  1. I'd be a bit disappointed if Pino was sent down. He has held his own as a SP thus far and I would want to see if he can keep it up. If there is a roster crunch I'd much rather just cut DeDuno loose as he doesn't have much of a future with this club, move Pino to be the long guy and have him ready when the next pitcher gets hurt or if May gets shelled 3-4 consecutive starts.
  2. Correia unfairly got a lot of hate from Twins fans, he was in fact the best SP the Twins had in 2013 and in 2014 other than a bad stretch he was "ok" as a #5 as well. He handled himself with class, never complained and went out every 5 days and more often then not gave the Twins a chance to win (Assuming they didn't have a bad offense) I'm not a Dodgers fan at all, but part of me would like to see Butera (another guy who got a lot of unjustified hate by Twins fans) and Correia succeed in the playoffs.
  3. Career over. Franchise over. Sport over.
  4. 9 IP 10k 0H 0BB 0HBP 0ER Twins lose 1-0
  5. Oh yeah, great work Seth! Way to scoop the Minnesota media on this one! Hopefully first of many , hopefully they all give you credit as well
  6. I mean in most cases they would have the guy up the game before regardless, just so he could get "used" to the big lights, settled in, get a good nights sleep etc before his first major league start the following night. I think you are reading to much into it, I don't think the A's hitters are exactly prepping for a rookie making his first start today (as they face Gibson) and they would have known by tomorrow morning regardless (as May would not have been in Rochester tonight)
  7. Kinda hard not to considering his results this year have been ugly and hasn't been in the rotation for some time. Ideally he gets healthy again and gives us yet another arm we can hopefully count on. I mentioned it before, but with those 7: Hughes, Gibson, Meyer, May, Milone, Nolasco, Pino, (Wild card on Pelfrey as #8) the good news is the Twins shouldn't have to dip into free agency to fill in the rotation, however I would like to see them potentially look at one of the "ace types" on the market, but there is no need to spend money on middle of the rotation types, and zero reason whatsover to get back end types. That frees up the money/time/resources to fill in some of the other holes next year (corner OF bat, SS?) etc
  8. 4.18 ERA. 185 IP By far the most "effective" pitcher the Twins had last year. Through significantly more innings then anyone else, and the only other semi regular SP who had a better ERA was DeDuno. That has value, even on a bad team.
  9. They were playing well, and they continue to have guys who have played really well this year: Suzuki, Hughes, Dozier, Perkins (sans blown save the other day etc), Santana have all been brights spots off the top of my head. 73 is the "low end" of my assessment on Gardy. I think they actually could play a game or two above .500 the rest of the way and end up at 77-85.
  10. My whole family has lived in Seattle the past several years now, and I must say I enjoy having them as my #2 team quite a bit! It is a nice change of pace from the freaking Vikings. With that said, I am optimistic that Zimmer and Norv will get this ship turned around rather quickly, I think they win 7-8 games, and if Bridgewater can step up somewhat quickly I see them as a dark horse to win 9 or 10 potentially (easy schedule) and make the playoffs. The bad news is they have a pretty tough schedule out of the gate: @STL NE @ Saints Atlanta @ GB If the Vikings can somehow go 2-3 in those first 5 weeks I would be ecstatic as the schedule then gets a bit easier with: Det @Buff @TB Wash The Panthers, Bears and Jets at home should all be winnable as well, and they might be able to sneak a road victory from either at Detroit or at Miami at the end of the year as well. With that said here is a path to 10-6 and the playoffs that doesn't appear to be too insane as the most questionable "W" listed is opening week: @STL- Win NE- Loss @NO- Loss ATL-Win @GB- Loss Det- Win @Buff-Win @TB- Win Wash- Win @Chi- Loss GB-Loss Car-Win NYJ- Win @Det- Loss @Miami- Win Chi- Win
  11. There is typically a reason why this occurs, by the time a player is considered a veteran, there isn't a whole lot of learning curve left for them in the majors, coaching etc can only go so far in most cases. On the flip side, when a player is still in his first, 2nd or third year there is typically a larger effect coaching can have on said player since there is still a lot of room for growth...so Gardy getting on a rookie instead of a 30+ year old veteran makes plenty of sense. This isn't some phenomenon that only Gardy/The Twins do, it happens pretty much in every sport across the board. If Peyton Manning throws 3 INT in a game I highly doubt the coach is going to come out and criticize his throws as much if Bridgewater or Bortles throws 3 INT in a game this season. If Fontaine has a bad couple shifts that is why Yeo will call him out instead of Suter if he has a couple bad shifts etc etc. The guys who are "veterans" have earned their status as they have more or less been solid producers for 5+ years in their specific sport. Also I would suggest you stop using "Oh I remember this happening a few years ago but can't remember the instance or the specific player" as an argument. If you can't remember the time/player that Gardy supposedly "bashed" the player, then it probably isn't worth mentioning as it is just speculation at that point.
