  1. I haven't been since it was at the Metrodome, so it's been awhile. Was it really cold last year - Is most of the stuff indoors?
  2. So.... Who went last year? Who plans on going this year? Is it worth $20?
  3. What was the biggest surprise of the Hall of Fame voting results? How bad does Ricky Nolasco have to be to lose a spot in the Twins' rotation? Conversely, how good does Alex Meyer have to pitch to earn a spot?
  4. Not sure about all the prospects, But Lester Oliveros was wearing #48 recently, so Torii might have to buy Lester dinner or something to get his # back. Ervin Santana wore #30 in Atlanta and wore #54 in KC and LAA - both look available so far. Tim Stauffer wore #47, #54, and #46 in San Diego - Nolasco already wears #47 for the Twins, and Santana will possibly want #54 again... So.... no idea. Buxton is currently listed on the Chattanooga Roster as wearing #7. He wore #1, #2, and #9 in single A (at least, I've seen pictures of him wearing those #s). Sano wore #24 in Beloit and has worn #33 as well. In spring training he has worn #72 and #98.
  5. I like the fact that Molina had more stolen bases (3) than extra base hits (2) last year. Pretty rare for a catcher! And totally ridiculous, of course. Molina would probably make a great bench coach, but I would not want him taking away a single at bat from Josmil Pinto (or even from Eric Fryer for that matter).
  6. From last week: The Pirates won the bidding for Jung-ho Kang and have a month to sign him to a contract. So far no deal has been announced.
  7. I'm looking forward to all of these things!
  8. no love for Nuñez? Yeah, the competition is important to consider. SS is weaker this year, and I have to believe that division rivals Kansas City and Chicago will get a little bump to their rosters because of the Royals' post-season and the Chi-Sox off-season. Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval, Russell Martin all moved from the NL to the AL, and the National league's biggest new name was Yasmany Tomas (other guys went from one NL team to another) or Jon Lester. I think a middle infielder has the best chance of making the All-Star team from the Twins. I do think that voters and coaches subconsciously (or consciously) include the previous year when they are picking the team, so that's in Dozier and Santana's favor as well.
  9. Dozier, Hughes, and a wild card with a hot first half - Danny Santana? Oswaldo Arcia? Plouffe?
  10. Fryer officially accepted the assignment to AAA, so he's still the backup's backup should he be needed.
  11. Hiroki Kuroda is going back to Japan: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/26/report-hiroki-kuroda-is-going-back-to-japan/
  12. Dan Uggla is back in the NL East, signing a minor league deal with the Nationals.
  13. Also in former Twins news: Jeff Manship signs a minor league deal with Cleveland; and Jose Mijares signs a minor league deal with the Reds
  14. Unless there's a trade or a Spring Training injury, I think all the candidates will get multiple starts. The roster does get interesting, though when looking at the areas of "depth" - The Twins took care of the "Chris" log-jam on the 40 Man Roster, but Herrmann still seems a bit out of place. Nuñez has been mentioned a couple of times, of course, as being redundant with Escobar filling the utility role. It seems like the need is still OF defense, and possibly another bullpen upgrade. Personally I think the bullpen could be upgraded via promoting the prospect Burdi, but I'm guessing that won't happen in the spring. I do get the feeling there's more shuffling to come with the roster before opening day.
  15. Yeah, not Stauffer, please. I think the reason Spring Training will influence the decision on the 5th starter is that it is Pitching Coach Neil Allen's first spring seeing the candidates on a daily basis. I doubt that the stats will matter too much - I'm guessing that Allen, Molitor, and Ryan will be discussing the options and make a decision based on the eyeball test. I think something outside of the boxscore will determine the winner of this competition. Which guys get to the ball park first? Which ones, working closely with Allen, seem to "get it" - meaning Allen's style of coaching? Which guy has the best mechanics, and/or has shaken off the rust of the winter the most? It's likely that all the #5 spot candidates will get multiple starts in 2015 for the Twins, it might not matter too much in the long run who breaks camp with the Twins.
  16. Twins missed their chance to claim Ryan Lavarnaway off waivers, but he'll probably be DFA'd another 4 times before New Year's Day, so I'll go with that. Or... J.P. Arencibia is a free agent? John Buck, who the Twins almost signed instead of Suzuki, is a free agent again, and was TERRIBLE last year. Not much on the free agent market, but the team would just be looking for depth... If Fryer makes it to Rochester without incident (traded, somehow declares free agency, etc.), I think the Twins are fine as is. They can make a roster move if there's an injury when it comes up...
  17. Parmelee has accepted the assignment, or does he still have the option to become a free agent now?
  18. All together now : "It's just one year!" Jared Burton Version 2.0 would be nice - I would settle for Anthony Swarzak 1.5. Burdi and Achter and friends will be knocking down the door in the not too distant future, using a guy like Stauffer to be a bridge is a nice move.
  19. Catcher Ryan Lavarnaway continues his North American tour, claimed by Orioles after being claimed then DFA'd by the Cubs, and after being claimed then DFA'd by the Dodgers, after being DFA'd by the Red Sox on November 25th.
  20. Remember when the Twins acquired Nuñez ? He replaced Jason Bartlett as the Utility guy and essentially closed the book on Pedro Florimon as well. Baby Steps! Maybe the Twins can upgrade again (if it's Escobar taking the utility role, than I think that's exactly what you would call it). Spring training comes along and maybe they prefer having Shane Robinson on the 25-Man instead of Nuñez - or maybe even Chris Herrmann? Or Parmelee gets that extra life? If the Twins can make a trade in April of 2014 to get Nuñez, there's no reason to think they won't trade him away by April 2015
  21. I think the roster would be too inflexible if Fryer and Pinto are both on it. If the Twins aren't going to play Pinto, I really really really hope they find a trade partner (maybe St. Louis? Finally make that back-up CF trade? Pinto for Bourjos and a reliever?).
  22. I hope the 25th Player on the Roster is a player that is like Nuñez, but better. Free Agent Bonifacio? Eduardo Escobar, becuase the Twins added a better starting CF so we have Hicks, Schafer, Arcia, Hunter, New Guy? How about Rosario? oh, and did Parmelee become a free agent, or did he accept an assignment to AAA?
  23. Dan Rohlfing returns for another season in the Twins organization.
  24. Kevin Slowey signs a minor league deal with Philadelphia.
  25. Those are the guys Confirmed, Admitted, Failed a publicly released test. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_players_named_in_the_Mitchell_Report https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_players_suspended_for_performance-enhancing_drugs Tim Raines was part of the Cocaine scandal in the 80s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_scandals#1985_cocaine_scandal Rumors have flown about Bagwell, Biggio, Piazza, Brian Giles, and Carlos Delgado, but there was little to no evidence presented.
