  1. Festa’s pedigree is much more similar to Bailey Ober, a middle range draft choice coming out of college. His increased velo and success in the minors moved him up and got him ranked among top prospects. The success of developing Ober and Ryan have been huge in putting together the rotation and maintaining the quality of the staff. (I honestly don’t know how much credit the Twins should get for Ryan’s success—it could be shared with the Rays and with Ryan himself). If Festa can have similar success as those two, then the Twins have another feather in their cap. Limiting walks isn’t the same as command. Festa put too many balls in good hitting spots and paid the price. The stuff looked okay to me, but far from dominant.
  2. Injuries and ineffectiveness will probably make the decisions for the left handed corner outfielders and first base. Probably the same for the infield. I really don't know if the Twins can count of Lewis given his all-too-frequent injuries. While his post-ACL injuries haven't come from playing in the field, I wonder what they will do to limit his injuries or the risk of them.
  3. On July 4, 2023, what would the projections have looked like for today? In the long slog that is a major league season, there are ebbs and flows. José Miranda has come back from being irrelevant to a near All-Star. Larnach has seen his stock fall and then rise. A year ago, Kirilloff was a couple weeks away from being Player of the Week. Wallner and Julien were key starters down the stretch and in postseason and now are in the minors. There aren't many sure things.
  4. And he's back on a minor league contract. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/twins-sign-matt-bowman-to-minor-league-deal.html
  5. I couldn't remember Pineda and Pérez piggybacking, so I checked the game logs. Pérez relieved Pineda in Big Mike's first start of 2019 and not ever again for the entire year. Maybe you are remembering someone else relieving Pineda and maybe it wasn't in 2019, but that was Pérez' only year with the Twins.
  6. I think there’s a good chance that Maeda is taken out of Detroit’s rotation and a greater than zero chance they let him go. I thought the Twins should try to keep him, but he might be cooked.
  7. Nope, the stats count. It’s only if the lead changes without the home team getting their chance to take the lead that the results don’t count.
  8. Perk was right about Maeda Ks. Sitting on 999.
  9. Feels like the top of the ninth. That's one.
  10. Service time. Neither pitcher is accumulating service time while on minor league IL. I don’t think the Twins could recall either guy since they’re already on the Injured List, in order to create a 40-man space or spaces.
  11. It will be interesting, for sure. It is defensible to recall either player from a roster construction standpoint and Wallner has performed very well for the Saints. Julien hasn’t performed as well, but (I noted he has made 8 errors in the field for the Saints) he is an infielder who would replace an infielder. I think the Twins will promote Lee because he is hitting well and he can be a good third baseman and he has time there. The wild card is Miranda. If the Twins want to give him run as a regular third baseman, then recalling Wallner or Julien is prudent.
  12. Preseason waiver claim, RHP Zack Weiss, was activated from the 60-day injured list last week and began a rehab assignment. Today, this assignment was transferred from the FCL Twins to Fort Myers. Nit pick here--Weiss wasn't activated, he was given a rehab assignment. When he is activated, he will either have to be added to the 40-man roster or DFA'd.
  13. "Getting to Skubal" means that they scored three runs in six innings, while striking out seven times. That's okay, but it is not like they pounded the Tigers' ace. Winning a game when Detroit started their best and the Twins started a rookie made it a really good day.
  14. Probable IL for Lewis means that there is a place for Lee to play. Brock Stewart has already been out for 60 days, so he can be moved to the 60-day with no muss, no fuss. Can Lee stay in the majors? If he's recalled, it will be up to him. Also, it is a great advantage to have your top farm club 15 minutes away. Lee didn't have to be disrupted yesterday and if it is determined it is time for his promotion, he's a Green Line ride away.
  15. It looks good now. Correa isn't thirty yet and he's having a terrific 2024 campaign. The contract he signed was shorter, thus containing less decline years. It would have been nice to add a shortstop with good to elite speed, which is something Correa is not, even when healthy.
  16. We all are, but the Twins have been extraordinarily healthy for almost two months. Injuries are going to happen. One hopes they aren’t severe and don’t all happen to the same position group.
  17. Margot, not Santana, correct? The interview I saw was Audra questioning Margot.
  18. As much as I see most moves by the front office as defensible, the business side seems to have done everything wrong (payroll, TV contract) to suppress attendance.
  19. Willi is sliding a little bit, lots more Ks lately.
