    While I disagree with the strategy, my guess is that the front office thought a month's worth of starts would establish some trade value for him. And the plan was to re-assess after July 31, either because they traded him or the attempt was over. It's July 31 now, so we'll see if this is right.

    Which of his do you believe to be a trick pitch? When I saw him in spring, I liked his breaking pitch in the dirt. I just went back to the TD Prospect Handbook, and this is the scouting report: "he will typically sit with a fastball between 92 and 93 mph. He has a very good, sharp curveball that drops over the plate. He has a good changeup and also throws a palm ball."

    For the season all his stats (BA, SLG to start with) are far better with men on base than with the bases empty, and even better when the situation is RISPy. If he's been "struggling" recently, it's the smallest of Small Sample Sizes.
