  1. In retrospect it was a mistake buying a lawnmower that was painted yeller.
  2. Oakland has a small foul territory. I've done that there many times myself, on days that sold out.
  3. Hey, I'm married, I know. She: Let's go into this shop. He: Sure. Just so long as we don't go into any buys.
  4. It was, as I recall it, a reference to Sano being chided for admiring his home runs, but Buxton being cheered for stretching for triples when the game maybe didn't indicate it... or something.
  5. Ohhhh, I never could stay mad at you, Josmil.
  6. You shop a lot. Just an observation.
  7. It's a terrible ballpark even when people are there to whoop it up. I can't imagine what it'd be like empty. I've been to quiet games at the Oakland Coliseum, they're still a pleasant day in the sun.
  8. Please consider laying hands on Liam Hendriks's arm.
  9. Figured you were just editorializing. Looked it up. Rand said that.
  10. Scratching my head here - I was responding to a specific line that seemed to be unnecessary hyperbole about the recent past.
  11. Had you answered it this way, snepp would not have issued his warning. It's not acceptable to demean others, and the TD Comments Policy makes clear that respect for others is a top priority.
  12. Well yes, because your "time and again"s are limited to years 2011-13 when the team was on the way to a putrid record by the time these moves were made. What would be the equivalent moves in 2010 when they were on the way to a division title? (I'm serious, I don't know at the moment how to look up a season's transactions, and maybe he did shed payroll in July.) Is it really wrong to say in July-August that we're not winning so what's the point of spending $X for the rest of the season? And does it apply as a forecast of future actions in seasons that aren't like that? / edit - heh, Pilgrim and I reacted pretty much to the same thing
  13. If rooting for a win is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
  14. I'm with Seth on this. Please don't attack people's manhood ("last man left", "wimpy boys"), individually or as a group. It's not justified and it lacks respect.
  15. The Twins sat him for a few weeks in June. From that time forward, in 11 starts his ERA is 3.45. League average is 4.34. It's not a full season and he's not Cy Young and I think he's been a little lucky for once; but it's been more than a month and he's been more than merely ok unless your standard for ok excludes most of the league.
  16. Age 24-27 MLB: 715 PA .263/.302/.419 Age 24-27 AAA: 1242 PA .309/.377/.460 This looks to me like a pretty typical difference between the two levels, particularly a dropoff in getting walks, even allowing that the uneven mix of when these stats were accumulated makes comparison hard. The AAA bar needs to be set higher for "succeeding" if you want more than this from a player in the majors. And if he keeps up an OPS around .700 with decent CF defense, he'll have a job in the majors somewhere for a while longer; depends on what you call succeeding.
  17. Since I don't have access to the full article I don't have a good feel for how these rankings measure up, but with a higher score for mobility (13) than for major league talent (5) maybe it reflects that you could move guys but not get that much for them. If Arcia and Gibson are no longer counted in their Minors category, they would be added to the bullpen guys and Dozier as cheap fungible (I won't say coveted) players. That doesn't mean they are on the trading block of course, but for the purpose of the ESPN analysis they could be part of why mobility is marginally higher than current quality in the majors.
  18. While John's comment may have been partly tongue-in-cheek, I have set up a kind of "clearinghouse" in my blog at: Road Trip for Arizona Fall League? - Blogs - Minnesota Twins News & Rumors Forum If you have some interest in going, even if it's 1% at this point, add a comment so that we can keep track and compare notes closer to the start of the games.
  19. The more I read this discussion, the better I think I understand why Mauer leading the league in BA (or any other batting category) was a rare event. It's not just that it's hard to keep your batting production up when you combine it with catching; it's also that any catching prospect with stellar batting skills gets shifted away from the position, via similar reasoning as being discussed here, much earlier in his career, maybe even prior to signing his first professional contract.
  20. Hi Five! G'night, y'all.
  21. Isn't the option then to rent it out and live in Hell?
  22. Oh. McKayla Maroney. Didn't catch your drift at first.
  23. Rex Jones? If so, yeah, pretty epic.
  24. I hope you didn't just describe your own preferred method of birth control, glunn.
  25. There. Better? / edit - what's that about the lemons? She seems contemplative. I like that in a pole vaulter.
