  1. Wasted at-bat by Rosario. I'm going out on a limb and say that he didn't like receiving the bunt sign.
  2. I think we decided the first week of the season that they were jinxing us. We might need to revisit that.
  3. Pipp's probably your better bet for double-digit HRs in the occasional season, if Gordon doesn't pan out.
  4. The radio team (Gladden?) put the jinx on at the end of the third inning by mentioning it. Sheesh. N00bs. Everyone here knows better, right?
  5. Is there a pitch that Rosario won't take a swing at?
  6. I do not understand why Quentin even remains a discussion tangent. The man has batted .211 in the Mexican League in 2016. It's not like the Twins missed a trick by releasing him.
  7. I'd love to, but it's my parakeet's bowling night. Also, I have to sort the gravel in my driveway. And I just remembered, I'm scheduled to give nuisance lessons at our local convenience store. I may think of other reasons, as well.
  8. OK, so after the start, not at the start. A few weeks = 10% in. You can see where I misunderstood you. I got pretty good at spotting the eventual also-rans in the various Olympic events, 10% of the way in.
  9. Coming off the first .500 season in years, it was difficult to find anyone on TD forecasting fewer than 70 wins for the 2016 edition of the team. You were on the record for 59 or less?
  10. My apologies for the threadjack.
  11. Also if his nylon stockings get scratched.
  12. Good luck with that. I was at Fenway last night (not particularly rooting for either team, just enjoying the game), and a shaky starter combined with the bullpen to cough up a lead in the sixth. Leather-lunged guy behind me was howling about Dumb-browski until it was time to leave to catch our train.
  13. Other organizations have affiliates, sample them too. I like the rundown parks in warehouse districts of small cities (I miss Waterloo Iowa having a MiLB team, of all places), the downtown jewels of more recent vintage (Reno and Indianapolis come to mind), the picturesque ones (Quad Cities is one I keep mentioning). Oddball venues like the Cape Cod League are worthwhile too, as well as the independent pro leagues. Great excuse for road trips with like-minded friends having a week or just a weekend to burn - with some care you can map out a hub airport to fly in and out of and several nearby cities whose home schedules happen to mesh for two or three or even four games in a weekend.
  14. Brian Dozier is having an all-star caliber season, although it took him a while to get rolling so got no consideration in July. Max Kepler is having a productive rookie season. Joe Mauer is hitting well enough to be a major league starter at an offensively challenging position. Ervin Santana has quietly put together a very professional season. Brandon Kintzler has been a pleasant surprise in the bullpen and has even shouldered the role of closer when desperation demanded it. I think that about covers it. Somebody please split these into separate articles and flesh them out. Oops, maybe some of these have already been written; I guess that what makes it a blue moon.
  15. The pitching has been bad, but I have liked the offense's performance at times, both in getting leads when the outcome is in doubt, and in chipping away at large deficits. The former tells me it's not only when the pressure is off, the latter tells me they aren't just laying down. They've scored more than plenty to come away with some wins. And as for the pitching, I do not see a reason to believe anyone is going through the motions, but more of an epidemic of poor command; and the guy who is most comfortable financially* is the one doing the best. * Among those not on the DL
  16. There is a more elegant proof of Theorem 2.3, which the margin of this web page is too small to contain.
  17. Your formatting is off. DNFTFY.
  18. I hope the coaches don't ream him too hard about it. He knows he goofed. The goof looks for all the world like wanting so much to win; you don't want to wring that out of him. I'd pat him on the butt, say something benign like "nobody could have caught that one, you didn't lose the game," and then if he does something dumb like that again, talk more pointedly at that time.
  19. How's it look now?
  20. I thought you were funnin', but... http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-logan-schafer-promoted-to-big-leagues/
  21. The nineteen-aughts weren't too darn good. They lost 110 TWICE, and in a relatively shorter season length. Their best finish in that decade was their first, in 1901, 6th place of 8, .459 pct, 20.5 games back. The 50s by comparison were a golden era - they broke even a couple of times.
  22. I think everyone in the ballpark knew that if the Twins surrendered that lead, they would go on to lose. As soon as that ball was struck, you knew if it dropped then the baserunner would score to tie it. The catch had to be made. It was an impossible catch for someone with Kepler's speed.Everything after that decision to go for it... was just... horrible to watch, but in all practicality really only accelerated the inevitable outcome.
