  2. While chatting with a buddy at the futures game yesterday we started talking about how the Rangers have really screwed up in regards to Profar thus far. Profar is a natural SS and should be playing SS every day in the major leagues, for some reason the Rangers decided to give Andrus a 10 million dollar contract thus SS is not in the cards for Profar anytime soon. Recently they have been playing him in the OF and he has looked completely lost, Profar is a good ball player, but frankly he just isn't as special if he is stuck in LF and eventually 2B (When Kinsler leaves- he is signed for many more years) Would it be worth going after Profar? Who could instantly give us that franchise SS we have needed...well....forever? Who would you give up? Would a package of Perkins+Arcia+Morneau+another 10-15 prospect be enough to get Texas to begin to listen? (Morneau is only included since he could potentially help them this year with Berkmans injury and Cruz about to be suspended) Or am I just high to even think this?
  3. Who cares if it gives us no reason to watch, the twins need to be doing what's best long term for guys like Arcia and Parm. Having Arcia up here flailing away does nothing, send him to AAA for a bit, work on some things and bring him back in a few weeks. A lot easier/less stressful to make adjustments in the minors then the majors....
  4. That sucked, def not going to any more of those games this weekend. Futures game for sure tho, wanna see some future twins who can get a big hit in NyC
  5. I was pointing out that Terry Ryan has gotten great returns on the majority of the "ML" talent he has sent away, while Bill Smith got a big fat F on that front. The reason why the TWins ML team was good under Smith was that Ryan left him a full cupboard full of talent, the Twins have been bad under Ryan because Smith left that cupboard bare.
  6. I have said time and time again if you get some top tier talent in return then trade him, I just don't see the market there at this point. I trust TR fully, I am just getting tired of all this "Well Perkins is probably going to suck in the future" talk that has been beaten to death in this thread.
  7. Buxton could be the next Willie Mays, but its more than likely he will tail off and become an average player because that is the norm. Should we trade him as well?
  8. We have 35-50 mil to spend next off-season, giving Morneau 6-8 mil to at least shore up 1st base as a stop gap for a year or two isn't a bad idea. Plus, this team and lineup are going to get really young really quick, doesn't hurt to have a couple veterans in Mauer and Morneau around.
  9. Yeah because last time we got rid of Ryan his successor did a great job trading MLB talent....
  10. But that simply isn't true: Scheppers: 1.84 ERA Ross: 2.59 ERA Frasor: 2.79 ERA Cotts: 1.05 ERA Plus Soria is back now, looks like 6 solid options to me, and not super old...
  11. Agreed with al lof this. Now like I said, if they can get some miracle high upside major league ready guy like Skaggs...then do it. But don't simply trade him to trade him. Bring up Tonkin, get Burton back on track and suddenly you might have yourself a real nice 7th, 8th and 9th guy. How huge would that be for a team that will be relying on young SP for the near future? Toss in Fien and a couple other guys coming up in the minors and perhaps the Twins could have a really nice bullpen (more importantly...on the cheap!) It seems to be the main arguments to trade Perkins now is: 1. The Twins aren't good now. (True, but Perk is on this team until 2017) 2. The Twins won't be good until 2016 (I disagree, they are perfectly capable of getting to a competitive mode in 2014 if they do things right, and if they don't make the playoffs in 2015 we should all be disappointed) 3. Perkins might get hurt (well every pitcher can get hurt, by that theory you should never rely on any pitchers long term) 4. Perkins might regress (Why? Because sometimes pitchers with mediocre stuff regress? Perkins has very good stuff and has been improving every year since entering the pen. He is 30 years old and a RP, there is ZERO reason why a drop off should be expected anytime in the next 5 years, much less 3 years. Relief pitchers have longer careers then their SP counter parts for obvious reasons. Hell Latroy Hawkins is 40, in his 18th season and is still effective! Why is Perkins so damn likely to suddenly fall off a cliff at 30?)
  12. Has Perkins ever had a history of arm trouble? I don't recall it so it shouldn't be assumed he will have it. IIRC Nathan had issues early in his career. Also I am not saying give him 3/42 million, Terry Ryan is not Bill Smith. There is a good chance you could prob keep Perkins around on a decent value thing fair to both teams, he is Minnesota guy who enjoys playing for this team. Again, we are talking 2-3 years down the road anyways, there is zero, I repeat zero reason why the Twins shouldn't be competing for the playoffs come 2015, with the best farm system in baseball and the 50-60 million open in payroll that year as well with Ryan at the helm, they will be competitive, also I think they push for the division next year.