  12. I am going to disagree, you need to look no further than some of the starts the Twins got in 2013 to show you Correias value: Hernandez (12 starts), Albers (10), Walters (10), Worley (10), Hendricks (10), Walters (8), Pelfrey (29), Diamond (24) all pitched worse then Correia last year (31 starts) This year is a bit of a different story as THANKFULLY the Twins rotation has been improved with guys like Gibson, Hughes etc However his starts still have provided a solid amount of value IMO, though I do think it is probably time for the Twins to part ways with him. Additionally, it's not like the Twins went out and signed him this year, they got him on a two year deal, in which I think he exceeded his value in 2013 and came in slightly under it so far in 2014.
  13. A healthy Mauer, Sano and Buxton could all very easily be stars. I think the key is that the struggling positions/players such as Arcia, Hicks etc get to a level where they are at least approaching league average
  14. Nolasco is a guy who you didn't include who I think has an excellent chance to rebound, now Nolasco will never be mistaken for an ACE, but when healthy I think he has proven to be a reliable middle of the rotation guy. Toss in a guy like Pino who has pitched like a solid #5 so far and you suddenly have 7 realistic SP options heading into the 2015 season. 8 if you include a possible bounce back from Pelfrey, and that doesn't even include a guy like Berrios.
  15. Yeah the BB% is an issue, especially when you are on a very very strict pitch count. Having a guy in your rotation who will struggle to make it over 5 or so IP each time out is bad news for your team/bullpen. Sorta reminds me of Joba's issues when he came up as a starter for the Yankees, electric stuff but was at 100 pitches in the 5th/6th way too often. Not saying Meyer will have that issue, but it is worth noting, while we are all very anxious for him to get here, the guy has top of the rotation type potential, so if the wait is a little longer I can live with that. Anyways, I stand by what I said, the plan that was conveyed to me back in May/June was that he would be up right after the deadline, I guess just like everything else in life some things change. I'm not sure this whole thread needs to be hijacked.
  16. Fatbeer would make a great coach.
  17. Ozzie would be a good bench manager for Gardy, but I wouldn't want him at the helm, as much as I like him he is a bit to unpredictable. Not a good combo for a team that is about to get very very young.
  18. None of that is true, let's please not turn this into another bash Joe Mauer thread by distorting everything to somehow say he isn't an elite player/talent.
  19. I don't think Pino deserves to get optioned, he has been pitching pretty solid overall in the rotation and IMHO deserves to hold down a back of the rotation spot until he deserves to lose it. Hopefully he can keep up a 4.00-4.30 ERA the rest of the way this year that allows the Twins to have another solid option for 2015 if they need. I'd much rather they toss Correia on waivers and get rid of him for a PTBNL even if they have to toss in some cash. I know Pino is a bit of a lightning rod around here, but it would be prudent for the Twins to figure out if he could stick as a cheap #5 for a couple years.
  20. Statfreak should be your bench coach.
  21. I don't see them replacing Gardy after this year nor should they. If he can get this team to 73+ wins I think he deserves one more year.
  22. Very excited to see May get the call! However we should all probably temper our expectations a bit, even if he does struggle it is a good thing to get him the innings for the 2015 on forward.
  23. Meyer didn't pitch himself into the rotation yet and Nick did a good job illustrating. It was his for the taking after the deadline (keeping Correia didn't help either).
  24. If they put Joe Dillon in the booth would you sign back up?
