  1. I agree with Seth, just because he was an in house guy doesn't mean he's Gardy. In fact I've read that Molitor was like the Black Sheep of that clubhouse because he had a different mentality than Gardy and his guys. They are not the same and we shouldn't lump them together like that. The other point about an ace is a good one but Bumgarner is an unfair comparison. He just got done dominating a World Series like we've literally never seen before. He singlehandedly won that series and he is one of the top 5 pitchers in all of Baseball. Every team in the majors would love to have a guy like that on their team but they don't exactly grow on trees. Plus the argument doesn't really hold up with anyone else. Remember that Philly's rotation a few years back that was supposed to dominate everyone, didn't exactly work out. One of the best pitchers in the majors this year was Yu Darvish and his team almost was the worst in MLB. I agree that Starting pitching is important and an ace is important as well but history suggests that it's not the only thing
  2. I have a good feeling about this year, maybe not playoffs good feeling but the next step, 2016 is our year. I fell like we resign Neshek and in 2016 we have a shut down 7, 8, and 9 of Burdi, Neshek, and Perkins. I agree that Gibson becomes our ace. I think Mauer will actually take a step forward, after another year removed from his concussion he will pick things back up just like Morneu did, I just hope it's not for another team. Plus his salary was already made up in Jersey sales and marketing, he's still the hometown hero and he is still the most popular player to casual fans. I disagree with Pinto as well, Suzuki is not a long term solution and he's getting older, they'll take the lesson learned from trading Ramos and hesitate to do it again.
  3. I'm concerned about the bench bats in your scenario, you would have Shafer, Hicks, Hermann, and Pinto as bench bats and Pinto is the only semi power threat. I wouldn't trust any of those guys in a PH situation
  4. My biggest question is: what's happening in that picture? Is the ball coming or going? Was that a barehand catch?
  5. Either way I would like to see both of these guys on the major league staff, either as manager/1st or 3rd base coach/hitting instructor (only in Molitor's case)
  6. I vote for whoever is the Pirate's pitching coach, they seem to be doing well with former Twins
  7. I'm going to the Twins/Astros game in Houston on Monday and I'm super excited that I don't have to watch Correia. Every Twins game I've seen the past few years has featured Correia getting blown up and I was kinda depressed seeing him as the scheduled starter on Monday. This is the best news I've heard in a while!
  8. Can we get the link to Twins MLBtraderumors.com back? I liked that
  9. I have to admit, so far I'm extremely pleased that I was completely wrong about this guy. I didn't think he'd hit and I compared him to Tim Beckham. Please forgive me Nick! I hope his success continues!
  10. one thing of note is that in each of our championship years (87 and 91) we had 4 impact bats and all of our playoff years we only had 3, in the drought years we mostly only had 1 or 2.....interesting
  11. This is exciting, if he was the youngest in the FSL how far apart in age do you think he will be in AA from his competition? Does anyone have info on this?
  12. I think your players of the day are outdated, Mildren didn't pitch today
  13. I was under the impression that his ranking was due to the injury. He was mocked in the first round until the medicals came out and I believe he had a strong commitment to USC which made him a hard and risky sign, he's looked pretty good so far
  14. What if we had gone Buxton, Berrios, and Ruiz instead of Bard? Ruiz Signed for 1.85 million and Bard's slot was 1.23 million, we could have gone over slot for Ruiz with the $ we saved from Buxton's signing and still gotten Walker in the 3rd. I hated the Bard pick at the time and still do, we should've gone high upside at that point. Although the guy I wanted was Mitch Brown who has largely been terrible for the Indians who picked him up so there's that...
  15. Actually Walker was our 6th pick that year, our first 3 was Buxton, Berrios, and Bard
  16. The first time I saw Appel on youtube and he was the consensus #1 pick I didn't get it. I saw a guy with no movement on his FB and he gave up way too many hits. I thought he could maybe develop into a solid pitch to contact #2 with a floor of a #5 guy. He didn't seem to overwhelm hitters in college but I didn't think he'd be this bad. I'm glad we dodged that bullet for sure
  17. The Astros would never have had a shot at Berrios, he was picked before McCullers so yes he was a good one but invalid to the debate. The Twins definitely came out on top as it looks now but if the Astros took Buxton they would have had at least 1.2 million less to work with so they may have not took the risk with McCullers and definitely not Ruiz so who knows who they would have ended up with, maybe they would have spared us from Bard! The other thought is that we could have played the draft cautiously after Buxton and Berrios because we were unsure of how much $ we would have after those two, maybe that's why we ended up with all of those relievers to save money.........or we just have some weird fixation on college relievers
  18. The thing that is blatantly ignored in this debate is the fact that Correa was picked over Buxton for money saving reasons. We can debate who is the better prospect now or who is going to be better in the future, that's fine but it's hard to argue with the Astros strategy in that draft. I would think that they knew that Correa was an inferior prospect (by how much I don't know) and by selecting Correa they were able to get Ruiz and McCullers. So really we should debate if the net of Correa, McCullers, and Ruiz is better than Buxton plus inferior prospects. I'm not really sure, all of that depends on if Ruiz and McCullers pan out and how good Buxton and Correa are. I think Buxton will be the better player long term but by how much?
  19. I was talking more in terms of bat, speed, bloodlines, I said a SS version. I've never heard of DeShields having makeup concerns. I feel like Gordon's gonna be a .270ish hitter with decent on base and speed and just ok power (around 10 hrs a year). DeShields is pretty much that with probably better speed but not the defensive skills as Gordon
  20. BTW, Gordon reminds me of Delino DeShields Jr. Who can play good SS, is that a good comp bat wise?
  21. I'm excited for Berrios, I have to admit in the draft I was upset we passed on Lance McCullers for him (although Lance has been good we couldn't afford him that year) but it's turning out to be a great pick. If they all keep going the way their going think of a rotation in 4 years of Meyer, Stewart, Berrios, May, and Gibson.......the future looks bright
  22. I think anything over $100,000 costs against their bonus pool if I'm not mistaken
  23. After Jeremy's 10 round mock I said "not enough relief pitcher" I was clearly joking based on the Twins drafts in the past. Apparently the Twins read the boards and listened to me......I'm really sorry everyone, I accept full responsibility
  24. So rounds 2-6 we have 2 definite relievers and 3 maybe starters but could end up relievers? Eh, not too bad, I wish we would get some position players though or high upside high schoolers although those guys rarely amount to much if they sign