  13. Uhhhhh........... The Rangers are pretty happy with Nathan his 1.36 ERA and his 9 million option for next year. Come on dude, you are just making up things now to once again do your best to claim the Twins front office never knows what they are doing. It gets old.
  14. Why won't he? He always had very good stuff, once converted to the bullpen his fastball picked up a few MPH and his K/rate has been improving every year are is now at 12 per 9. Just because some pitchers fall off (just like starting pitchers do) you shouldn't just assume all will. Plenty of closers in baseball have been effective for multiple years now. Guys like Rivera, Nathan, Kimbrel, Soriano, Papelbon are all examples off the top of my head. No reason why Perkins can't be one of those.
  15. No one is saying that will happen here with Perkins... however its hard to argue with Nathan's success/value when healthy. It's pretty much a no brainier the Rangers will pick up his 9 mil option after this year.
  16. So what the hell are you implying? Just build for 2017 and further? Brilliant strategy! I'm sure fans will be thrilled by "hey just wait another 4 years or so and we will be good"
  17. 2016 is a team option....there is nothing that says they couldn't extend him again in the future either. Good lord, people act like its a sure thing he is gone come 2017 which is dumb to even worry about as it is 4 years away at this point! 2015/2016 the Twins will be competitive. 2014 they could have a shot as well.
  18. Skaggs is going nowhere. Bauer was traded because he clashed with the organization and wouldn't change his pitching style (btw: check out his awesome BB rate this year) Sure if you can get Skaggs go ahead and give em Perkins, hell go ahead and toss them any prospect not named Buxton, Sano, Rosario, Stewart and Meyer as well. It's just not gonna happen. I will gladly be the first to eat crow if it does.
  19. Well he hasn't had much opp lately because the Twins have been getting beaten like a red headed step child recently, I don't really see the need to give him a bunch of work in meaningless games we are losing. Also even with the lack of innings, Perkins by far has the highest WAR of anyone on the pitching staff and trails only Mauer and Dozier(!) for highest WAR on the team.
  20. This is beyond ridiculous at this point, now when that stupid ad is in the middle of the page it blocks off the ability to write a reply post (even when it isn't rolled over) I had to just refresh 3 or 4 times to even get one post on this board. I'm telling you 100% that Toyota ad is from big lead sports, just look at: thebiglead.com which has the same stupid ass annoying ad. I get that you guys are trying to make a buck, I really do. But this **** is happening all the time, I hate to mention ad blocker, but at some point its either that or just stop coming here as its annoying to have to write a post 3-4 times
  21. The Twins have 35-50 million available to spend on the free agent market next year, while I don't expect them to sign any "aces" they can easily sign a couple mid rotation solid arms like Hughes etc and take a chance on a guy like Lincecum etc. Also for the bullpen, I am a believer in having a lights out 9th and 8th inning guy, if you can set that up you have a huge advantage over a lot of teams. Keep Perkins in the 9th and figure out if Burton can be that great 8th inning guy again, if not, then perhaps Tonkin can be that guy. Also even "if" the Twins aren't competitive in 2014 they would still have Perkins under contract for TWO more years! 2015, and 2016 is what people seem to think our real "chance" is with Meyer, Sano, Rosario, Buxton, May, etc etc etc all up and contributing. I would understand this setiment if he was only signed through next year, but we have him until 2016!
  22. Perkins skills and value go far beyond saves....check out his k/bb, FiP, xfIP as well....
  23. Also, you can point to the royals and say "well that's why you should rely on prospects" for the reason of their struggles, so by that thought the Royals should have never traded away their top talents. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Also I like Dave Cameron, but the guy is off base here
  24. If someone offers you some cant miss prospect then yes, pull the trigger but don't trade him just to trade him because some pitchers tend to get hurt from time to time. Also whoever said we could get Skaggs for him is high, teams aren't going to give up top SP talent for a closer, they might give you one top 100 guy and a couple of other decent prospects, but at this pont the twins need MLb talent everywhere, and Perkins provides that.
