  1. I don't think they would send him all the way to AAA, I think he could be a nice asset in the pen. May seems to have trouble going deep into games anyways: 50% of his starts have gone less than 6 IP, and he has only gone 7IP in 14% of his starts. Now May is still young and all, but if he is going to "make it" as a starter in the league he is going to have to figure out how to be more consistent and give you more innings.
  2. Why on earth does a team need 8 bullpen arms? Espeically when half of them are guys you don't want to pitch in big spots anyways: Meyer, Graham, Duensing, etc 7 is the absolute max a team should have.
  3. Hicks and Robinson could be on the roster at the same time until Buxton returns and it would be fine. There is any number of pitchers in the pen who could be sent down, or cut (Duensing)
  4. That could be literally said about every single thread in the history of Twins Daily.
  5. Fien will be fine (heh), but I would still like for them to get an upgrade over him to pitch the 8th. Fien as a 7th inning guy and a bridge to a guy like Clippard or Papelbon in the 8th would be my ideal situation.
  6. I'd consider batting him 6th.
  7. Most of the criticism about the Hunter signing was that he was 39 years old and you were giving him too much money. Most of the criticism about the Stauffer and Boyer signings were that they just were never good ball players to begin with. Slight difference.
  8. Boyer is ok as a 5th/6th inning guy, or a guy you bring in when you down a couple runs in the 7th or 8th, he shouldn't be brought it in high leverage close games IMO. Fien is OK and has been solid overall, yesterday was a disaster for him though. When you give guys like Boyer and Fien little to no margin of error (1 run leads or tied games) you are playing with fire. Yeah Escobars defense is ok in LF, but he doesn't hit nearly enough to justify playing him out there. Struggles or not I would much rather see them call up Arcia for a few games to man LF if your only apparent option is Escobar.
  9. He hasn't been better than Pelfrey and no amount of cherry picking two or three starts here or there will change that. Pelfrey has an ERA+ of 132, May has an ERA+ of 87, has given up 9 more ER, 2 more HR etc in 11 innings less pitched. People will point to FIP which is a flawed stat anyways and say that May has been pitching "better", but then will conveniently ignore the fact that Nolasco by far has the best FIP on the team.
  10. Twins: 1.Dozier 2B 2. Hunter RF 3. Mauer 1B 4. Plouffe 3B 5. Rosario CF 6. Suzuki C 7. (sigh) Escobar LF 8. Pelfrey P 9. Santana What an embarrassing 2nd half of the order, hopefully the first 5 can get it done for us tonight.
  11. It's getting kind of lame that the Twins are pissing away games where their starters are pitching great and allowing zero, one or two runs, continually trotting out guys like Escobar and Nunez in the LF and DH slots and for some reason relying on a guy like Boyer to pitch high leverage innings. (and forcing Fien to stay in and get shelled when he is clearly "off" one night because there isn't anyone you can bring in at that point) Finding a bullpen arm is the easiest thing to fill in baseball, yet the Twins haven't made a concerted effort prior to the season or even currently to fix it. Signing guys like Boyer and Stauffer was never going to work out, everyone could see that.
  12. I'd say pretty much 0% The money they paid for him and more importantly his track record of 10+ years of success in the major leagues has pretty much earned him the spot. I like May and think he will be a solid part of this team now and in the future, but let's not pretend the guy has been lights out all year or something, of the 5 current starting pitchers May has the worst ERA (results) and is throwing the least amount of innings per start of the 5. As much as it sucks, its the correct move currently.
  13. As much as I hate to say it, I think the best course of action would be to send May to the pen as I think he could actually become a real nice asset in the pen for the stretch run. Santana isn't going to go in the pen, so there really is no point in bringing that up as it's not realistic. Hughes and Gibson are certainly not going to the pen as well. While I do think Pelfrey could be lights out in the bullpen with his fastball, you just dont send a guy rocking a 3.06 ERA in the rotation to the pen. Milone looks like a completely different pitcher, in his last 4 starts he has a 1.73 ERA and is actually striking out guys at a 7.6 k/9 clip. I think the move is you put May in the pen for now, and bring him back up and switch spots with whoever struggles the most between Milone and Pelfrey down the road.
  14. I'm pretty sure if they traded for another starter that would mean one of Milone, Pelfrey, Gibson etc would be traded as well (which could help fill another position) As long as the price would be right, they should be looking to upgrade. If I was running the show, I think my top targets for a trade candidate would be David Ortiz (solves your LH bat and DH problem), and one of Pappelbon, Clippard or Chapman to help build a shut down pen. I would also buy low on an Ian Desmond type as well to fill in at SS. CF I wouldn't touch, Rosario is fine there for now and Buxton/Hicks both will be back within a month.
  15. If the cost is right I would be thrilled with either one.
  16. With Santana back this weekend that means one guy is "out" of the rotation. Pelf, Hughes and Gibson are all safe IMO and Milone has been pitching lights out lately. While I hate to see him get sent down or to the pen, I think the choice has to be May.
  17. I wouldn't have pitched Meyer there. The kid got lit up in his first appearance, ease him in a bit. At this point I have lost all faith in Boyer. Fien is OK but shouldn't be an 8th inning guy.
  18. Also why do you PH Nunez there!?!?!? What is the point of having Vargas on the roster if you won't use him in a spot like that
  19. Meh. The offense should have figured out how to not play like garbage earlier in the game.
  20. Nice loss on Molitor again. That is 3 on him so far this year.
  21. Who cares meaningless hr since Molly let Fien crap all over himself in the bottom of the 8th
  22. How do you pull Milone there? Dude was dominant.
