  1. I think you overestimate how much your average ticket buying fan cares about the minor league team. You certainly couldn't charge premium prices for tickets
  2. I think it helps some, but I think winning helps more personally.
  3. I disagree with most of Hunters remarks just as much as most people , but can we PLEASE stop hijacking every Hunter thread to debate social issues? Save it for your aunt/uncles Facebook posts. This is a baseball board for rocketpigs sake, one or two posts is fine, but we don't need this crap going on for pages on end.
  4. I would really really really really suggest you stick to the topic at hand. If not... As Walter so eloquently puts it "you are about to enter a world of pain" from a lot of other posters.
  5. I don't think anyone wants him gone at this point, many were against the signing at the time but I believe everyone is happy with the results thus far. I think the OP article is just lazy old journalism at its finest. I don't think Hunter has really made every player better (look at the stats) and "leadership/personality" is over rated. (Unless you someone think his personality is the reason why Gibson and Pelfrey and May are pitching lights out recently) I wish they would have done the article about how torii has actually helped out the team: as someone who is hitting the ball very well.
  6. Not when the twins are sporting the best record in the entire AL! At some point you have to play for today, and that time is now. I'm sure the Twins could have gotten a couple nice prospects for Jack Morris at the deadline in 1991, but I'm happy with how it all turned out.
  7. As long as the twins are within 4 games at the trade deadline, trading Pelfrey would be the worst possible move Ryan could make (unless you get a kings ransom in return) as it would send a terrible message to the fan base(we sucked for 4 years but hey let's suck for one more year! 20 game plans now on sale!) I would extend Pelfrey now if the price is right (2 years 16-20 million based on IP) worst case scenario he is a back end rotation guy or a great bullpen guy.
  8. Mauer, Ervin Santana, Dozier, Perkins, Hughes, Suzuki, Plouffe, Gibson, May, Escobar (UTIL guy until he isn't cheap), Rosario, Hicks, Vargas, Duensing (He will never leave), Graham, Pelfrey (I would give him a 2 year extension if the price is right , worst case scenario is he goes to the pen where he would instantly be an asset) Find someone to pick up 25% of Nolasco's salary and ship him out.
  9. .800 OPS + Defensive in the OF 20 HR 20 SB Reality is probably closer to .750 OPS 15 HR 20 2B
  10. I'd gladly included him in a package to get Chapman, but I don't see that happening.
  11. While I think ultimately Arcia is the guy you trade, right now is not the time. His value has never been lower and frankly the Twins really could use his bat. In a perfect world he gets his crap together and posts a nice batting line for the rest of 2015, heading into 2016 ideally we have some options with a crowded lineup featuring: Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Hicks, Vargas (This assumes that all of them will play at a ML level...odds are at least one will falter a bit) at that point you look to trade from a position of strength (OF/DH) to address a weakness, any of Rosario, Hicks, Arcia, Vargas would be on the block IMO to bring back some SS or SP help) You have to be careful not to trade guys too early though, while I still like the returns that Revere and Span got us and agree with the trades at the time, both set us back in the CF department for a few years. Unless Buxton breaks into the majors and sticks this season, no reason to rush shopping Arcia.
  12. Thank RocketPig, it's about time!
  13. Once Sano is ready I still think the best plan is: 3B once a week, 1B once a week, and DH 3-4 times a week.
  14. I would disagree that Escobar is a quality hitter and NEEDS to be in the lineup. IMO he is a decent util guy and a decent stop gap at SS but a terrible option in LF/DH
  15. 3rd on the team in runs. Also the guy hitting two behind him has been Suzuki most of the year...not exactly an RBI machine himsef. Mauers numbers were fine until the last 8-10 games or so where he has been in a big time slump.
  16. Call up Buxton and Pinto. CF- Buxton 1b Mauer DH- hunter 2B- Dozier 3B- Plouffe RF- Rosario C- Suzuki/Pinto LF- Hicks SS- whoever If Rosario or Hicks falters put Hunter back in OF and have Arcia or Vargas DH Problems solved
  17. Mauer still has the 2nd highest average (qualified) on the team, 2nd most RBI and 3rd most runs. He is struggling not doubt (esp with bases empty) but let's not pretend he is costing us ball games. In fact I am encouraged with the twins run of success with him in a slump, hopefully when he bounces out of it he will Help us win games when other guys are slumping (pitching, batters etc)
  18. As long as mauer is hitting very well with runners on I would keep him in the #3 spot, he is just in a slump right now with the bases empty. He will snap out of it.
  19. Trading Plouffe and hicks right now would be a monumental mistake. Plouffes "salary" hit is a complete non factor, you aren't going to find anything close to that value on the open market.
  20. I have been impressed with hicks as of late, he seems to have much more confidence in the OF and at the plate, even the balls that are getting caught seem to be at least being hit hard (last nights line out to LF) and the one that went to the wall in the 1-0 loss come to mind. It would be great if the bat continues to come around as in 2016 an outfield of: LF- Hicks CF- button RF- Rosario Could be the best defensive set up baseball has seen in a while.
  21. I'm not sure building around hunter would have changed much unless he would Have been able to throw about 800 IP the last few years.
  22. The worst part of Escobars meaningless HR is that it probably cements his place in the lineup for the next month. Funny how he is playing both games today but Mauer and Rosario are both only playing one. Sweet.
  23. 3-1 with this lineup? Might as well be 10-1. ball game, hopefully they can salvage a split in the night cap.
