    Twins purchased the contract of C Chris Herrmann from Double-A New Britain. He'll provide some depth while Joe Mauer (back) and Ryan Doumit (oblique) are nursing injuries. Herrmann, 24, batted .276/.350/.392 with 10 homers and a .741 OPS in 127 games at the Double-A level this year.

    Francisco Liriano will be skipped in the rotation Friday following Thursday's rainout. Liriano was expected to return from the bullpen to start Friday against the Twins, but the rainout will allow the White Sox to skip him altogether.
