  1. They'd replace Correa with another Twin--he's (so far) the only representative. The report I read was the Twins have the best record of the teams with only one representative and several teams with worse records have multiple players on the team. Cleveland has five and the Royals have four. The Twins record is roughly halfway between KC and Cleveland.
  2. They've played most of the bad teams already and do have a tougher go of it than the Twins, but just when I think the Twins can make a move, Cleveland wins some games they shouldn't. While being a wild card isn't ideal, it does give the club a chance to make noise in the postseason.
  3. Very impressed by Lee's hitting and even more impressed by his fielding. The Twins had several good performances today and secured a win against a good team. I was about to comment on Margot's failures as a pinch hitter--some of that is bad luck, but some guys just have a knack and he might not. It is odd that the most frequent pinch hitter is the least productive.
  4. Nobody wants to advance through the wild card, but the Twins have the edge over Kansas City (5-2) and Boston (2-1). They have won the season series against both Houston and Seattle, so they sit with a lot of tiebreakers in their favor. They are still six games behind Cleveland and play the same two teams that the Guards have just completed playing (Twins on the road, Cleveland at home) before the All-Star break.
  5. I'll add that the tiebreaker also stands for wildcard seeding and there are no game 163s, so if the Twins tie either Seattle or Houston for a wildcard, they win out.
  6. I think Miranda got a walkoff off of Hader in 2022, when Hader was with the Brewers. Edit to add: that is correct, Miranda hit a three-run blast off Hader in the bottom of the ninth. I should remember, I was there.
  7. Vázquez!!!!!!! Yeah, we all saw that coming.
  8. Really good game. The Twins have had more chances, but haven't gotten enough big hits to put them away. They get Hader in the ninth.
  9. Jax has been a heckuva find for the Twins. After his rookie year as a starter, I thought he was a non-talent, but his stuff as a bullpen arm is first-rate
  10. Okay, the leadoff double was weak. The liner to left was well hit, sometimes things even out.
  11. Hang in there Peter. The Twins are due to win one.
  12. Probably getting ahead of myself, but maybe the Twins need to consider moving Royce to another position. Lewis is okay, but Lee seems like a natural over there, even though he only played ten games at third in the minors.
  13. I think Wallner has been underrated as a defender. He's actually fast, but not that quick and he has that great arm. His routes have improved since his first look in 2022.
  14. It looks like four innings of bullpen for both teams.
  15. Ump hasn't called a low strike all day, until the first pitch to Larnach.
  16. Too many pitches with two many non-competitive pitches along with a tight strike zone.
  17. Two isn't breaking the game open, but those walks really hurt.
  18. I know Lee is a California kid, but when I look at him I see Opie with dark hair.
  19. I think there were a lot of days last year that Rocco was waiting for a thumbs up or thumbs down on players (Buxton and Correa for sure) and the lineup couldn’t be finalized until late.
  20. Kind of a milepost game IMHO. The Astros have been on a long trip, winning two series coming to Minnesota. The Twins have won a bunch of series in a row against bad (Oakland), medium (Arizona) and good (Seattle in Seattle) teams. For the Twins to add a series win against the Astros puts them above Houston in a tiebreaker and solidly in line for the second wild card, if they can't catch Cleveland. It wouldn't be the end of the world with a loss, but Houston then looks to be the better team going forward. It will be tough to hold either team down iMHO. It should be a high-scoring game where the team that takes the best advantage of opportunities wins the game. Go Twins!
