  1. I agree that this is likely a bargain for the Twins, they are getting all of Dozier's prime years with a reasonable amount of cash spent. So... what are the chances that Dozier is a Twin beyond this contract? Guys like Polanco, Gordon, etc should all be ML ready before this contract is up, I'm guessing the Twins would be happy to let Dozier go to free agency in 2019
  2. The three (or four if you count Eddie Rosario) candidates for the starting job in CF have not really distanced themselves from one another. Hicks still has an option, Schafer does not. Robinson can opt out of his contract if he's not on the ML roster, Hicks cannot. The Twins can keep all three players if they start the season with Hicks in AAA and Schafer/Robinson in the OF (hopefully with Santana starting in CF against lefties). Platooning Schafer and Robinson would be great, except they are both terrible against lefties (and Robinson isn't too hot against righties, either.) Platooning Hicks and Schafer would be great, except Hicks still has the chance to improve his hitting against righties, so ideally he's getting more at bats from both sides than he'd get in a platoon. I think someone is going to either get hot the last couple weeks and win the job outright or (more likely) someone is going to slump and end up kicked to the curb. The only reason I would lean towards having Robinson make the team is that he can't be stashed in AAA. The out-clause forces the Twins to either play the lesser talent (Robinson) or risk losing that guy entirely, meaning they have less depth in case of injury or unacceptably poor play from Hicks. But maybe Rosario will be ready to jump in if HIcks fails again? I think the ideal group with the players available is Hicks/Schafer up north, with Shane Robinson convinced to stay with the org in AAA. Even if Robinson is let go, the Twins could still go with Rosario and/or give Santana some starts in CF.
  3. From Mike Berardino's article today: As for Hicks, Molitor suggested the 25-year-old would probably need to reclaim the starting role he held the past two Opening Days in order to break camp with the club. A platoon option would not be as palatable. "I have to be a little careful on that," Molitor said. "My opinion would be that he's young enough to where he probably should be playing on a regular basis somewhere. It's not in stone -- there's not a lot of things in stone. I think for him to play on a regular basis would be important." Link to full article
  4. Least likely because Hicks starting in CF happened the last two seasons despite very similar thoughts from the fanbase, replacing Robinson and Schafer with Presley or Mastroianni or free agents looking for jobs the last two offseasons (guys like Fuld, Bonifacio, etc etc). Least likely because it makes the most sense to me as a fan... I'm sure there's lots of info that we don't have access to that made Hicks the best option in 2014 and 2013, so who really knows if Molitor/Ryan will have a different opinion in 2015 than Gardy/Ryan had in 2013 and 2014. There's no Jason Bartlett safety net to fall back on this time around, so I hope they make the right call!
  5. Schafer is out of options, so he's probably on the 25 Man for sure. Robinson is playing to be the 4th outfielder, and Hicks is just trying to make the team. Hicks might end up as the starting CF again, though at this point I'd rather give Schafer the plate appearances until he cools off. The Twins could start Hicks in AAA, Schafer starting in CF and Sugar Shane could be the 4th outfielder. This seems like the least likely option, but it could happen. Of course, someone could get injured, and then that would make room for someone in a hurry. Hunter has been mostly durable, but ya know, he's going to be 40 years old in a little over a month. It couldn't hurt to have a little depth in the outfield.
  6. gotta have at least one crazy left turn in there...

  8. Was he out by a Country mile, or just a Grapefruit League mile?
  9. Oh wow, really? That was some powerful positive thinking on my part! I had no idea that Sano really homered, that's awesome.
  10. Is this game being televised or broadcast via radio somewhere? ESPN doesn't do its usual regular season running boxscore, just a linescore. The Twins tied the game, I will assume it was a 650 ft home run from Sano.
