  1. Yeah, I'd be curious to see that as well but wouldn't be shocked since there quite a few more Right handed hitters then lefties.
  2. Don't distort the argument, nobody claimed top 20, you were saying he wouldn't net anything like a top 50 prospect. (or possibly top 100 I need to reread it) Then again top 50, top 100 is very subjective. Either way Span should be able to bring back a nice haul if he is traded to a contender or non.
  3. Every penny.
  4. The Phillies aren't smart enough to do that sort of move, their M.O. is to simply overpay for production
  5. He is 29 and he is not good offensively. His last 1000 PA have produced this line: .239/.289/.336 201/66 K/BB ratio. Last I checked that is terrible. The funny thing is you were the one dismissing Span's value in another thread, while now pimping Guiterrez. Gutierrez is obviously better defensively, but Span is still one of the better defensive CF in the game currently.
  6. The Perkins, Liriano and Slowey situations come to mind.
  7. I'm sorry but Guiterrez is awful. Wells and Saunders both look to possibly be decent OF's but they are much better suited in RF/LF. Heck the Mariners are running Chone Figgins out in LF half the time. The Mariners need bats, Span provides that. Though this all assumes Ichiro is gone after this year (which he should be). The idea that only teams desperate at the deadline will give up solid value is a myth to. Look no further than the off-season trades of Young/Garza and Pineda/Montero. Maybe they don't get something done by the deadline this year, but they should definitely be reaching out to teams like the Mariners when/if the time is right.
  8. Was at the Mariners game last night and it struck me that they might be the perfect partner for the Twins when it comes to trading Span. Obviously the Mariners are out of the race at this point, but it doesn't mean they aren't aggresively looking for long term bats. They have an abundance of pitching in the majors and minors, but have one of the worst offenses I have seen in quite some time. They have been linked to aggresively pursuing Billy Butler lately but the price the Royals want is rather high, what are the odds we can match up with a team like Seattle for a trade?
  9. The way they have handled Parmelee this past month or so is perplexing, I'm sure he doesn't mind though as he is making a few thousand more a week then in AAA. I keep wondering if they are inching towards a Span trade more and more every day.
  10. itstimetotakeit's parenting skills Tony Bautista Joe Mays Dan's Mullet Megadeath The Dutch
  11. I'm talking about his .363 BA over the past 42 games, it's pretty hard to maintain an average that high for that long of a period, and his BABIP in June and July have been rather high thus far. The thought that Mauer's numbers would somehow worsen if he was moved to the 2 hole is laughable. If anything he may see more walks if everyone else suddenly starts to suck.
  12. Um, I don't think anyone is claiming that Span is blocking Parmelee. The whole point of trading Span has been: A. The Twins are rebuilding B. Span could have a lot of value on the trade market due to his skill set and team friendly contract. C. The Twins think they have a CF replacement (at least in the near term) for Span in Ben Revere. D. By trading Span the Twins can fill other areas of need (Starting pitching, MI) while possibly getting younger/cheaper. As finding someone to handle RF isn't exactly a hard proposition, if Parmelee can't handle it the Twins can continue to look for internal options for 2013 (Benson, Arcia, etc) or can go out and sign a veteran stop gap for a year to handle RF (Hunter?)
  13. Before we crap all over the Twins medical staff once again, it should be noted that two separate doctors (One who wasn't even affiliated with the Twins?) didn't even think Baker needed TJS, they only decided to go ahead with it once they cut his arm open. In addition, Baker was in the last year of his contract with the Twins, why on earth would he or them want to push for surgery in 2012 until it was necessary?
  14. Anyways back to Mauer... Over his past 42 games Mauer has put up the following numbers: .362/.446/.500 He obviously had a bit of a slow start to the season, but that can be expected since he more or less missed all of last season (and when he played he was clearly not healthy) I don't care what position you play, or how many games you have to DH, give me a .946 OPS for ANY salary. There is no reason not to think Mauer can't/won't continue to keep this up. (Though the batting average will prob come down a bit)
  15. I remember his other at bats that game because he ended up only a double short of the cycle. It was truly an amazing game, however the first five games of the series Puckett was pretty medicore hitting only 3 of 18 with 1 RBI and 5 k's. Nobody remembers that I imagine.
  16. What are you basing this off of?
  17. I give this post a 0/10. Troll harder/faster/better next time.
  18. I have been thinking the same thing in regards to Mastro, they have been playing him almost every day which tends to make me think they either are: Making sure he is good enough to keep around as the 4th OF if Span is traded or They are deciding whether to even keep him on the roster at all. Long term Mastro is nothing more than orgainzational filler, but it is nice that he has shown an ability to play solid defense and steal a few bases.
  19. I think Mastro ultimately becomes the 4th OF/late defensive replacement/PR option off the bench. I hope he isn't being counted on to platoon with Parmelee or something off the bat, though he does have a nice OPS against LHP (SSS)
  20. Agreed, I don't see why he can't be at least as defensively sound as Cuddyer in RF, also it should be noted that with Revere in CF Willingham and Parmelee would technically have less ground to cover since Revere has elite range in center. Ideally you want a guy like Arcia or Benson to step up and handle RF since both would be an obvious upgrade defensively, allowing you to move Parmelee to 1st/DH in the future, but for a season or two Parmelee won't kill you in RF IMO.
  21. As it has been stated time and time again Span should at least net a top 50 prospect, for comparisons sake that would mean the guy the Twins got back would probably rank right behind Sano and Buxton in the org chart. (Or possibly Arcia as well if you consider him a top 50 guy currently-which I am starting to believe) Beltran a rental got a stud like Wheeler back, there is no reason why the Twins can't do better than that with a cost controlled, very good CF/lead off guy.
  22. I'm wondering if they do it if/when Span is traded. A lineup of: Revere Mauer Willingham Plouffe Morneau Doumit Parmelee Dozier Caroll/whoever would prob make the most sense no?
  23. Yup, it's clearly just a statistical anomaly. However if he continues to hit like this you def need to figure out a way to move him up in the lineup regardless.
  24. Hamels, Greinke, Diamond, Liriano, (who cares) looks like a playoff caliber rotation to me...just sayin...
  25. Just like no CEO is worth 200 million, Zuckerberg isn't worth 2 billion or whatever etc etc etc, this type of thing could go on all day. Mauer got paid a fair market wage, end of story. It's a completely separate argument and has little to nothing to do with how Mauer preforms.
