  1. Damnit.
  2. Bunting before the 7th inning is a terrible mistake, but making productive outs against tough pitchers should continue to be stressed.
  3. 1,000th topic in this thread, so I say we do a game. Each post in this thread names a Major League Baseball player. Let's see if we can get up to 1,000 with no duplicates. Can be current or past major leaguers, no minor leaguers. I will start: Julio Franco
  4. Mauer has been hitting well lately, I think he is fine as where he is for now. With Dozier, I think you keep him leadoff until one of Hicks or Buxton "earns it" at that point you move him to cleanup and Sano up to third. This gives Sano and Dozier protection.
  5. After reading through these, I agree the Twins should maybe wait a year or two before exploring this, however if they could do 6 years 40 million (buy out his first two years of FA) I would probably do it now. However, I don't think the comparisons to Blackburn, May and Liriano are fair. Completely different pitchers and scenarios. Gibson has much more talent and upside then Blackburn and May, and Liriano is just a whole nother frustrating category on his own.
  6. That hate goes both ways though, I don't want to get off topic and turn this into an Israel vs Palestine thing, but their treatment of the Palestinians often times has been deplorable.
  7. Wonder if San Diego will trade us Benoit for Nolasco straight up?
  8. Sometimes our worst "major" ally, perhaps? Letting netanyahu address congress was an embarrassment and now that blowhard is spewing more garbage about the agreement.
  9. Not for AJ, Johnson is pretty much worthless to most teams these days and he is owed 16.5 million over 16/17 (plus 3 million this year and a 1 million dollar buyout in 2018) likely he would be cut from a contending team sometime in that time anyways. SO you are more or less paying 22 million for a few months of AJ. Not going to happen..
  10. I'm just glad to see Obama and co not caving into Israel on this one. I am of the opinion that Israel can sometimes be our worst ally.
  11. Nobody is going to take on Chris Johnson to just get AJ, if the Braves are seriously asking that then there is no way AJ gets traded. Maybin is a different story obviously.
  12. Phegley would likely be the more attainable target and would cost less, but even his price might be a little high due to him being under control until 2021. Though I am not sure he is an everyday catcher anyways, he only caught more than 100 games once in his minor league career and I don't know how good defensively he is, but his PB rates seem a little high in the minors. I wouldn't want to give up any real assets unless a guy can "stick" as a starting catcher for the Twins. If he can't, I think you are better off with a rental type like AJ.
  13. I'd be for it, but the cost is going to be pretty pricey. Guy is under team control until 2020.
  14. 6 years, 40 million is what I would offer, not sure it would be enough though.
  15. You can actually change the playoff roster between rounds.
  16. Molitor has shown a lot of faith in Santana and seems to like him, since the recall Santana has looked pretty decent IMO, I am guessing SS will just end up being "the hot hand" the rest of the season, which is fine. I have a gut feeling the Mariners just traded for Navarro, they are "all in" this year already, so I would expect them to aim higher, though AJ would make sense as well as a guy who could do a 50/50 split with Zunino who they certainly aren't giving up on.' Speaking of Zunino, he would be a guy I would target for the Twins if the M's were ever interested in moving him, still very young and full of talent, seems like a potential great "buy low" guy. Arcia+more for Zunino swap in the off-season?
  17. Mine is below: 1. Hicks CF 2. Mauer 1B 3. Sano DH 4. Dozier 2B 5. Plouffe 3B 6. Hunter RF 7. Rosario LF 8. Suzuki C 9. Santana SS Bench Arcia- LF/RF/PH (Depending on how things are going, I would consider platooning him and Hunter at RF) Buxton- CF/Defensive Replacement/PH/PR Escobar- Util INF Pierzynski- C/PH Rotation (note: Santana Suspended) 1. Gibson 2. Hughes 3. Milone 4. May Bullpen: Closer: Perkins SU: Benoit SU: Pelfrey LOOGY: Rourke MRP: Duensing MRP:Pressly MRP: Fien MRP: Acter Trades: PTNL/Cash for AJ Pierzynski Nunez+PTNBL for Benoit I think this is a very realistic potential roster for the Twins, they don't give up any future assets and get some bullpen and catcher depth help. I would still prefer a guy like Papelbon, Clippard, KRod or Chapman, but the prices may be too high. Also I would look for a longer term "solution" for Catcher, but AJ could come cheap and would be a nice option off the bench in games against RHP.
  18. The pick offs have been increasingly annoying as well, plus getting thrown out at third as the first or third out seems to be happening more than it should as well. They need to focus on this in the 2nd half of the season IMO.
  19. As would I.
  20. Not to pile on, but from my understanding is that the sanctions have been extremely effective, and the Iranian people are THRILLED to have some of them lifted. Hopefully this leads to cheaper Saffron prices in the US
  21. It really doesn't matter, but this is how I would set up the rotation out of the break: 1. Gibson 2. Hughes 3. Milone 4. Santana 5. Pelfrey I think the Twins need to go at least 4-5, otherwise its a big disappointment in my eyes. I think they come out strong though and win 6 of 9.
  22. He isn't a free agent until 2020, but is it worth seeing if the Twins can give him a contract that buys out his arb years as well as a free agent year or two? Or is it to early and the Twins should wait another year or two?
  23. In that hypothetical scenario, you really don't have a wrong answer. Just like in KC with Davis/Holland.
  24. Howard is awesome.
  25. I would have too, but as of now its super close, nearly identical OPS+, batting titles, all star games and several other stats, I think Mauer ends up the clear #4 within the next couple years, and even could surpass Puckett if he gets a ring.
