  1. Archer threw a gem last time out and is one of the better pitchers in baseball, but I have a gut feeling he is due for a bad start. Sano HR buxton first 3 hit game Mauer 3 times on base Duffey shuts down a weak offense. Twins win 7-2
  2. And that doesn't even include an "injury" they could find. I think Pinto is the obvious option to replace Hermann. If you PH for Kurt in the 6th/7th you at least have a nice hitter that replaces him defensively should his spot come back up.
  3. Side note: I actually hope I don't jinx everything like I did the last time I started a playoff thread :-/
  4. Santana being suspended (and thus removed from the 25 man) automatically opens up a spot to anyone on the 40 man I believe. I would still have Berrios up prior to sept 1st but that's just me
  5. I mean if they had Berrios in the pen (available) and they ran out Pelf instead. Obviously sometimes things happen (duensing starting game 1 in Yankee stadium a few years ago etc) where you are out of ideal options.
  6. Could u imagine the meltdown if the Twins tossed out pelf for a do or die game?
  7. You start the best player available. If it's Berrios(or anyone really) you just have a super short leash. If he can't "handle" it and walks the first three guys, pull him and put in whoever.
  8. Meyer still has hope, but he shouldn't be counted on to being an asset for 2016, Milone, Duffey, Berrios, and May all should be IMO
  9. You forgot Gibson. So that leaves one spot for Milone, May, Duffey and Berrios. All four of which are better starting options at this point then Santana or Nolasco.
  10. I wanna come up for a jets game this year
  11. I would platoon him and Rosario.
  12. They can still sneak Berrios or anyone into the playoff roster even if they aren't on the 25 man roster on sept 1st. Santana getting suspended opens up a spot automatically as would any well timed "injury". Maybe Berrios can be our K Rod this postseason? I'd still prefer he starts though...
  13. Berrios should be starting opening day next year. Service time be damned, they already "saved" a year with Sano and Buxton, they can pay a few extra bucks for Berrios when the time calls for it.
  14. Do players/managers get fined every time they are tossed?
  15. I have been hard on Molitor in the past for getting tossed, but I think 100% he did the right thing in this case, it slows up the game and takes the closer out of his rhythm in that case. Also his bullpen management has looked much better as of late too... Now, if he could just stop playing Robinson 4 times a week things would be great!
  16. They need to find a way to trade one of Santana or Nolasco. One in the rotation isn't an issue. Two very much is. I would take shields here in a heartbeat.
  17. what part do you hail from?
  18. Give me a one game playoff against the Yankees instead of a 5 game series any day of the week. The Twins had leads late in the game each of the games this year at NYY and several times in the past at NYY in the playoffs, just takes one non choke to fix things. Toronto? Yikes, maybe Duffey could get his ultimate revenge and shut them down for a game
  19. The Twins have a ways to go obviously, but 0.5 games out...end of August...never too early to think about this. What is your ideal roster for the Twins for the playoffs: Mine: SP: Hughes SP:Gibson SP: Duffey SP: Milone Comments: Yikes. This rotation could be ugly if Hughes doesn't come back strong and Gibson can't figure it out overall. However, the upside isn't that bad, Hughes has the "stuff", Gibson has shown flashes and Milone/Duffey have both looked pretty damn good overall in the rotation. Wild Card: Berrios gets called up and dominates, takes the place of whichever pitcher is pitching the worst heading into the playoffs (prob the best case scenario for the Twins) CL: Perkins SU: Jepsen SU: May MRP/LOOGY:Cotts MRP: Fien MRP:Pelfrey LRP: Graham or Duensing or Boyer or whoever. Comments: I still maintain Pelf would be damn great in the pen. Maybe that makes me a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I feel "ok" about this pen potentially. Lineup: 1. Hicks RF 2. Mauer 1B 3. Sano DH 4. Dozier 2B 5. Plouffe 3B 6. Rosario LF 7. Buxton CF 8. Suzuki C 9. Escobar SS Comments: Looks like a winner to me. Bench: 1. Polanco UTIL INF/PR 2. Hunter PH 3. Pinto (PH/Emergency Catcher, you don't need a true "back up catcher" in the playoffs) 4. Kepler PH 5. Vargas/Santana/Robinson/whoever. Comments: Gotta have some BATS on the bench. Robinson really has no reason to be on the roster at that point, nor Nunez or Hermann. Get guys who can actually present a threat at the plate. Santana as the 25th guy could be the perfect "super UTIL" for anyone PH that then needs a D replacement.
  20. Right or wrong, I just don't think the Twins view Polanco as a SS option, now, maybe he would be a decent option, but the Twins track record of giving up on SS early and rolling with garbage is noting new. But I just don't see them giving him a real honest shot at "earning" the spot anytime soon.
  21. Also: Twinsnorth/GCTF, the Canadian dollar being weak is a bummer for you guys, but damn if it isn't a nice change of pace for coming north of the border for us Yanks!
  22. Off topic slightly, but IMO this shows that Toronto, Astros and The Yanks are near locks to make the playoffs. As far as the rest goes, I like kinda like our chances. 20-25%
  23. They can get to 87 but they just need two or three more boosts IMO of any of the following: 1. Mauer starts hitting lights out. 2. Berrios comes up and pitches well. 3. Hicks+Rosario+Buxton are the starting lineup within the next ten days and dominate. 4. Santana figures his **** out and pitches like a solid #2. 5. Perkins reverts to 2014 and 2015 first half form. I think the following are most likely: Mauer catches fire. Hicks+Buxton+Rosario as the everyday OF give the pitching staff a boost defensively and provide three dangerous players at the plate and baseraths. Perk comes back.
  24. Give me Garza and his contract over Nolasco or Santana at this point. He had a pretty solid 2014 and actually was looking halfway decent recently for the Brewers this year (last two starts, yikes)
  25. Santana isn't getting cut, and he isn't getting traded baring a miracle, the best hope is he figures out how to pitch again and at least can become a #3 or #4 type the rest of his contract. Personally, I would debate finding an injury and shutting him down and calling up Berrios. Go into 2016 with a clean slate and hope he figures it out a bit. The frustrating thing about Santana is his demeanor on the mound sucks, and his quotes after the Yankee game about "not watching tape and just throwing what he throws" shows a huge lack of accountability at best and incompetence at worst. Hopefully he was just upset a bit and can figure it out. The Twins can survive one bad pitching contract, but I am not sure they can survive two, one of Nolasco or Santana needs to prove to be a 200 IP #4 guy at the very very very least.