  11. Radke gave the Twins his right arm - they should retire his number. I wrote an e-mail to Dave St. Peter when I read that Carlos Gomez was going to wear #22 following the Santana trade. I thought then and think now that Gomez is awesome, and it's not to take away from his skill or what he brought to the Twins, but I thought giving Radke's number to another player the year after he retired was insulting in a way. Mauer, sure. He's done more than enough already to cement a retired number. I think the Twins have done well in terms of honoring the best players in their history. I think Kaat (and Blyleven, too, for that matter) spent a lot of time away from the Twins. If Kaat's number is never retired by the Twins, I wouldn't consider it a slight, even if Kaat is voted into the Hall of Fame at some point. Killer, Oliva, Hrbek, Carew, Blyleven, Puck - I think adding Radke to the list would be appropriate. Hopefully in 20 years we'll be talking about adding Sano, Buxton, Meyer, May, Gordon, Kohl Stewart and/or some of the other young prospects.
  12. If Joe played football - would the Twins have kept AJ longer? Does that mean no Liriano, no Joe Nathan, no BOOF?
  13. Hrbek had the best response for sure - his Twitter account is out of control sometimes, I love it.
  14. James Shields signs with San Diego - 4 year deal with a team option
  15. I'm trying to imagine the series of events that would lead to Torii Hunter starting the 2015 All-Star game in CF. It would have to be a "Mr. Burns' Softball Team" - level meltdown. Mike Trout is stranded on a boat - he was trying to catch a Marlin, but the fish pulled the boat into open waters, Adam Jones is stuck in a phonebooth like Tippi Hedren in "The Birds," George Springer is trapped in a human sized game of Mousetrap, . . . All the way down to Coco Crisp going literally cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.
  16. Our old friend Alexi Casilla is generating some interest from the Rays on a minor league deal, could sign with them soon . . .
  17. Just bumping this up again as Spring Training is starting up around the league. Aaron Hicks has been working with Rod Carew, Torii generated some goodwill at TwinsFest, who knows if either will be playing in CF any time soon for the Twins?
  18. Phillies signed Chad Billingsley on a one year deal - $1.5MM base salary with lots of incentives that could mean an additional $6.5MM
  19. Oh and the Washington Nationals have inked Casey Janssen to 1 year deal with a mutual option to join the Nats' bullpen.
  20. White Sox just made a pair of moves - they are reuniting with inf. Gordon Beckham and have designated outfielder Dayan Viciedo for assignment. They had seemingly been trying to trade Viciedo for the last year or so (though it was more overt in the offseason). Still a chance they can get a little something back for him now.
  21. defense only - he's considered to be one of the best CF'ers in baseball defensively. His offense, not so much.
  22. Yeah - that's true. I mentioned him just because he was rumored to be available and hasn't been traded yet. There aren't really many guys left in that category, so if the Twins were targeting a CF it would probably have to be a guy that hasn't been mentioned yet in rumors. How about Juan Lagares, Carlos Gomez, Mike Trout, Adam Jones, or Andrew McCutchen? They would be pretty decent upgrades... har-dee-har-har.
  23. Some recent moves that are now "official": Pirates and Orioles agree on a deal sending Travis Snider to Baltimore (more competition for Parmelee) The Marlins Agree to a 1 year deal with Ichiro The Red Sox and the Rangers traded pitchers; the Sox get lefty Robbie Ross, Jr and the Rangers acquire righty Anthony Ranaudo - both are 25 years old, though Ross has a few seasons of MLB service time already and Ranaudo debuted in 2014.
  24. I wonder if there was ever mutual interest between the Twins and Cardinals regarding Peter Bourjos or if it was all in our heads that such a trade would make sense for both teams. It's hard to say who is still out there at this point - Victorino perhaps, Charlie Blackmon perhaps, I guess for the right offer just about anyone could be acquired, though I wouldn't hold my breath for Juan Lagares, Andrew McCutcheon, or Adam Jones to name a few....
  25. I think this is probably one of the better situations for Parmelee to find himself. There's still a bit of a question mark about Chris Davis (he might DH anyway). Steve Pearce was great last year, but was it a mirage? Plus, the O's lost 2 pretty good bats from their outfield, it could be a good fit for Parmelee to work in a platoon of sorts, even though he has a reverse split (hitting lefties better recently).
