  1. (And yes, I know Burroughs is also a 3rd baseman and Parmelee can play RF...)
  2. So on the Twins' bench tonight we're going to have Morneau, Parmelee, and Burroughs... three left-hand-hitting first basemen... That doesn't give Gardenhire a lot of wiggle-room!
  3. And Pavano literally could not have coughed that lead up any faster.
  4. Four two-out hits by the Twins: double by Mauer, RBI single for Willingham, single for Morneau, and RBI single for Doumit. Nice hitting by the guys who are supposed to supply it.
  5. Well, it has happened to the Twins at least once since 2005. July 6th, 2007: Mike Redmond was catching, Joe Mauer was the DH, and Matt Garza was pitching. Jim Thome swung so hard, he ended up hitting and cutting Redmond's hand on the backswing. Mauer had to suit-up, and Garza had to bat in the eighth spot. On July 7th, 2007, the sun rised, the birds whistled, the Twins and White Sox played another game, and life on Earth continued unabated. So you can see why the possibility of pulling a catcher due to injury- with your other catcher as the team's DH- would worry Gardenhire so.
  6. Mauer better pull everything tonight, and keep it off the left-field line: Phil Cuzzi is the third-base umpire tonight.
  7. Either Hendricks goes to Triple A or Burnett... so I think we're all in agreement that Swarzak should struggle just enough tonight to make sure Hendricks stays up, and Burnett goes down.
  8. There's a ramp (or two or three) near the corner of 4th and Marquette. $5-$7 ($10 for a weekday game.) Right past Nicollet, so easy access to the skyway if cold. And avoid a lot of traffic after the games.
  9. Maybe one of him in a duck blind with a rifle, ala his adventure before Game 7 in '87?
  10. There's the leap at first in Game 7 of the '87 series... The grand slam in game 6... The Ron Gant T-Rex tag in Game 2 of the 1991 series... Is there anything else it could be? I know there is a video of him at the '87 Series doing the Baron von Raschke claw taunt and saying, "This is where we want it to be, and that is all you need to know." But I don't know who- besides myself and other fans of the old AWA promotion- would appreciate that.
  11. Hunter's single should have been a double play. A crappy play/circumstance like that- hitting the second base bag- isn't Capps' fault. Pujols and Trumbo's hits... yeah, that's on Capps.
  12. Three homeruns for the Twins today... that hasn't happened in awhile. I hope it happens more.
  13. Number 4 for Willingham???
  14. I actually thought the game was later than it is (6th inning only.) I don't think Revere vs. lefty is more likely to get on base over Plouffe, but the fact it is only the 6th negates my comment. Carry on.
  15. Why not pinch hit Plouffe for Revere with a lefty coming in late in the game? Or Hughes for Casilla? We need offense right now, and might have to sacrifice defense for it.
  16. MLB Gameday's Scouting Report: "Alex Burnett is trying to jam Izturis inside where he is batting .000 compared to .000 on the season." Thanks, Gameday Scout!
  17. Are the boo-birds out at Target Field after that inning?
  18. Infield f'n fly, Mauer?!? With the bases loaded and one out?!? And Morneau ends the inning with a flyout to right. Bases loaded with one out and no runs with our 3rd and 4th batters up... *shaking my head*
  19. I did not get to see any of the games against Baltimore, but twice against the Angels Doumit has hit screamers up the middle that only a diving grab by Aybar and a quick glove by Weaver prevented them from being hits.
  20. Mauer must be aware that every single scouting report on him states: "Will take the first pitch looking 99.9% of the time... will take second pitch 75% of the time..." He needs to, every once in awhile, swing at the first pitch. They are down the heart of the plate without fail. And if he does, maybe he'll start getting some balls thrown to him that first pitch.
  21. Well, Revere ended up pinch-running for Parmelee in the ninth. Had the Twins scored and gone to the bottom of the ninth, Hughes would have come in for Revere and played first... right? (Unless Gardy was going to move Revere to right and Doumit in to play first...)
  22. Good for Drew. He should be motivated to show the Twins he can improve his bat. I don't want him called up, but I'll admire that he went up to bat in Triple A after two seasons in the bigs and is doing what he can to try and make it back up.
  23. I hate having to cheer for the Red Sox... but to see them get some runs off of Valverde in the bottom of the 9th was fun. And now Lil' Nicky Punto is in the game at third for the BoSox!
  24. At least right field in Target Field is relatively small. Doumit won't need the speed for coverage that Willingham is going to have to miraculously produce at home.
  25. If Mauer has more issues this year with his legs and seeing time behind the plate, do you think the chants will be: "You're out of your ******* element, Mauer!"
