  1. kate Fagan is an amazing writer and some of the best current talent ESPN has, I wish they would feature her more prominently then Around The Horn and espnw (which to be honest, most folks dont read) As to Murphy, he has at least seemed to "back off" his comments over the last year or so, at least he is showing a willingness to listen/potentially change.
  2. Well said, that all makes sense. I still think it's close to a "right" fwiw Pope Francis has pretty much all but said he is "cool" with it. Not to go off topic but he has been great for the church IMO
  3. Pelini was far too off the rails though, if he kept his temper in check even a little he would still be coaching at Nebraska. It's telling that he had to drop division 3 to find another gig
  4. Overall it's just another reason to be pumped as a Minnesota fan.Twins on the rise Vikes on the rise Wild solid as hell and on the rise IMO T Pups on the rise Gophers? Meh who cares
  5. perhaps "right" isn't the right word, but you get what I was saying. I still have yet to hear an argument in how gay marriage effects anyone "negatively"
  6. Good point, and I agree with the gist of what you are saying. IMO a person using religion as an "easy" excuse to discriminate against a class of people is an act of cowardness. I am a proud Catholic as is my immediate family and we all support it, my future wife and her family are Iranian and support it, and I have plenty of friends from every other religion that support it. Hiding behind a religion to discriminate against a group of people is just disgusting. At least come out and be honest and say you don't agree instead of hiding behind a couple open for interpretation passages from the bible etc
  7. totally him trying to save face, it's proven by the fact that he continues to double down on his opinions on the matter every chance he gets. See: political ad. I too hope he changes his stance, certainly there have been lots of people with even "stronger" takes on the matter that have changed their mind.
  8. By being against SSM you are saying they doesn't deserve the same rights as other people. Feel free to tell me how disallowing a segment of the population the RIGHT to marriage is somehow "equal rights" Call me a liar or misinformed all you want, but in this case I am neither.
  9. Know there are a few fans on these boards: What a dumpster fire this season has become, getting whooped by Purdue feels like rock bottom for this whole program. Does Reilly survive to get another shot next year? I say no, bring in frost if you can pull it off. Fwiw I agree with canning Pelini, that guy was a pyscho.
  10. So uh, this team looks good, Rubio looks so much better and Towns is an instant stud. Western is tough as nails, but I'd like to think the Wolves can make a run at the seed
  11. Grantland simply wasn't making nearly enough money (low page views) to make it worth ESPNs while, it sucks but most of the people who were let go will find work easily and are better off for having the platform to begin with. Simmons is annoying, he has a couple good ideas like: talent he brought on and 30 for 30 but just ruins all his good will with his petulant whining. Dude, ESPN Put you on the map and you made obcenes amount of monies, time to act like an adult.
  12. PHD in Economics wouldn't hurt as well, Obama had a nice background though as a community organizer, I liked Bill Clintons background as well, there is something to be said about someone "becoming" who they are on their own with out being born into it (trump, bush(w and jeb) etc)
  13. I don't think anyone is saying that Hunter wasn't a very good to great ball player. Most people are able to seperate the person from the work (i.e. Michael Jackson is a horrible person who should have been in jail, but he did make great music)
  14. Saying he wouldn't want to share a locker room with a gay teammate is extremely hateful. Telling people they don't deserve the same rights as another group of people is also hateful.
  15. Good lord, give me a break. The same people who have issues with Hunter are the same people who have issues with Daniel Murphy etc to act like hunter is somehow the victim of racism in this regard is just so off base. Fwiw I have never heard anyone call TJack a "tar baby" especially not at a twinsdaily owned site and definitely not BYTO. So I'm not sure what you are getting at here.
  16. At this point just give me someone other than Ryan. 1 out of 17 isn't a high bar, so id be good with just about any candidate who was under the age of 50 and/or willing to "evolve" with the game instead of hanging onto failed philosophies for way too long "i.e. pitch to contact" AA while not perfect at least has shown he can be aggressive when need be and has been some really key trades. Again my hope would be: Ryan to president New person to GM St Peter to PR for the Gophers Ryan still has plenty of value to the org, just not as the everyday GM IMO. St Peter? Never should have been prez in the first place, never should have kept his job with the Twins after the Cordova commercial debacle.
  17. Only if they bring in Ricky Henderson and Mark Derosa as well.
  18. No, all the criticism to Hunter has been 100% fair, he has doubled down time and time again on his stance and won't keep an open mind at all. He brings it upon himself, and frankly I hope he isn't a part of this org moving forward and takes a commentator role instead.
  19. What have the Twins done the last 20 years? One playoff series win. What have the Royals done the last 20 years? 4 playoff series wins and 2 world series appearances. Not even close. What has stayed the same in those 20 years? Terry Ryan (minus a few years of Bill Smith)
  20. Either way, give me the Royals last 20 years over the Twins last 20 years.
  21. Again, call me when they "do something" in the bigs. Mojecieshowski? He is a non prospect, 4.32 ERA in AAA then gets shelled at age 26 in the majors. I'm not trying to call you out or anything, I just think people get way too wrapped up in trading prospects when the majority of which never pan out or become average anyways. The Dickey trade definitely hurts though and will continue to hurt.
  22. I think Ryan as president and AA as the GM could be perfect, maybe a bit of Terry's conservatism rubs off on AA? Again, I like what he has done overall as a body of work, the Dickey trade however is a disaster and hard to ignore. Mainly why I like about him is that he was pretty young when he became a GM and still is young, IMO young GM's, coaches etc are much more likely to "change their ways" and adapt then the "old school guys" or at least they are willing to do it more quickly (see: how long it took the Twins to actually get into advanced stats, even now that department is behind and understaffed as most would agree)
  23. Make no mistake, Theo is still running the show in Chicago. They basically just overspent and got two quality guys. Oakland? Nope. Beane isn't making the personal calls anymore. The Twins should follow suit like the A's have done: "Promote" Ryan to President, sign a new GM who can "go for it" Send Dave St Peter and his cancer kid stadium advertising plan packing!
  24. Lol if you think that was a "true" promotion, yes, going from running the day to day show to not doing that anymore in basically a token front office role is a "promotion"
  25. I already said multiple times that the Dickey trade was bad. Call me when any of those other guys they traded away do anything in the majors, people get way too hung up on prospects.
