  1. They are fixed, and they were nice. Well done. Although Kristen Stewart scared me more than once.
  2. http://www.startribune.com/local/146156485.html Careful if you only have 30 free articles to read... but Target Field is now smoke free. All of Target Field. The plaza, the sidewalks surrounding it, everywhere. I don't smoke- and don't enjoy the smell- but I think this is ridiculous. Especially when chewing tobacco will still be allowed on the field. The only positive: if they bring back the recording of Bob Casey's famous call before every Metrodome home game.
  3. It's the kind of story every parent should read... and yet shouldn't read. We all have that thought that "anything could happen" but to keep ourselves sane, we try and block it. Marquis has baseball and a season with a new team relying on him to eat up innings to distract him, but it's truly inspirational to hear stories of athletes and their teams remembering that family comes first and foremost.
  4. I'm not sure... the videos are "Private" so I can't watch them. I was an optimist... but I guess now I'm a pessimist.
  5. Gardenhire is calling Plouffe his "super utility guy" and that just, to me, makes it sounds like Trevor is going to be coming off the bench more than Doumit.
  6. And as it always is, my resolution to "just bring an empty water ball to the game to save soem money" has turned into "well I have to have a hot dog and beer" to now "well fine, guess I'll have to try the new beers and food and what deep fried pickles and they added bacon to sloppy joes well here's my credit card just give me one of everything!"
  7. So Gameday says "In play, run(s)" on Capps getting Carlos Pena to fly out to end the ninth... I really hope these bugs are fixed by the end of spring training... if they're trying to get me to spend money on MLB.tv, I would, if they wouldn't blackout Twins' games!
  8. Liriano needs to stop walking the leadoff hitter...
  9. I'd like for him to throw every player under-the-bus when they make a mistake, not just the ones that are either rookies or not one of his boys. It seemed like- if you listened to soundbytes of him complaining about the players he had- 2011 was all Danny Valencia's fault. I can't recall him saying anything about the $180-million catcher not being able to catch, or the other 3 catchers not even hitting their weights. Pavano didn't get mentioned once for having an ERA north of 5; and Nathan and Capps were both "getting at it." But Valencia's slow-footed-to-the-right range most have cost us 30 wins last year.
  10. Padilla left the game after 1 2/3 inning? Any reason or update?
  11. I predict Mauer will play zero games in right field. Zero. We have six players that can play the outfield. Last year, Mauer started in right because there was no one else who could. Mauer will not be needed in the outfield; if he's not catching, DHing, or manning first, he'll actually sit. What I do hope Gardenhire has learned from TK is: don't sit Mauer at home. If he's not going to catch a day-game after a night-game, put him at first or DH. He's the "hometown boy;" the fans are basically the ones paying his salary, he's the one all the kids and girls want to see play, so play him. TK has said he would never sit Kirby at home; he'd wait until they were on the road. (Which might explain why the Twins' home record in the 'Dome is so very, very good.)
  12. 60% of the time, it works everytime.

    Jamie Moyer

We should all wish to be so lucky when we're closing in on the half-century mark. I'll be happy just to be playing first base for a church softball league when I'm that old.
  14. Halfway through the 2002 American League Championship 10-Tear anniversary celebration, Doug Mientkovich will interrupt, remind everyone that he won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2003, and leave. Koskie will declare the celebration "stupid" and TC will have to fill the 20 minutes remaining in the celebration before first pitch by dancing to several generic Latin-beats songs that had been queued up for Christian Guzman and Luis Rivas (their old walk-up-to-the-batter's-box songs.)
  15. I would say that the biggest advantage to having a third catcher is it gives flexibility to get Doumit in the lineup more often. I would rather see Doumit getting extra at-bats then Burroughs. Luke Hughes can play third, Casilla (and, in a pinch, Plouffe) can play short, and it seems everyone can fill in at third. I'm for the extra catcher... or, I should say, I'm for Towles as the third catcher. A bat off the bench with some hope for some pop.
  16. There goes Maloney's perfect spring. Cut 'em! (Sarcasm font needed.)
  17. If Revere is going to stay on the 25-man roster, it's going to be because of his speed and glove. Stealing second and then third (regardless of how) is only helping his cause. And working a walk to lead-off is not a bad step either.
  18. Looks like the Twins have to pay Zumaya the full amount anyway: http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Twins_on_the_hook_for_Joel_Zumayas_entire_850000_contract032812 Apparently he had to get cut before the injury (???) to only receive the $400k. So, if they had cut him after 12 pitches thrown in Spring Training, they could have saved that extra cash. Whoever put that stipulation in the contract deserves an award of some sort.
  19. Hopefully the offensive only improves on it's already decent spring training, because they're going to have to win a lot of 9-8 games... It's also a good thing the bullpen will have Duensing and Swarzak, two pitchers who can pitch 3-4 innings every couple of days.
  20. Revere is really making it hard to put him in a reserve role. Beat out another infield single. His ability to battle his tail off has to be eating at Gardy...
  21. It looks like the chances are pretty good right now...
  22. Joe Nathan's reaction after Cabrera catches Ordonez's line-drive and doubles-off Jackson on first. Actually, I'll add Cuddyer's fistbump, Cabrera's excited leap, and Cabrera/Nathan's dugout celebration after that, too. Even Mauer pumped his fist after that play.
  23. It was a week ago when Span was sitting out with neck stiffness. He wasn't sure if it was contributing to the occassional headache, or if he was still having residual effects from the concussion. He had said it was nothing he was worried about, but I think Span will sit more in the first weeks of the season to make sure...
  24. No word really on Luke Hughes. It seems to be accepted that he makes the squad as the utility man... but why not starting at second, with Alexi the utility man? Casilla seems to be the more-prototypical utility man: plays more positions; fast for pinch-running; and in the past he has excelled when NOT handed a starting position. And if Parmelee is the starting outfielder, and Revere is your number 4, where does that leave Plouffe?
  25. Revere is going to be kept to spell Span once or twice a week. It's my understanding that Span is still complaining of headaches, whether they stem from last season's concussion or are related to his previous vertigo maladies... I think Revere's strength will come in late-inning defensive replacement and pinch-running.
