    Hard to figure. Entering his age 21 year, 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, throws lefty, good stats in rookie-level ball. Something his coaches see, that says to them, "no hope of his ever being in a major league box score". None. No chance of growing into his body, no chance of learning from the coaching staff... just no hope. So final. I feel sorry for the kid, and for every kid for whom the axe comes so early for.

    It likely will do that even moreso, when you have the pitcher batting in front to make that third out more frequently.

    Similar story for Mrs Ashbury and me, but Milwaukee. The wedding was in her hometown of Chicago, the actual honeymoon vacation was in Door County WI. But there was no way in the world I was going to let my practical-joking family or inlaws pull any stunts like short-sheeting and worse. So unbeknownst to them (and maybe Mrs Ash, I forget), I reserved a room at the Holiday Inn downtown Milwaukee, and had a worry free wedding night. Then we drove the rest of the way to the White Gull Inn the next morning. Perfect. / worry free wedding night - now there is a set up for someone to take and run with, I'm sure

    See, that's where the quick back-of-the-envelope calculation starts to fail and can mislead. You're counting down the list of pitchers who pitch enough innings in a given year, but there aren't that many to round out all the rotations. There's other problems as well, but that one stands out.

    By this you mean someone the Twins will keep trying/grooming as a MLB starter over the course of several seasons before giving up and at least getting some value out of him?

    I'm always skeptical of PCL batting stats versus their IL counterparts, that is to say I deduct a little more when thinking about how a mature player might do in the majors, and Albuquerque in particular I think of as aided by thin air. That plus 2013 being something of an outlier in his total resume, and him coming down to earth a bit in his 100 PA this year, and I'm not looking at this as too much of a missed opportunity. Something in the Alex Presley and Darin Mastroianni spectrum (different skill sets of course).
