  1. Gardy has said he is very big on keeping Doumit's bat in the lineup daily. And they're paying him to do just that. I think Parmalee is going to see more time in the outfield over Plouffe or Revere, and Morneau/Doumit/Mauer are going to rotate through first base/DH/catcher (minus Morneau there.) In any case, a bench of Plouffe, Hughes, Revere, Doumit, and Parmalee (however it works out) has to be one of the Twins' best benches since Bush/Larkin/Newman...
  2. Bert Blyleven is the only one who loves farts.
  3. Why isn't a move from batting clean-up being discussed? Morneau should be batting 6th or 7th, behind Willingham and Valencia (and possibly Doumit.) Moreso because it is a less-stressful position in the batting order. He can still make an impact at 6th, but he won't feel the pressure to park one every at-bat.
  4. Greg Gagne. Only player to share a name with a former professional wrestler (albeit a different pronunciation.)
  5. Sounds like Ryan and Gardenhire are trying to find some decent trade-bait to get Punto back.
  6. That's gotta be disheartening for Morneau... he pops out to second with two runners on, and Parmalee saves him two-batters later with a monster blast to right...
  7. So why did he wait? Twins didn't have a 22 since Gomez, and he left before 2010.
  8. When did this happen? Not that I'm upset or anything. In fact, I'm kind of glad. My wife got a #22 jersey for free- one of the white throwbacks from the last year in the Metrodome- and hasn't had a player to wear it for. And she likes Danny V, so it works out. I'm just curious if there was any reasoning behind it. Darin Mastroianni is the new #19... that wasn't part of his signing bonus (the right to wear that number) was it?
  9. Joe Benson got the message, Jim Crikket.
  10. I following the game on here and MLB Gameday, which doesn't have pitch types or locations yet. Revere/Mauer/Morneau all hit the ball down the left-field line. Is Hughes hitting the outside corner that well, or are they that far behind consistently on his fastballs?
  11. Probably. That sounds right. I didn't think it was, what with the Chris Matthews' show of the same name.
  12. This should be the starting-lineup for the Twins in 2012 against right-handed pitchers. (I would hope, against lefties, we'll see more of Plouffe over Revere, and Gardy should not be afraid to swap Morneau and Willingham like T.K. would do with Hrbek against lefties in the late-80s/early-90s.) I'm really hoping for a successful offensive showing against the Yankees today.
  13. Probably doesn't count, but does anyone remember the Fox sitcom about baseball starring Joe Rogan, Mike Starr, and the police chief from "Law and Order: SVU?" It wasn't a movie, but the fact that 6 episodes of it aired should count towards something. It was basically a sitcom version of "Major League" that wasn't funny and rarely showed any actual baseball being played. And I'm trying to remember the name without Googling it.
  14. I really hope Glen Perkins can repeat what Glen Perkins did last year... his spring training thus far is looking very good.
  15. The season opener in 1987 had that feeling that it was going to be a special year. Puckett went deep in the early innings, and then in extras he pulled back a homerun to keep the game tied. He had so many great moments in 1987. One that hasn't been mentioned was towards the end of the regular season. Listening to the last home game of the year- Fan Appreciation Day- in 1987 on the radio in the garage with my dad (he was working on something, I was shootin' hoops.) Twins needed a win to insure a tie in the AL West, and- with 6 away games to finish the season- they were going to need this win. After Blyleven got out of a jam- thanks to a rare 5-4-2 double-play by Gaetti/Newman/Laudner- Puckett/Gaetti/and Hrbek all went long in the bottom of the first. Those were my three guys from '87 to '90, and it was awesome.
  16. If Luke Hughes makes the team as a utility man, he'll be third in line (after Mornuea and Mauer) anyway to play first. And if Morneau goes on the DL Parmalee will be on the first plane/train/automobile to the big leagues. So I don't think Doumit is going to see much time at first outside of maybe some interleague play.
  17. I'll see your Matt Tolbert Target-Field homerun and raise you an Alexi Casilla... http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10454727&c_id=mlb
  18. When is Thome going to see some first base action in Spring Training? Is that still part of the plan for them in Philly? At least until Ryan Howard returns?
  19. Hey, if you ignore the love-story between Kevin Costner and Kelly Preston, the baseball scenes are pretty good. And the other love story- between Kevin Costner the pitcher and John C. Reily, his aging but personal catcher- is very touching and realistic, too. And it is the Yankees he is pitching a perfect game against, so it can't be that bad. Really, it's like a "life flashing before your eyes" as a once-great pitcher's baseball career is about to die. It's not a bad movie... again, if you're able to skip most of the relationship scenes.
  20. Loved the games, although I hate trying to spell "Doug Mientkiewicz" in any timed-game.
  21. Just curious, but I've seen most of the Twins' games the last two years... how many balls have actually hit off of the overhang. I'm having a hard time picturing any. I've seen some bounce weird off of the railing- that had to be challenged to be ruled a homerun- and Thome had that one that hit the corner of the out-of-town scoreboard for a triple... but I can't recall seeing a ball hit off that hard, limestone overhang. Not saying it can't and won't- too many seasons watching balls do weird things in the Metrodome to not believe anything- but I don't think the overhang is going to play into the game as much as everyone else does. It doesn't matter your level of right-field expertise: if you're going back on a ball, you're going to keep going back in case it flies just under that overhang. And if it bounces off the overhang, then that is what back-up in the form of centerfield or a second-basemen- coming out for the relay- is for.
  22. Local games are blacked out, and it goes by your I.P. address. You get the full game an hour or so after last pitch... I, too, would drop the $100 for it, but not if I can't watch them live. I don't know if FSN is to blame, or the local cable providers like Comcast/Xfinity (who I generally blame everything on anyway.)
  23. Revere played in LF in Target Field towards the end of last season, too. And he made some great catches in the gap and running towards the line. But if his bat isn't there, I think his most valuable place is on the bench as a late-inning defensive replacement for Plouffe or Willingham (with Span or Plouffe switching to right) or pinch runner.
