  1. I dunno about that, read on five thirty eight that general election voters don't like him very much at all.
  2. Yeah, I have been a believer in signing IMPACT players in free agency and then trust in your system to: 1. Create additional impact players. 2. Fill in the holes with average to good players. Spending money on #4 types like Nolasco, Hughes types or spending money on below average bats (Hunter) never made much sense to me seeing how the Twins system has plenty of guys who can give you similar results with saving a lot of coin. Again, with the money they spent on Nolasco+Hughes+Milone they could have signed nearly any ace over the past 2 seasons.
  3. Nobody is saying that. Most people are saying that if you are going to add it to payroll it should be split up over 4 years, or if you wanna put it all on the 2016 payroll, then I guess the Twins are saving 4 million a year for the following 3 years? Regardless, even if you wanna put the whole amount of 2016 payroll the Twins still have plenty of money they could send.
  4. I agree. The Twins are paying a lot of money to Milone+Hughes+Santana+Nolasco this year. Enough money where they could have signed almost any ACE in the game and still had enough left over to pay Santana as well. Cueto+Santana+Gibson+Duffey+May would be a nice looking rotation right about now....
  5. Good thing old man Carl conned the taxpayers to build that fancy new stadium to ensure the Twins would be competitive. 0 playoff game wins since Target Field opened. Bottom third payroll. I'm just glad it wasn't my tax dollars going towards it.
  6. I'm not sure they should hold Park's posting fee against the payroll this year (the full amount) if that is the case, then I sure hope he provides 16+ million worth of value... $106 million is pathetic, even with the extra 4 million from Parks posting fee (pro rated) This team should be in the 120-130 mil range, no doubt.

    Nunez

Other than a very luck driven first half, it's hard to say Nunez did anything well, he reverted to his sub .700 ops self very quickly.

    Nunez

You act like I am saying they need someone who can just PH and PH only, fwiw when you have Suzuki playing the majority of the games, you prob should have an option to PH for him nearly every single game. Nunez frankly can't do anything well, give me the 25th bench guy with a guy who can at least do a thing or two wel (i.e. Elite PR type, a bat, or someone who can field well) in reality Nunez should be PH for no one, is worse than everyone for INF defense and isn't that fast. A Jarrod Dyson type makes sense as your 25th type, Nunez? Nope. Especially when you already have a util guy on your roster in Santana. Escobar/Sano/Plouffe/Dozier should be playing nearly every day anyways, you don't need Nunez at all. Santana can pick up the slack for a start or two a week.

    Nunez

Santana has a lot more upside at SS and overall then Nunez.

    Nunez

The problem is the small bench size the twins employ. If Sano actually is going to be playing in the OF then it is imperative the Twins have a legit 4th OF on the bench (Santana and Arcia are not these things) backup catcher takes up another spot. So your last guy ends up being Nunez? The only way keeping him around makes sense is if Plouffe is traded, even then I would like to aim just a tad higher then what Nunez is bringing to the table.

    Nunez

    110% this
  12. DaveW

    Nunez

He has a negative lifetime WAR. That indicates that he is a below replacement level player. His uzr was a short sample size last year, check out his overall numbers....
  13. DaveW

    Nunez

    They actually owe him 20%
  14. Why exactly are we giving this guy a 25 man roster space again? Lifetime WAR of -0.6 Life UZR/150 of -24.1 at SS -29.1 at 3B -12.4 at 2B (yes those are all negative and very poor) lifetime sub .700 OPS Can't hit. Can't field. Not Fast.
  15. Seems fair. Small enough where if he struggles we can cut him quickly, small enough where if he pitches well but the youngsters step up we can trade him for an asset hopefully.
  16. Fangraphs for one....
  17. He's perfectly fine as a #4/#5 type, but the twins have those guys in spades (many of which have upside to become even better) Seems to be perfect trade bait to me, hopefully someone bites after an injury or two happens in spring trainingx
  18. The Royals also had 6 guys in their lineup who had OPS+ of 120 or greater (The Twins had one) The Royals also had byfar the most dominant bullpen in baseball (the Twins ranked near the botton) Nunez had a luck driven first half, followed by a second half that matched his career norms (.692 OPS) all the while playing poor defense overall across the board.
  19. Zero range, not a good arm. Every advanced stat backs this up as well.
  20. The Grizzlies are in Memphis currently, which isn't a bad place to have a sports team to be honest. The Jets moving to Phoenix never made sense to me.
  21. The North Stars move was so much worse because Norm Green literally moved the team because he couldn't keep his dick in his pants. His wife threatened to leave him unless he left Minnesota, so he moved the team to Dallas. That is just so freaking sad and pathetic, then of course Dallas eventually wins a cup.GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  22. Sano has played 3B at the major league level...how many 3B do you need on the major league roster anyways? If Nunez is your starting 3B at any point then the season is more or less over anyways. But settling for replacement level players like Nunez is just more "settling for mediocrity", so sadly none of this is shocking in the least. It's decisions like these compounded over two decades that get you one playoff series win in 17 seasons (20+ if you count the Smith years)
  23. Here is the problem with that: Nunez is absolutely terrible at SS and 3rd base and below average at LF/RF/2b. He should also not be pinch hitting, he has a sub .700 OPS. In his 6 seasons combined he has a whopping combined WAR of 0.3 (negative 0.6 if you wanna use fangraphs). You shouldn't be giving replacement level guys guaranteed roster spots/contracts, the Twins could sign any number of guys who can give you what Nunez does. Santana can easily put up the same value Nunez does, as could a dozen other guys.
  24. I still am perplexed why they offered Nunez arb. Giving him a roster spot and losing at least one of Vargas, Arcia or Santana seems like a huge mistake.
  25. 4.5, not bad. Makes Milone even more valuable in a trade now.
