  1. Pfff. Big Pelf's got a .667 OBP. In even fewer PA. He's an on-base machine.
  2. Same thoughts here as when Bonnes asked the same question the other day.
  3. Dozier's best OPS month last year was August. Stats will fluctuate anytime you pick a 30 day sample, but I don't see evidence of a wearing down process there
  4. And Berrios. Don't forget Berrios. JO has been discounted for this discussion too.
  5. One water balloon, one, and that's all anyone ever wants to talk about.
  6. I bid 50 quatloos on this newcomer.
  7. Twins should trade for Pinto, no question. I'm sure Rochester would listen to any offers.
  8. Good system. This eventually results in one load, after all.
  9. Great, so who do we package him with to get Lucroy?
  10. Nah, nah... #5 -- A Skeleton walks into Target Field and says... "I have a bone to pick about your bullpen".
  11. For some reason I just feel like posting this. I bet no one watches it.
  12. I can assure all readers, you have missed little, the rest of their rendition goes on in a similar vein.
  13. Challenge accepted! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5Y1KCfAchA
  14. Off now to perform move-related duties today. Like Jerr, I'll be back later - to second-guess all the jinxes and reverse-jinxes.
  15. Fangraphs has his fine ERA at a more pedestrian FIP of 3.40, so it depends on how you define successful as to whether to call it merely acceptable or promising or whatever. He's doing it at a higher level than last year, so certainly he's earning his way this year. But he's not particularly young for his league, and his SO/9 rate is not high, so the margin for error to keep his career going isn't huge. Hoping for the best.
  16. I'm in basic agreement, except to restate that he struggles to recognize breaking pitches. He swings at things that I'm sure his analytic side would never attempt.
  17. Case by case, I imagine. And if there is significant success, such as getting through 7 innings in the allotted 100+ pitches by not giving up many runs, the innings total gets to 200 and above pretty much on its own. While without consistent success, *cough* Pelfrey *cough*, there will seem to be a 180 inning limit where there really isn't.
  18. It is prudent not to make decisions in advance, when events could still change. Dealing with starting pitching is definitely "optimization under uncertainty". It is something else when the uncertainty is no longer there and they still can't make a decision. And this is what it looks like from here.
  19. Problem is there are two crows flying at the same time. It's actually a calculus problem - two rates of change, first second or even third derivatives, and all that. The human eye can be trained to be pretty good at that. But it does require tons of practice, and some eyes are better at it than others.
  20. It's hardly obvious. The other way to do it, which amounts to the same but is slightly automated, is to click the little green square above the area where you type content for a post (it's to the left of "Size"), and choose "Media" in that drop-down menu. Click-paste the YouTube URL into the box. This inserts the meta-code I described above. Super intuitive.
  21. Heh, I already went ahead and did it for you, without asking. Here's what you do. Make sure it's a full YouTube address, not one of those .be addresses. Then surround it with "media" in square brackets in front, and "/media" in square brackets at the end. I don't think I can show you, because the posting software would try to interpret it as a video.
  22. You sure that isn't someone's 45 being played at 78?
  23. "Let's try and keep the 360s to a minimum, OK?" That was only about a 225 to 270.
  24. Do I believe yet? No. For a variety of reasons, I expect them to come back to earth. Staying above .500 isn't a given. Put me down for 80 wins. That's a pessimistic view that I very much hope to be wrong about (to the upside), of course. Why? I'll go with, "teams have halves out of kilter with each other all the time."
  25. According to Seth's minor league leader board, Alex leads all Twins relief prospects (fewer than 3 starts) in innings, with 51, and he has the third best ERA at 1.41. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/19126-article-twins-minor-league-leader-board-through-july-10/
