  1. Even if this were true, this suggestion misses what needs to be the point. Where is the highest return on making room for Arcia? Replacing somebody who has under performed in the first 13 games is off base. Making room for somebody who may have earned a promotion and at the same time getting young talent to help in the future are what is important. Arcia could be in LF if Willingham is traded and he could be in RF is Mourneau is traded and Parmalee goes to first. Parmalee is doing just fine in RF and I think he should stay in the line up. This will be exciting to watch unfold as the season continues.
  2. What a great thread. John Sickels, Madre Dos and the Usual Suspects are all represented. Last week Cody Christie posted a write up called Wet Wednesday in the Minors and it prompted me to look at Pinto again because it seemed strange that Hermmann and Rohlfing get some attention when he does not. At 5'11" and 230 he must be quite and athlete to be able to move quickly enough. I hope he continues to develop. It would not surprise me to see Doumit go via trade when a team has injury holes to fill.
  3. Its tough to be original after 70 comments so here goes. I think he should stay long enough to give Ramirez the leave he needs and then go back. Address centerfield with centerfielders. Let him go back to killing it and playing everyday at AAA. When they trade Mourneau and/or Willingham midseason then space will be made and he can come back for good. Whatever they do they should not cut into parmalees normal amount of ABs.
  4. A nice thing I see is that if his performance merits going to AA before the end of this summer, it is not like the fielding is harder. The pitching he will see will jump in quality but the grounders will not come any harder.
  5. I need to come to the next happy hour just to see you people interact face-to-face without throwing hands. Maybe the TD staff will rent one of those Sumo rings so you all can safely kick the crap out of each other.
  6. Why does Josmil Pinto not draw more attention? His line last year between Ft. Myers and NB was .295/.362/.844. He hit 14 homeruns and only played in 117 games. He is 24 and still in AA so that is a minor knock but some develop later. Hermson and Rohlfing have gotten some attention lately without super impressive numbers. It seems strange that Pinto would not grab more attention. The twins seem to have locked into at catcher, FB, DH rotation which I like because it seems to keep folks healthy and keep their bats active in the lineup. For next season could he be a solid contender to take the part the Doumit currently plays. Doumit could be a valuable trade piece this year if a front running team has a catching need. Thoughts anybody?
  7. I have not been able to watch all the games. How many SOs have been looking and how many swinging? For me it is a interesting situation because it really tests you as a educated baseball fan. We all know his history and one year of better performance last year does not change all that. Then he comes in to spring and tears it up and marketing hype starts to happen and I forget about historical data for a moment. That said, we are 3 games into a very long season and that is a really small sample and his strike outs are nothing to freak out about. I agree that the Torii Hunter rookie numbers would be nice as long as the defense continues and his plate discipline continues to develop. He is a leadoff hitter who needs to do whatever he can to get on base. StormJH1- please go to the MLB/Twins site and find the footage of Hicks. In ST he made a running catch in deep right center and threw a pea to first base to double up the runner. It was nullified by a balk or an interference call but that does not change the fact that the throw was awesome! It was on a line and shows off the cannon you talked about. We have not seen an arm like that in few years and I psyched for the first attempt he has for a put out at home or third when a runner tags. I am excited to have him in CF.
  8. See above posts about Rosario, Sano and Berrios. You will ruin them. Go easy and let them show they should be there. It has been proven that sink or swim does not work because if they sink it is very hard to resurface.
  9. I feel they will take last but this will be an improved year. This is just from the hip...offense and defense. And, i am including call ups and shifts that I believe will happen due to trades. Lf..same. Cf..same def and better offense. Rf worse defense but better offense. 3b..better defense and better offense due to improved discipline. Ss..same. 2b.. Better offense and same defense. 1b same defense and improved offense. Catcher..same. Pitching is a wild card. I dont feel they will be as bad to start as last yeat. 74 wins...last place.
  10. I like this post. Thank you. I like the forward thinking and for that reason I am watching the trade bait situations. It will make me sad but they are reality and healthy for the team. It will be successful if they Twins can make 2 mid-season trades for some prospects. That could be Mourneau, Parmalee, Willingham, Doumit, Carroll, etc. Who knows who could go but if they do that means they had a good first half and it made them attractive to other teams. We will get to have fun watching them while we can, hopefully TR can get some good returns to help '14 and beyond, and it will open doors for some younger players to get MLB playing time.
