  1. I agree with this. He will be a Twin for life. And that's what he wants, and that fine. It hasn't been a terrible contract. But the idea of building a contending team around Buxton is beyond ludicrous. He's just not going to be available at crunch time. He never has been and he never will be. It's how it works. It's a sad footnote to an otherwise promising career.
  2. Cold hard reality. No, they're not interested in winning. But even the few times they've indicated they might be curious about winning have come with the quick realization that the brains aren't there to make it happen. MN sports have all kinds of sad tales, but there's not a team in this state less committed to excellence than the Twins.
  3. "He finished 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI, a stolen base, two runs scored and two walks." Yeah, but Zoll really thought he should have snuck himself back into the on-deck circle and gone 5-for-3 with a few more home runs. Clearly not Major League ready.
  4. This organization hasn't been serious about this for 35 years. They don't even have the foggiest idea of how a team in this market could make this happen, despite being given examples as close as Cleveland, and Milwaukee.
  5. I've given up on the idea that there's a "plan" in place to increase the value of this team. Tom Pohlad clearly wanted to change the "talk" surrounding the team but not the actions. This is still a low-payroll organization, still very risk-averse and still suppressing the service time of top prospects. A sub-.500 team that's out of the WC hunt by Labor Day is not going to bring fans back, nor will it increase revenue, especially with a huge work stoppage looming. If anything, Tom has already fallen into the trap of overpromising and underdelivering. Almost nothing turns off customers more than that.
  6. Like an old alley cat, I think they've finally spent their ninth life. It's over.
  7. Now I finally know who to blame: Gelman and the Gooch. Amon Gelman and Jack Boners won't get another dime from me!
  8. "It also reinforces the idea that the Twins don't view Jenkins's current Triple-A assignment as a punishment or a sign that they don't believe he's ready. They may simply believe he needs more time." <<blinks eyes>> Isn't the belief that "he needs more time" the literal definition of the phrase "we don't believe he's ready." What else is the "more time" for? To enjoy the lovely St. Paul skyline a bit longer? But don't worry. This is practically the same doublespeak as Pohlad saying this team is in "win-now" mode while letting Zoll suppress the service time of players who could help the team win now. He might scuffle. He might not play everyday, But he is clearly the organization's best prospect, absolutely raking at a time when this offense is losing a bit of its first-half mojo. I just don't get it. I don't.
  9. He needs to hit a ball in St. Paul and have it land in Minneapolis. Otherwise, the Twins FO isn't impressed.
  10. I've been on rollercoasters that have had fewer downs and ups than this ballclub. Good gosh. The only consistent so far is that the harder I am in my critiques of them and the more sure I am of their utter demise in the standings, the more they starting punching their way back into the hunt. So, I will say this again: THIS TEAM STINKS AND WILL WIN NOTHING! NOTHING, I TELL YOU!!!
  11. A rebuild year could have answered many - if not all - of these questions. They're gonna enter the offseason with even more question marks then they left the 2025 season with. What a waste.
  12. In a word: no. There is no fan base for this team as it is. They put all of their chips in, all for announced crowds of 21K and actual crowds of about 12K. 25th ranked attendance in MLB, and yet they play in a top 5 ballpark. The only thing that will increase the fanbase is winning a championship. The only thing that wins a championship is fielding an elite team. The only way for a midmarket team to field an elite team is through elite prospects. The only way to get elite prospects is to build a vision for short-term pains and long-term gains. Overhaul scouting and development. Take lumps. Trade when at an advantage. Strengthen and grow. None of this is rocket science. I don't know why so many fans reject it. Is it foolproof? Nope. Pirates have managed to screw up this process several times. But there is absolutely no path to a championship for a middling .500 club that continues to nibble at the fringes of the roster year after year after year. None.
  13. My fault. I was also referring to the costs of not having traded Jeffers, Lopez, Ryan and Buxton last offseason.
  14. They've played .500 ball for, what, four games this year? Lots of carts being put in front a lot of horses. It's not going to happen.
  15. That's a beautiful dream, friend. i won't burst that bubble for you. Sadly, the team will do that for you soon enough.
  16. This. Exactly this. We'll never know exactly what the lost opportunities were this season, but I'm certain that the prospect value alone lost by "going for it" this year will haunt this team through at least 2030.
  17. Spoiler alert: the season-defining stretch already happened. It was the last nine games.
  18. It's over. A bit of poetry from the baseball gods that it was our former closer who slammed the door. I like that they tried proving us skeptics wrong for awhile there. That was fun.
  19. I think the bigger concern for a Pohlad is that the season is cut short by 30+ games but the MLBPA successfully negotiates for full salary payouts for the season.
  20. Hey, Joe Benson has 17 MLB hits under his belt. Walker Jenkins has zero. Jenkins stinks.
  21. I'm totally confused. Does this team see itself in a WC race? Then why would you ever choose to not put your best talent on the field? We're not talking about a hasty AA promotion here. This is a top-tier prospect at the last rung of the minor leagues. And how is Jenkins being denied MLB service time possibly better for him? I no longer see this team in a WC race, so I guess any number of explanations for keeping him down to manipulate service time or hope for some weird ROY draft pick to materialize could make sense. That's the patented Twins Way. Nibble your way to occasional fringe success. But we've been told by ownership that there's a new spirit of "winning now" in the air. This team is struggling to score more than a run or two. Why would you ever leave a weapon on the shelf in the heat of a fight? And why would/should the fans support this?
  22. There is no way that this organization will extend a QO to Jeffers. I think Gleeman even reported that he's hearing internally that that's probably a no-go. They simply will not risk spending that kind of money, especially with the prospect of a shortened or lost season. Jeffers will walk for nothing.
  23. This seems plausible. And yet I can see this provision being scrapped in 2027 after a long work stoppage. And the Twins will have held down Jenkins for nothing.
  24. You realize a rebuild takes more than a half season to bear fruit, right? Come 2028, it might have worked out perfectly if they had finished the job they started. The problem was - and is - their unwillingness to commit to a rebuild.
