13. Actually he is being blocked by Parmelee. That should end in the next couple of months if Parmelee does not figure things out and start hitting. That will also make the decision on Morneau easy, extend him if the price is right.
  14. Great article. Agree with most of the comments. Gibson should be up after 1 - 2 more good starts in Rochester. Do not want the prospects to be so overwhelmed that they lose confidence and become useless to the team. Hope Thielbar becomes useful and can replace Duensing as the Twins Left Handed Reliever.
  15. I am of the opinion that Benson was no big deal. Twins have raft of outfielders coming and he is not putting it together. For those of you with short memories, Mike Schmidt hit like .198 in his first major league season. Not saying Hicks will be that good, but just to say patience is required. This is the sort them out year and see what we have. It could be a painful process, but unless you want to spend a lot of money, this is what many teams have gone through, before they got good. Keep stocking the farm system and have an overabundance of very good players ready for the major leagues.
  16. Expectations were low starting this year. That has not changed. They are bringing up the first wave and letting them play. That was the goal. Each of the next few years will be better. Be patient.
  17. And maybe Ryan feels the same way about him as other scouts, too much risk. We will find out
  18. Consider it very unlikely
  19. Expect the Twins will be moving players at the deadline. Expectations in the following order: 1 Morneau 2. Carroll 3. Willingham 4. Whatever starter is going well and will bring a decent return 5. Perkins/Burton Twins still need to bring pitching into the system, with stuff arms. It will depend on return as to which players get moved. Morneau's chances go down if Parmalee does not start hitting, otherwise extension is possible with Parmalee being included in another deal to bring back a higher quality return.
  20. Clutch hitting has been defined in some camps as runners in scoring position and 2 outs. I agree that trends like this vary greatly from year to year and have many factors. Probably they end up being about the players lifetime average. Let us look at the other factors. 1. Who is hitting behind you and how hot are they at this time. 2. Does the team have a pitcher who owns either the current hitter or the one behind the current hitter. 3. Failing 2, does the team have a pitcher who can work to the current hitters weakness or perceived weakness. Example, at the current time a lot of teams are shifting for Joe Mauer and pitching him hard outside, inviting him to hit the ball in the air to left or roll it over to the right side. Morneau is being pitched outside, so he cannot pull the ball in the air and have 3 infielders from close to second to first. These are the types of things I am referencing. Younger pitchers have a harder time of hitting their spots. Established pitchers also get the benefit of some expansion of the strike zone from most experienced umps. What Lackey did to the Twins today comfirms the hitting issues.
  21. Some of these pitchers will change in the next month. Will see how this shakes out.
  22. People have to be ready and minor league stats do not equal major league success. That being said some of the pitchers need to do better or risk being sent down.
  23. Gibson's numbers should be better before being called up. Do not want to destroy him before he finds out what the majors are all about. This year is not about winning(though that is nice). It is about player development. I expect about the all star games in the minor leagues a number of players will be moved up and some players will be moved out of the organization and some players will be in the majors. I expect to see Gibson at that time.
  24. Depends on whether the Twins even around .500 drop out of the race as some of the teams start to run away and get to 10-15 over in the next month or so and the Twins now are 7-8 games from the last wild card spot. The bottom teams are really bad and the west figures with 18 games each against the Astros to have teams get well over .500. My guess is unless Parmalee starts to hit, Twins will try and extend Morneau and start the end of Parmalee. Too many players are starting to pass him and AB's will be hard to get unless he starts hitting and when you are not hitting it is hard to find more than 2 starts a week for you. Viscous circle.
  25. Gibson should be given the chance. Wait a few days, call up a relief pitcher on the 40 man roster if necessary, but for the next start try Gibson.
