  1. I've been pretty high on Freeland over the past couple of weeks after some amature YouTube scouting. I would be ecstatic with him at #5.
  2. Actually if you watch the tape (from college) they have similar a delivery and their "stuff" is similar, yes Zimmer is a better athlete but that's not a huge issue for pitchers. I see Freeland with more control, an extra pitch, and not quite the top end velocity. The slider and change are very similar. That's just my observations though
  3. I'm intrigued by Kyle Freeland, he's shooting up draft boards and shutting down opponents. What he's doing reminds me a lot of Kyle Zimmer a few years ago (interestingly the 5th pick that year and also a Kyle). After doing some YouTube scouting he reminds me a lot of a left handed Zimmer with an extra 2 seamer. Anyone have any thoughts on him? On a side note think about if we had drafted Zimmer and took Freeland this year, then in a few years we would have had the killer Kyles (Gibson, Zimmer, and Freeland), that would have been fun......
  4. It's pronounced Char-gwah, or at least that's how the rice announcers here in Houston pronounced it...
  5. After starting the season on the 7 day DL, JT is in Elizabethton an has made 4 appearances not allowing a hit or a run and striking out 4, his WHIP is 0.69, good start so far
  6. I know won't get Bundy but in reality you shouldn't ex players off the list just because they are 3 years away, that was my point.
  7. Unless that guy is Dylan Bundy.....
  8. Have you guys heard where Chargois is going to be assigned?
  9. Neil Ramirez was drafted in 2007 not 2003. But I like that the rangers have a lot of good pitching prospects, they seem like a good trading partner. Span for a few good pitching prospects would be nice.
  10. Jonathan Thomas Chargois Born: 12/3/90 (21 years old) 6'3" 200 lb From: Sulpher, LA College: Rice Chargois is the 1Bat Rice as well as the Co-Closer(with fellow Twins pick Tyler Duffy) but he will pitch in the majors. Most think he is a closer type but I'm betting the Twins try him as a starter. He has a jerky wind up and almost a side arm action that somewhat resembles Pat Neshek. His fastball is said to be up to 98mph and is his best pitch. MLB.com has his second pitch to be a spiked curve and all others report a slider. I'm gonna go with a slider. One site(I can't remember or find it) said he had one of the best sliders in the draft and ESPN says that it is "almost comical" how it drops off. I would absolutely love this pick if Mitch Brown wasn't on the board at the time. He could be a future closer. http://www.riceowls.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/chargois_jt00.html http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=20930861
  11. Thanks for posting that, I'm really excited for Michael. He looks to be a really good one, I hope his success continues.
  12. there is another thread on him. I've heard reports that he's around 94-95 with his fast ball. I would say he's a really good reliever prospect for whatever that's worth. He's put up great numbers this year and I hope it continues. Being a reliever his prospect rankings will top out somewhere between 20-25 but if his numbers continue to be great and he becomes a legitimate closer prospect he could jump around 15. Right now I see him as a very good set up man.
  13. There is a ballpark battle over on ESPN.com. We are in the final 8 but are currently getting beaten by Camden Yards. We need to get over there and vote! http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8074116/battle-ballparks-elite-8-vote-mlb-best
  14. Congrats Michael, I hope for more of the same
  15. Johan Santana's Change is still pretty nasty....
  16. http://twinstrivia.com/2012/06/17/twins-minor-league-player-of-the-week-16/ I'm with you guys, how does a 22 year old dominating at low A not get a promotion? This organization needs to show these kids that they have faith in them or else no one will want to play for us. I always wonder if we had a player like Bryce Harper or Trout would they be stuck in Fort Meyers or AA right now? Probably...
  17. It all depends on the return. Technically anyone on our roster is "for sale" it just depends on what the other team is willing to depart with. I don't know their prospects too well, anyone have any guesses as to who we could get back?
  18. It's unlikely since he's primarily been used as a reliever his whole career. I haven't seen a whole lot of video on him since high school but he's added significant velocity which tells me he's started using a max effort delivery. It's possible but highly unlikely.
  19. *pitchers not pitches
  20. You have to expect diamond and Walters to come back down to earth, even if just a little bit. but diamond(much less anyone) can't be expected to keep up the rediculous stats that he's posted. Walters may be a good find but he's just not as good as he's showed, he will definately settle into more of a back of the rotation type. I want to believe in these guys but in reality the rotation you posted is a bunch of #4 starters and the only FA pitches that are above a #3 are gonna be way too expensive for us and we don't usually roll like that. You can put a tux on poo but it's still poo. You can't expect a fan base to buy into that rotation.
  21. If that's the roster it means they don't want to sell tickets. It would be one FA pitcher upgrade over what we have now and depending on the FA that's not going to make much of a difference. If the fan base sees a poor team this year and there is not much of an upgrade common sense tells me that fans will see no reason to keep going. Every team must provide some sort of hope at the beginning of the year for the fan base to gather around, that's just basic sports business.
  22. Sounds like an 80-90 loss team to me, poor defense, mediocre pitching, and a decent but not overwhelming lineup. Sounds like the rangers for most of last decade. I don't really have a better proposition for next year but it's not looking good either way unless we spend some $ on pitching or trade willingham for someone who will be an ace. It looks to me like either way we're playing for 2014
  23. I hope he will hurt opposing pitchers with his speed on the bases! Sorry, someone had to do it...He's gonna be a great addition to our farm system and to pun lovers like me.
  24. Michael has been elected to the Midwest league All-Star game! Much of the same recently although he is racking up more strikeouts these days. His ERA is steady at 1.62 with 41 Ks in 33.1 innings, he also has 4 saves.
