  1. Since July of last year I haven't bought tickets to any Twins games. I have gone to a couple, when the tickets were free. When watching from home I've been tending to flip the channel after the 3rd inning (usually because the Twins are down by several runs). I still consider myself a fan, but I've got no reason to dedicate time and money to a product that I don't feel is worth it. I'd say I'm a bandwagon fan, and I don't think anybody should be sorry for jumping off recently.
  2. Provus is vanilla. I can't complain but I don't sense him adding anything to the conversation. He's better than Kris Atteberry was, who I thought got way too nostalgic and poetic in his play-by-play. I like that Gladden is more free with his comments on the team than some other Twins broadcasters, but his play-by-play is bad. He'll say something like "a fastball outside" and then five seconds later add "called a strike". All he needs to do is wait for the umpire's call. His game-calling is completely incomprehensible at times.
  3. Pitchers are half of your team. The Twins shouldn't be afraid to draft a good one.
  4. 1. Rangers 2. Tigers 3. Yankees 4. Angels 5. Rays 6. Red Sox 7. Blue Jays 8. Indians 9. A's 10. Orioles 11. White Sox 12. Mariners 13. Twins 14. Royals
  5. And that's where I'm disagreeing with you. It IS partially the front office's fault that the pitching is bad. Even with Baker healthy this was a dangerously thin rotation, and the bullpen has been rebuilt for the second year in a row on the cheap. You might not blame my boss if I do a horrible job, but you could blame my boss for hiring me to do something I'm not good at or unqualified for, and then continuing to put me in that position. It's not just about what they didn't do in the last offseason. Since Santana was traded this team has not done enough to strengthen their pitching staff.
  6. I can't blame the Twins on this one. We all get tired of hearing the Twins preach "make contact and go the other way". It's not a one-size-fits-all approach, but the idea is to cut down on strikeouts and popups, which Valencia is having big trouble with.
  7. Ryan assembled that pitching staff.
  8. If Cappsie is hurt, he won't say so. That's what Gardy loves about him, even if it means bad results.
  9. It was actually an 8-year run.
  10. My displeasure for Gardy's management increases with every game that Clete Thomas is in the starting lineup.
  11. Now I'll be the first to agree that Rick Anderson has gotten some undeserved accolades in this market. But Liriano is terrible, and at this point I'm not afraid of him coming back strong with another organization. I don't believe any pitching coach is going to fix him because every time he hits some minor difficulty he turns into a wriggling, spineless mass on the mound.
  12. A couple of bad decisions by Span cost the Twins 2 runs.
  13. The Twins have far too many players on the fringe of their 25 man roster that are out of options. Something had to give. I'm not a big Luke Hughes fan but I wonder if they would have been better off cutting loose a reliever.
  14. The Twins should have been scouring the waiver wire earlier. Even with their original projected rotation completely healthy they were extremely thin. And maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I'm through crossing my fingers for Liriano. He's done.
  15. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if every single number in that USA Today article was fudged. The Twins saw the fans start to leave Target Field late last year, and the decrease in payroll reflects an expectation of fewer tickets sold. If the Twins expected to have packed houses for every game in 2012, the payroll would have stayed close to where it was in 2011.
  16. I believe the Twins WILL pick up Baker's option. It's a lot of money, but they're not going to sign any better starters, particularly not on 1-year deals.
  17. I get that you don't want a lefty coming out of the bullpen late to face both Mauer and Morneau, but I don't think this switch is going to make much difference. The pitching is still the same.
  18. I could have sworn we were told he was in perfect health in Spring Training. So here's the chicken-and-egg problem: is Mauer not hitting because he doesn't feel right? Or are we getting these comments because he's not hitting?
  19. Morneau seems to be having a lot of trouble with fastballs up-and-away, pitches that he used to feast on.
  20. It's fine, Revere was in a bad position up here as mostly a backup RF, his worst spot defensively.
  21. For years the Twins had favored gap-to-gap type hitters because that approach played well at the Metrodome. Cuddyer and Kubel were two of the most vocal in their dislike for hitting at Target Field, but with them gone, the Twins can refocus on hitters that play well at the new park.
  22. Ben Revere? It won't matter who pitches now that the Dragon is awake.
  23. Nice to see the Dragon wake up, but hopefully they won't need that many runs every game.
  24. Mauer now has 2 more HRs at Target Field than Bigfoot.
  25. Liriano has gone from inconsistent to consistently bad.
