  1. The Red Sox have offered a contract to Justin Masterson - originally reported as 2 years, now it sounds like it is just a one year offer. The Twins could do worse than Masterson on a 1 year deal...
  2. It makes me feel better to always assume that the Twins are the mystery team in every rumor.
  3. Plouffe also had twice as many homers and hit 40 doubles. Plouffe had a 3.9 WAR to Gillaspie's 1.5. Gillaspie hits well enough, but his defense is not so hot. Maybe he turns it into a strength as Plouffe did in 2014 - but I think they are not as close as their triple slash makes them out to be. The White Sox have been actively looking to replace Gillaspie this off-season, they've been linked to Sandoval and are rumored to be after Headley as well.
  4. The first thing I said they need is to upgrade the rotation. The White Sox did not just win the AL Central by signing these guys. The Twins have some ground to make up, but the Sox roster was such a mess that these changes alone are not going to buy them a pennant. The Sox still have a pretty terrible farm system.
  5. There is a mystery team offering Lester 7 years ...
  6. I hope those trades and new contracts cripple the White Sox for years! Sox still need a Catcher, 3rd Base, Left Field and could probably use a bench bat and more help in the bullpen. The Twins, on the other hand, need to improve the rotation, Left Field, Center Field, and could use more help in the bullpen. I don't think that The White Sox have become instant contenders after spending all that $$ - they were terrible enough last year that these changes will make a difference, though probably not as much as they think it will. Cleveland, I think, is the team that should be concerned more so than the Twins. They acquired Brandon Moss to do the 1B/DH/RF shuffle, but other than that they've got a lot of holes to fill.
  7. They can put him on waivers, sure, but that doesn't stop another team from claiming him - I think they were looking for a RH bench bat, I think they just found a good one!
  8. He always gave a pretty good radio interview too - I listened to the Sunday pre-game show most weekends last season, they had him on regularly.
  9. Twins lost Colabello to the Blue Jays on Waivers, so there's another 40-Man Spot available. Hard to say at this point if it will stay that way for the Rule V draft with all the rumors about starting pitching. Maybe Thompson and/or Parmelee will be dropped this week as well.
  10. Nolasco had a 4.30 FIP last year - CJ Wilson was at 4.31 A bounceback year for Nolasco should be better than Wilson's 2014. A bounceback year for Wilson could be much better. Wilson's been consistently league average or (much) better with the exception of 2014. Nolasco's ceiling looks like League Average. I think if the Twins add anyone to the rotation, they should at least have the reasonable potential to be better than league average.
  11. Jeez, Blue Jays! Are you going to claim every player the Twins put on waivers? Hopefully Colabello is healed and has a productive season in Toronto - good luck to him!
  12. The Astros, Giants, and Marlins all seem to be in on Jed Lowrie to play third for them. Maybe they'd prefer Plouffe? The Giants actually prefer Chase Headley, but they aren't sure if they will be able to sign him. The third Base market is pretty slim after Headley (and Pablo Sandoval, who is already gone) - there may be quite a lot of demand for Plouffe's services. It's also possible that hanging onto him and seeing what happens as the season progresses could bear fruit for the Twins.
  13. Jason Hammel returns to the Cubs after being traded to the A's at the deadline. A's have also just traded Left-handed Bat Brandon Moss to Cleveland for... somebody
  14. "Maybe he can pitch more innings if he doesn't have to wear himself out hitting so much," said no AL executive, ever. The thing is that Vogelsong is not a bad pitcher. There are certainly teams that could upgrade the back of their rotation by adding him to mix. I just don't see how he helps the Twins in the short term or the long term.
  15. I had a similar feeling about Pinto that I now have about Meyer and May. If the Twins aren't going to give their aging prospects innings or at bats, they should trade them for someone they will actually put on the field. (Sano, Buxton, Berrios, Polanco, Stewart, etc are still young, I'm not saying they should be traded this year if they aren't promoted, but for Meyer/May/Pinto/Santana/Vargas/Arcia - now's the time) Put them on the field or get something back for them!
  16. oh hey did everyone forget that Plouffe broke his arm at the end of the year? I realize that he had successful surgery on it already and is expected to be ready to go for spring training, But I noticed that no one mentioned that his season ended with a broken forearm - it's possible that this will have a lasting effect on his hitting. I remain in the camp that the Twins should not look to extend him this offseason, the broken arm was just one more reason that I had forgotten about.
  17. CJ Wilson might be available via Trade - he had a bad 2014, but that may mean a team would be buying low on him. I can't decide if I think it would be worse for the Twins to do nothing, or to add a starter that's not as good or better than Ricky Nolasco
  18. Every indication from offseason rumors are that that Twins will be pushing hard to sign another Starter this week, which is only going to further muddy the picture. Hughes Gibson Nolasco May Meyer Pelfrey Milone Some Random Free Agent Dude The S.R.F.A.D. should be better than at least five of the names on the list, or there's really not much point in offering the contract. The Vogelsong rumors are extremely troubling to me - I feel like the Twins have not learned from their past decade of signing N.L. free agents. These guys are not improving the rotation. Correia is an exception, though even he regressed from his NL numbers and was good mostly in comparison to how bad the rest of the rotation was.
  19. Yankees also add Andrew Miller - 4 years, $36 MM
  20. Oh! Wait a second... What ever happened to those Wily Mo Peña rumors?
  21. Yankees / Diamondbacks / Tigers Three Team Trade! Yankees get Didi Gregorius from AZ Tigers get SP Greene from NYY Diamondbacks get Robbie Ray and minor league Inf from DET. Anyone else think that AZ could have gotten more from someone else?
  22. Terry still has to "see what's out there" (Justin Upton! Matt Kemp! Colby Rasmus, Melky Cabrera, etc!)
  23. I think it was Dirk Hayhurst that mentioned during visits from scouts he would throw one or two pitches as hard as he possibly could to make the radar gun read somewhere around 95 or 96, even though he had no control of the pitch and couldn't repeat it without hurting himself. That way scouts could say "his fastball hits 96" and since they only visit the one or two times a year, he would pitch normally when they weren't around..
