Heh, well you certainly got this part right. Probably time to acknowledge you might have been mistaken in overstating your claims. I won't hogpile on the blame wagon with others because I do agree there is a significant problem with how people will be able to bounce back coming out of this mess. But I don't share the fatalistic 'there's nothing we can do, it's just how things are; if they die, they die' attitude. For me, that's just plain wrong, and perhaps immoral. I hope we all live to see it proven wrong, and it will be through are actions as humans, and as citizens, that show that we can choose our way.

Since you're in Texas, we should be able to keep a safe distance. As an aside, I dislike the term 'social distancing.' We need physical distancing, but social interconnection is an essential part of our humanity. It would be a shame to lose any more of that.

And I'm more concerned about those who are dying, and those who are treating them who are also becoming sick, and some of them dying as well. What I'm talking about is far worse than a case of the flu though. We certainly have different value systems.

I'm also an ethics/history guy. Social darwinism went out about a hundred years ago. Still, I'll hope your family doesn't have to suffer as a result of certain peoples' proud ignorance.

Maybe. There's this letter to the respected journal Nature: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-020-0156-0 They say nothing about human trials for SARS-CoV-2, so this does not seem imminent. I'd be delighted to be wrong.

In preference to being dead (since I'm in a higher risk demographic), yes, I suppose I would. The general public is beyond my control; I can only direct my own actions. Eradicated? Perhaps not.
