  1. Ok, Ok I will finally come clean, even though I am not in the Twins FO I have been in baseball operations for other clubs and am now a TV personality on MLB Network. That's right, I am Mark DeRosa.
  2. Can we please not derail this thread which actually has a lot of good discussion going on in it? Nobody cares, nor needs to care about posters specific financial background/educational background etc This is a TWINS message board, there are plenty of other forums to discuss financial topics. Nobody has suggested that the Pohlad's shouldn't make money, nor has anyone suggested the Twins need to spend an absurd amount of money on payroll. I haven't seen one person throw out a number larger than 130 million. Most are suggesting the Twins spend a bit more (10-15% more) on payroll (or spend the payroll differently) people can disagree, which is 100% fine, but let's stop the "I am going to say I am smarter than you/everyone, so therefore your arguments and stances are invalid" nonsense.
  3. To be fair, it would be very foolhardy NOT to give Plouffe a contract, he is a very solid contributor for any ballclub he would be on. The argument in regards to Plouffe is whether or not the Twins should trade him and open up 3B for Sano. While I am not a fan of the Suzuki contract and others, there was absolutely no reason not to keep Plouffe around at this stage.
  4. I forgot all about that, I guess I blocked those painful memories That makes sense though, thanks for the correction.
  5. Good results in 14 no doubt, but he was very lucky with an unsustainable BABIP (.211) and LOB% (89%). His FIP and xFIP (3.25 and 3.64) weren't bad, but that isn't pretty good for a "specialist". Career ERA of 3.78, career FIP of 4.38, career xFIP of 4.28. Nothing about this seems inspiring at all to be honest, his upside/realistic expectations is a mediocre LOOGY IMO, and we saw what his floor was from 2015...
  6. It's called pro-choice. I don't recall him saying anything of the sort about him always being a Democrat. Can you please shoot me a link to your source on this?
  7. I agree with this, unfortunately it is too early to cut Nolasco, but damn I would love to see them try to ship him and 50% of his salary off to some sucker! On the other side though, I think the Twins have waited too long to cut bait on certain guys in the last year of their contracts. I get not cutting a guy with multiple years left, but when a guy is in his last (or only) season on his contract, then I think they should be much more aggressive in cutting bait when there are clearly better options behind them (Pelfrey comes to mind) but to give the Twins credit they have cut bait on Stauffer and Kubel somewhat early the past couple years.
  8. Fortunately for the Twins, April games only count as 50% much as August and September games!
  9. Good point, I'm also curious on just how much suite revenue really is at the end of the day. In my expirence suites are generally "owned"/"given" to major advertising and other business partners of the team. (Single game suites are still used by families, parties, corporations, etc no doubt) but the majority seem to be included for said partners, so i wonder how much additional money they actually do bring in at the end of the day. No doubt its a good amount and at the very least it makes it much more appealing to being an advertising partner with the Twins when you can bring your own company, clients, whoever and sit in premium seating. Also, I will give them this, Target Field as a whole was magnificently done.
  10. But he isn't a good pitcher. Good pitchers don't get cut over 1.5 million dollars. The only team that cuts good players (Ortiz) over 1.5 million is our beloved Twins! Listen, I think you did a great job as always on your article and your breakdown, it's just a shame you have to do it on such a non factor guy like Abad instead of someone with upside that the Twins could have brought in.
  11. Here is some insight (toss money out of the equation) Abad is not and never has been a good pitcher, his velocity is down. Bastardo, Sipp and countless others are good pitchers. The Twins had a shaky bullpen last season that cost them numerous games and potentially a playoff spot. Now their biggest "move" to fix that is to hope that they can "fix" a guy with a career 4.23 FIP out of the pen? Sorry if I'm not buying my 2016 world series ticket because of this news. If they wanted a reclamation project they should go after someone with some actual upside, not Abad.
  12. It's just more proof in Ryan (and the org as a whole) stubbornness to change. For whatever reason they always have to be the last one into the pool when it comes to any sort of obvious change of strategy. Sorta like how in 2016 they have finally decided to look for power and have only recently started trying to draft high upside hard throwers.
  13. Abad was never that good to begin with and he has mediocre velocity these days, good lord, it's not like they are trying to "fix" a Johan Santana or Cliff Lee and return them to stardom. They are trying to fix a guy whose upside is a 6th inning MRP. Its embarrassing that LaVelle would even report on such a non story, instead of focusing on why TR, the Pohlads and company seemingly refuse to spend any amount of real money to fix an obviously shaky bullpen.
  14. What a swell guy, literally using veterans to shield his cry baby antics.
  15. Doing some great work. You and vanimal are the MVPs of this thread, shoot me some dates you want a pair of Twins tickets for (not opening day) and I will shoot them your way.
  16. Revenue? I dunno. The Dome was bad for expenses since the Twins/Pohlads didn't own it, correct? They had to pay rent? Do the Twins pay rent at Target Field? (I honestly don't know)
  17. Niang will go in the first round.
  18. The Twins decide against trading for Ardolis Chapman...
  19. Front line starting pitcher, legit major league catcher, bullpen. Just to name a few....when the Royals were in this scenario they went out and traded for James Shields, then traded for Cueto and Zobrist a year later....the Twins go out and sign some minor leauge free agents!
