  1. I had to step away from the game, and when I came back the unexpected had happened. Amusing to read the rest of this thread with the knowledge of what was about to unfold.
  2. "Sir, I need to ask you to step aside. Five strikeouts in only 6 innings? Who are you, and what have you done with Pat Dean?"
  3. We don't allow Heavy Metal at Twins Daily.
  4. Yes, with only 93.3% of managers being white according to the article, it's clear that there is a problem with good white candidates getting recognition. But seriously, the point is that when hiring a manager (and notice how I sneaked in the unsupported premise that we should be looking to do that now) there are usually a lot of qualified candidates who are more or less indistinguishable from one another in terms of the basic qualifications, and you are looking for one that has some kind of "secret sauce" he brings to the kitchen. With a team (like many others) that has a number of young Hispanic players, some of whom are under-performing, it's not a stretch to wonder if finding a manager with a certain simpatico would be that special (if not exactly secret) sauce.
  5. From a purely sabrmetric point of view I'd give MVP to Plouffe. Highest net Win Probability Added at the plate, average defensive WAR for his position (with no one except maybe Buxton standing out in that regard). The digital computer has spoken.
  6. Which system? Free enterprise? I'm hardly an apologist for the ills of our market economy, but this doesn't rank very high among them. There's plenty of checks and balances on sports reporting by the press. Who should the announcers answer to instead of the team? MLB itself? That's simply a different conflict of interest. The broadcast company? They have as much incentive to sugarcoat as the team does.
  7. They want him to perfect his eephus pitch before coming up to the Show.
  8. http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_29913105/firing-braves-fredi-gonzalez-leaves-two-minority-managers I would have thought by now this kind of statistic would no longer be possible, nor relevant, but here we are. Should Paul Molitor's replacement be Hispanic? With all the young prospects the Twins are counting on, would it be a plus?

  10. I hope you enjoyed tonight's walk-off win, when Brian Dozier made Danny Santana's successful stolen base an afterthought with his two-run blast on a foolish high inside fastball.
  11. Some of us were trying to politely hint that, *last* year.

  16. Apparently your reputation preceded you, and the system got mixed up.
  17. I don't think Polanco makes the throw, TBH.
  18. Sano late getting around on the big-league fastball.
  19. Cat videos, on TwinsDaily. Now I've seen it all.
