  1. Happy birthday, Tina Turner.
  2. This is the society we live in. You can either learn from it or hide from it. The only posts I block are the ones trying to sell me crap. Even here, eventually I read posts from people on ignore, if nothing else as a reminder of why.
  3. My rule is to choose friends who think independently and force me to do the same. Most of them have been doing so for decades.
  4. Along with the outright fake stuff it's also worth it to check the dates on original posts. The algorithms FB uses are particularly bad and so things will appear in the feed that are maybe two or three weeks old, people re-share them, and boom; looks like news. Meanwhile a lot may have changed. Fortunately the wisdom of Carl Sagan never goes out of date.
  5. Whoever was involved in nominating Darren Sharper to the Hall of Fame.
  6. I don't think burying our heads in the sand here is the appropriate response.
  7. I don't think some of these folks would know honest communication if it bit them in the bum.
  8. Good thing I blend in the Space pictures. WTH is 'alt-right?' Are they afraid to say American Nazis lest Godwin come and strike them down?
  9. Thanks to everyone here. Made a few genuine friends and that's been worth a great deal.
  10. I certainly would never accuse fandom of rationality. Or sobriety, for that matter.
  11. Okay, out on the radical limb. Greater participation for women, in the front office, the umpiring, and eventually on the field.
  12. I would love having Cuddyer on the broadcast team.
  13. I'd get season tickets.
  14. Free beer. Ticket sales will skyrocket.
  15. Bukowski was certainly an interesting chap. Some of my friends with a more nihilistic bent swear by him. I still look to the stars. Got no use for heaven; got no use for hell. Uncertain about Homo sapiens. We still may be just another evolutionary dead end.
  16. Sorry.
  17. So about that wall. https://www.good.is/articles/what-trumps-wall-looks-like
  18. Which is why it's so good to be able to laugh at oneself. Everybody else is so we might just as well join in.
  19. It certainly takes a combination of self-discipline and collaboration to minimize, and that's no sure thing either. But it's the best shot we've got I don't know if it's enough. I've come to doubt it. Meh.
  20. No, we all have it, and likely couldn't survive without it. The trick is learning how to recognize it and gain perspective.
  21. Almost a definition of why the scientific method was invented.
  22. Maybe, maybe not. I guess we'll find out now. I hope he makes it. I hope Palka makes it too.
  23. The inexorable spread of Mad Cow continues...
  24. This, along with getting the extra option year for Vargas, seems to be making a clear path for Park to return as DH.