  11. I can't believe I am going to give this subject any time. Shame on me. Please just look at these stats. 2012: Rangers (2nd in OBP, 6th in HR) 2011: Red Sox (1st in OBP, 3rd in HR) 2010: Yankees (1st in OBP, 3rd in HR) 2009: Yankees (1st in OBP, 1st in HR) 2008: Rangers (2nd in OBP, 6th in HR) 2007: Yankees (1st in OBP, 4th in HR) 2006: Yankees (1st in OBP, 5th in HR) 2005: Red Sox (1st in OBP, 6th in HR) 2004: Red Sox (1st in OBP, 5th in HR) 2003: Red Sox (1st in OBP, 2nd in HR) 2002: Yankees (1st in OBP, 2nd in HR) 2001: Mariners (1st in OBP, 18th in HR) Those are the top run scoring teams year by year. As you can see, OBP is a more important stat than Homeruns. Have a nice day.
  12. Parmalee's presence behind Plouffe may protect him a bit more also. Teams may be forced to at him more directly than they want to because there is a little more power behind him in the order than last year.
  13. I think this topic is the key to his offense in '13. I could not believe how they kept pitching him the same way last year during his tear and he kept killing the ball. Having developed a book on him, I am sure they will come at him differently this year. I hope to see more doubles to the Right-center gap because he will receive that type of pitching. If he keeps his cool, stays disciplined and drives those pitches then we will know we have something special. Valencia never got that concept and now he is exploring other opportunities. I think Trevor is up for the challenge.
  14. Thank you Parker. I enjoyed this article. Last night against the DR, Mauer got to 2-1 and ripped hard at a pitch. Love that. The announcer keyed on it. I will happily take his stats year over year with only one small addition. When you get to one of those counts, take a bit cut. Why not? Last night he missed but other times he will not. Later in the at bat he hit a sharp single up the middle. It was a nice AB.
  15. If I am not mistaken the Angels kept Trout back last year for this very reason and he is now the best player in the MLB according to a recent list. Hicks is NOT Trout but I think there it is crazy to not believe that one year in his prime far outweighs one month of this season. There is no question that he should go to Rochester.
  16. To be fair, I am being a bit emotionally driven myself. Let me explain. My contention is that adding any hitter to this squad who has no chance of being on the team in the future seems crazy to me. I get the Thome thing and your statement makes sense. I just don't see why they would not want to try and give another some mlb at bats before adding Thome. Colabello? At least he has some chance of a future or maybe if he hits then we could trade him for something. I love Thome. I just don't see the point.
  17. How do folks chastise the Twins for Correa and then ask for Thome? Emotions need to be set aside. It would be a horrible business decision for the future. No, please no.
  18. I agree completely. I understand that we are anxious but there is no way that his effect on the Twins from opening day to Mid May weighs more than having him for another year of team control. My apologies because the topic is beat to death...I could not help it.
  19. I am pleased to log in at this point and not see folks advocating for Thome. A player like that has no place on this team with what they have in front of them. To have Thome in the Twins org as a coach and/or player advisor going forward would be great. Who does not love Jim Thome? Unfortunately that has nothing to do with it.
  20. I was out towards stillwater yesterday and the reception was not great. Last year I bought the mlb at bat app for my phone and really enjoyed it. You can listen to the game on it from anyplace you have a data signal. It is 15.00 well spent and it is the regular broadcast. FYI- Dave St. Peter is @TwinsPrez on Twitter. He is active on it and very receptive. I'll bet he would appreciate you reporting your experience to him if that persists. They did not switch stations to lose listeners.
  21. Having listened to the BA podcast about the top 100 I had to come back to this. Manuel made a point to go right to Arcia. I don't have the quote verbatim but he said that this is a prototypical right fielder. The only thing he does not have is blazing speed and that when the Twins are good again it will be largely because of Arcia. Love it.
  22. I am very interested to see how Josmil Pinto does this year. It seems that he would start the year at AA and his #s were good last year. At 24 when the year begins he may be getting a bit old. There is no reason to think the Doumit will be around for the rest of his contract. That second catcher (the one who can hit) will be up in the air.
  23. What do folks expect if he won't come here for a good value deal? Please look at the chart in the article at Puckett's Pond called, "The Minnesota Twins and Their Ongoing Starting Pitching Saga." If the Twins signed Saunders to a multi-year deal we are looking at a potential log jam that gets in the way of younger pitchers getting the shot they need to grow. Everybody agrees that Correa was poor move so let’s not make another one. I wish they had signed better SP in this offseason but that does not mean panic and make bad deals. If they offered Saunders somewhere in the area of 7-9 million for one year and he turned it down then I am content with that. Let him go and go ahead with what we have. It is going to be a challenging year; I don’t think Saunders would have made that big of a difference.
  24. Why not? I don't know about 500 but i think there will be improvement. I am excited to see cf workout, to see parmalee get 500 ABs, at the hope that Mauer and Morneau get off to solid beginnings instead of struggling, to see Meyer and Arcia get call ups, and to watch the first time a sac fly happens and a runner challenges the arm of Aaron Hicks. Lets get this season started.
