    So, are you assuming one of Arcia and Kreidler is a lock? I think Austin Martin is a lock and it's a three-way competition for the backup infielder role.

    Agreed. The infield depth is paper thin. Lewis is a key guy, as are Lee and Wallner. They showed promise, but didn't deliver last year. If the Twins' offense is any good at all, at least two of those three have to be well above average hitters for their position.

    You're right about Pablo, but I don't believe you can backdate 60-day IL assignments. If Festa does go that list, he'd have to be out until the end of May.

    I'd like to see Martin get a shot against right handed pitching. Larnach appears to have regressed to awful as a left fielder and any extra runs he accounts for with his bat are negated by his baserunning and glove. It appears that the Twins will have 2-1 ratio at catcher and full time regulars in right and center plus four infielders (Bell splitting his starts between first and DH).

    So backup infielder and relief pitcher slots are left to be filled. I don't know if the staff was impressed with Bowman today, but he has an opt-out that will activate if he doesn't make the team. Adams and Festa will go to the IL, Wagaman, Arcia (non-roster), Gray and Kreidler for one infield spot and Altavilla (non-roster), Bowman (non-roster), Laweryson (non-roster), and Kent for two RH reliever spots. Jackson will come off the 40-man if he doesn't make the team, other 40-man spaces are more murky.

    Who is the guy that plays third when Lewis moves to short? The only guy they have with any experience at third (besides Lee) is Eric Wagaman. Is it worth disrupting Lewis and having less middle infield flexibility to add him? I honestly don't think so. The idea is to move the utility guys around, not the regulars unless your name is Willi Castro.

    Matthew Leach is reporting that Austin Martin will be playing in a game tomorrow. I think that unless there's a setback, he won't go on the Concussion IL.

    Sure, he has looked bad so far this spring, but the games and the stats don't count. If he starts the regular season 3-30, I'll be concerned.

    Altavilla hasn't been impressive since returning from the WBC. I wonder if serving up a homer to Chandler Simpson might seal his fate.

    I agree, but I think the Twins think there is something more than Outman has produced since his rookie year.

    Wallner displayed his strengths in the last ten minutes. A long homer and a great throw from the warning track to catch Caminaro going for a double.

    A lot of legitimate points raised by @LyleCole here. Probably my only dispute is that I don't think every player would benefit from developing at the major league level. I'm confident some do, but other need to build on success . Many very good players have struggled in their first attempt in the majors and came back and played well after being sent down. I'm sure there are an untold number of guys that were hurt by coming up too soon. The Twins are trying to win as a low-payroll team. They are also saying they will compete now after shedding a bunch of salary after the trading deadline. A lot of things have to go right for that to happen. This is going to be a transition season and I don't much care who is on the Opening Day roster. I think it will become apparent pretty early that they can't compete and the kids will play, including Culpepper, Gonzalez, Rodriguez and maybe Jenkins. It's not unprecedented that a team tabbed at mid-70s wins breaks out. I can think of three this decade, for sure--Baltimore 2022, Kansas City and Detroit 2024--but a bunch of players need to come through for that to happen. I'll follow the team, expecting little and hoping for more, but hope the front office makes the appropriate response when they show they aren't competitive.

    Twins brought most of their regulars up the the coast, except for Buxton.

    They didn't release Arcia yesterday, so I think he makes the Opening Day roster. If Kreidler could hit just a little bit he would be a major league asset. Not many guys are as good with the glove at so many positions. If Martin starts the season on the Concussion IL, I think there's a chance that both guys make the team. That statement is rather sad, I admit.

    Nice report and it highlights what the Twins' farm system holds right now. There are a number of nearly finished prospects among the position players including E Rodriguez, Gonzalez and Culpepper. The high-end pitching prospects are a bit further away, none of the guys who pitched for the Twins in the game will be making an big league impact this year. Marek Houston was better with the bat than I thought he would be. He might take a big step in 2026.

    Only five days until Opening Day and the Twins have tipped their hand on most of the Opening Day roster by releasing Urshela, Chafin and Hendriks. There are still several positions to be decided with no room on the 40-man roster. The Il will be used at least for Festa and Adams and perhaps Martin. What are your guesses for the 26-man roster on 3/26? Bonus if you show your work on the 40-man roster. Here's my current best guess: Pitchers (13)--Rotation--Ryan, Bradley, Ober, Abel, Woods Richardson. Bullpen--Rogers, Banda, Funderburk, Sands, Topa, Orze, Kent, Altavilla. IL: Festa and Adams. Catchers (2)--Jeffers, Caratini. Infield--(6)--Bell, Keaschall, Lee, Lewis, Arcia, Clemens. Outfield--(5)--Wallner, Buxton, Outman, Martin, Larnach. I've included two non-roster players (Altavilla & Arcia), so two 40-man moves would need to be made. One would be Alex Jackson DFA or trade and the other would be a 60-day IL stint for Festa. Matt Bowman might beat out Kent or Altavilla for a bullpen spot. I picked Arcia over Kreidler, because Arcia didn't get released yesterday. Wagaman makes the team if Martin can't go, but Martin was doing baseball activities two days ago, so he should be ready. I'm guessing the Twins give Outman a little more runway before they move on from him, which means Roden gets sent to St. Paul despite a really good ST.

    Hendriks, Chafin and Urshela all let go. They gave all three chances to show that they could still do it, but none got over the line. It shows how poor this bullpen should be because there is no "young gun" available to take the place of either Hendriks or Chafin. Cody Funderburk and maybe Dan Altniavilla will get spots to replace those guys. Matt Bowman might make the club out of spring training. As for Gio, his last good year was with the Twins in '22, and he was a good player that year. I hope they make him a coach at St. Paul if he doesn't get another offer. He a great example of a guy who has made the most of his abilities for nearly nine years.

    I try not to read too much into Spring Training, especially from established players, but there hasn't been much I've seen that inspires hope.

    I'll put it here. Bobby Nightengale reports that Liam Hendriks has been released. Hendriks had an opt-out, so this would indicate he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster.

    Twins prospects leading Phillies prospects 7-3 in the 5th. Phillies are having two breakout games, so didn't send all of their best prospects to the game.

    I think they might IL Martin, but Larnach was supposed to be able to play today.
