  1. Great minds think alike. / and so do we.
  2. That's nice, but if you post photos of it as evidence, you're gonna get banned.
  3. Indeed. And after that lengthy at-bat, Mauer gives the first pitch a whack just to put the pitcher off-stride. Nice.
  4. Mauer with a two-run homer in the first? Didn't we see this plot recently? It's June, time for reruns maybe?
  5. I'm just not on the Deibinson train. His rate of errors at third base suggests he's still pretty rough there, and his full-season batting in past seasons doesn't make him look like a better than replacement-level player; after a hot start he's batting about .200 the past couple of weeks so the trend this year isn't looking that good either.
  6. Perhaps Span too. The closer the time comes that three better outfielders are knocking on the door, the more other GMs will laugh when Span is offered in trade and say "here's a utility infielder, take it or leave it".
  7. Gardy's looking to earn style points for pinch hitting for his leadoff batter if they bring in a tough lefty in the late innings. Any schmoe can make the call to pinch hit for an 8th spot batter.
  8. Apparently not; the streak is over and I'm switching avatars. My 20-year old son wandered by and saw it and said I was being creepy, anyway. Catwoman will just have to ride the pine for a while. / and in case Chief wanders by later: yes, I know. Giggity.
  9. I'm glad we arrived at this Kum-ba-yah moment; the thread was looking like it needed to be summarily closed. Now that we're all copacetic and stuff, I hope going forward the discussions (here and elsewhere) will remain more focused on the actual topics of threads, and less on guesses at motivations or states of mind of the posters, and a greater inclination to ignore such lapses when they occur rather than escalate.
  10. I imagine he receives them as a professional courtesy or something.
  11. The Catwoman avatar has not failed us since the beginning of the ChiSox series. I hold out hope even yet.
  12. My intuition is that Melissa can show you a good time, if you're man enough for her. Come to think of it, Rosie probably is man enough for her too. Hey-yo!
  13. I'm commenting on this one post, but the one it was in response to and the several ones in further response are all tied together: TD Comment Policy frowns on "you shouldn't have posted that" kinds of posts, and specifically John Bonnes's point #6 is "Comments about how you're sick of this topic or it's not newsworthy." However, it's well taken that repeated posts driving home a single point in unrelated thread-after-thread are also undesirable - it would be well if people could try to not thread-jack. Once it happens, it would be well if others didn't react. This being a game thread, it's all pretty much fine, but I thought I should point out the issues here. Carnac: Thread moderation. Ed: Thread moderation. Carnac: [nods] Thread moderation. Ed: Thread moderation. Carnac: One of us seated here is redundant. I'm betting on the guy with the lower salary. Ed: Hey-yo, o Wise One. Please open the envelope. Carcac: What comes the next week after overdosing on threads Saturday night.
  14. Baseball being a game of continual adjustments, it takes several hundred PA sometimes for us to get a steady bead on what a guy will do. The book on Dozier apparently handcuffed him for a while recently, he now seems to have figured something out that is allowing this power surge, the book on him will soon get adjusted so as to avoid these homers, and the challenge for him will then be to make something with the pitches he then gets. I realize this mainly boils down to platitudes, but is why I'm still cautiously optimistic about him without being totally on the bandwagon yet.
  15. And then I would sign him as a free-agent in the off-season, just for the pleasure of trading him away again in '14.
  16. At the end of the season and looking back I would rather have had the guy with the 4.00 ERA, for the reason you stated. If looking forward and deciding which of these two to sign for the coming season, at approximately the same salary, I'd probably take the 4.00 FIP guy. Because that's more what FIP is for, to weed out irreproducible results versus the fundamentals.
  17. Doumit's been in the OF at a higher rate of innings than last year too, and Willingham's RF/9 is lower than last year. Death by multiple cuts.
  18. Seems like Spring Training is sufficient time to get a guy up to 5+ innings. My concern is more about his former team deciding he didn't have the correct mix of pitches to support multiple times through the opposing lineup. Has that changed? Those kinds of judgements don't seem commonly reversed, and I don't recall many instances of a team giving up on a guy as a starter and some other team discovering the hidden gold.
  19. How do you like him now that he's an adult?
  20. This is cleverly worded and deserves to be savored.
  21. It's kind of fun and exciting, and I don't mean this to be snide, to note that our first-rounder has a residual case of acne. The promise of youth!
  22. What about a package to obtain a high-ceiling prospect - KC plus a middling prospect (good floor, lower ceiling), or KC plus one of Morneau/Doumit/Willingham?
  23. He can say it but you shouldn'ta posted it.
